The title says it all, why did you choose your username/nick? What does it mean to you?

Maybe this post has been made in some period of time.. But this is for the new and oldie users as well, for everyone!

I start, my nick is because I am a nostalgic fellow, I like to remember the good ol' times lol. What 'bout yall partners?

There's a Tangerine Dream song called "Wahn". Sounds like a horror movie soundtrack. The word is supposed to translate as "delusion" or "mania". I think I read somewhere that they meant it to mean "drunken delirium", though I can't remember whether that's true anymore. A native German speaker could chip in and say whether that would even make sense. Anyway, I just though it looked and sounded cool and I didn't mind any of the possible meanings either. The "mirroring" is due to the fact that someone had already registered as "Wahn", but I don't think that person has ever posted here.

Yeah, while Im working I was listening to that song! Is like a drunken acid trip that starts with paranoia but the effect ends calmly and relaxing, if you look close the mirroring makes the name more according to the song too isn't it?

I was taking an astronomy class in college, was reading a section in the textbook about the lithosphere of the earth, which very loosely you could call a collection of earth's rock. I was mainly into rock (and metal) and jazz at the time, tried adding the latter into the word, and it just felt apropos of my tastes at the time (and 1.5+ decades later it still essentially is).

I thought you might have worked in the printing industry, lithography, lol.

Mine is self explanatory, I'm old and a metal head. :)

Mine is a misspelling of the band Svartarid, (I heard the name from a guy through a crappy phone line and misheard what he said), the day before I registered and thought it sounded cool back then. Now, not so much, but hey, I was 13 when I made this account back in 2006.

That's brutal at cosmic scales!

My real name isn't Slater, but I've always found that name cool-sounding, so I decided to go with it as my pseudonym.

"MDL" is an acronym for "Monstro do Lago", which means "Lake Monster" in Portuguese. I've been using this pseudonym since, as far as I can remember, 2008, when I was just a child wandering around some websites about cryptozoology and paranormal stuff. As you can probably notice, it is a reference to the Loch Ness Monster. Since then, I've been using that name, mainly in Portuguese, with some variations and the one I'm using at the moment is one of them!
When I started browsing MA, I've used "MDL666", but I decided to have my name changed, eventually. Mostly because I've grew out of that edgy wannabe-satanist/trve kvlt phase.

I used to be obsessed with the mythos of Nessie when I was younger. Did a lengthy research paper on the legend of it and all. I had this weird idea that I would find her by going to the Loch in the middle of the night on a large boat with a grand piano on it, I would play Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata", and she would come.

uh I guess mine is somewhat self-explanatory (though I haven't gone too WMD-level with my post lengths here that much, even though one or two Dream Theater discussions tempted me)

More specifically, I've always had a tendency to write massive in-depth posts on the internets which I'm painfully aware of, though I've chilled a bit with age. Also, it's inspired by a nickname I saw in Team Fortress 2 once which made me rotfl, which was Death By Dispenser. This just came to my mind some time ago and I started using it.

Lol, I used to play a lot with the Heavy, being accompained with a Medic guaranteed an easy killing spree tank-win, since years I don't play TF2..

Don't forget that if you got killed by a dispenser is because THE DISPENSER IS A SPYYYYYYY!! :P

My real nickname is Oz / Ozzy, the "apu" part is poorly aged addition to usernames I used in middle school (advice from a friend back then since I'm Pakistani). I've never even watched more than a handful of Simpsons episodes (and that one 2000s movie only cause I went with a group). I'm considering asking one of the admins to drop the "apu".

Back when I registered myself on this board I was listening to lots of Martial Industrial (which I still listen to, btw) and there was a Wafferuhe/Legionarii split release called Unity. There was also an Arditi release called Unity Of Blood. My nickname is also reference to a Borussia Dortmund ultra group called TheUnity (I'm a BVB fan).

Gomorro was actully a short period nickname friends gave to me... To get in context the year was 2006 and at that time there was a common pun that related troyan virus with low budget porn set in ancient cultures like the greeks, romans and so on.
So one friday I was drinking after school with these friends and went to my house to pick up some money. So I went to my room and they waited for me at the living room and one of them looking at the DVD collection I had, picked the case of Monty Python's Life of Brian
They started to joke around that the DVD was actually my father's Troyan Porn and that he downloaded from Ares under the user name Gomorro... Then for a while they called me Gomorro every time we talked about porn, so when I got to create my user name... It felt right

Mine dates back to around 2001/2002. I was a big Korn fan at the time, and someone at school said that Jonathan Davis' facial hair made him look like a catfish. He used to draw pictures of catfish on my work planner etc (all in good humour). Not sure where the 'lord' part comes from, I probably just added it randomly and it stuck.

It's my mother's maiden name with "Lord" included. I could get Stenhammar as my surname if I wanted. Maybe some day I will. It's not that uncommon in Finland to have a Swedish surname. I think it sounds kind of old and cool. And "Lord"? Well, I am the lord of NOTHING.

I had no idea you were still around here!

My name came from an idea I got while reading something in a mens magazine. FHM for those who might remember it. I was getting into online poker at the time, and the article suggested that if you used a female pseudonym, players will think you're a novice because of the perception that women couldn't compete against men. It actually worked, so there might be something to it. I used this name on a few different forums back in the day, and this one just kinda stuck.

Our biggest rivals have always been Schalke 04 (for geographical reasons), but in the 90's we developed a rivalry with Bayern for competitive reasons (even though they helped us when we were in economic trouble). There's also a less important rivalry with Borussia Monchengladbach simply because they are also called Borussia.

well, sort of. at least in terms of current bundesliga competition.
the true enemy at heart though is schalke 04 (who have now been relegated to the 2nd bundesliga though).

edit: unity beat me to it.

I used to use a lot of feminine aliases back when I was into online gaming, or female characters in fighting video games. In my limited readings in more recent years it's rather complex psychologically and probably understudied, though I wasn't thinking explicitly in strategic terms so much then.

Came from Candlemass and their first album. It really helped form my tastes in metal, and I'm pretty sure I was listening to it at the time while creating this account.

Dead Kid is a nickname bestowed upon me in high school due to the complexion of my skin resembling a corpse or vampire somewhat. I wasn't the most pale around but dermatitis started causing it to dry out and flake off a lot. I also used it as the first two words of the name of my horrible noise project as it seemed suitable.

A derivative of my name, Jimmie. Actually, my ex-wife started calling me Jimbies almost two decades ago, so that's how it was born.

There's an indie horror flick from the early 00s, Kolobos, that is somewhere between self-aware slasher and proto-Saw, with one particularly brutal kill (of several) coming from the killer rigging a shower head to dispense hydrochloric acid instead of water. It seemed like a solid name for a death metal project that a friend and I were working on (that never came to fruition), so I used it here.

Oh, about the nickname... I wanted to sign up as "själ" (which means "soul" in Swedish), but the MA registration system (just as registration systems on many other websites, I guess) was not 'friendly' to certain non-English letters (Edit: or maybe I just presumed that the non-English letters were not allowed for registration on MA because I had previously unsuccessfully tried to register under this nickname on some other ''international'' website... when I thought about it more carefully, I realized that I'm actually not sure if I remember it correctly).
Anyway, it made me sad, but I needed to come up with some other nickname. I checked out what "sjal" means at random (it's "shawl") and I kind of liked it (I like to be wearing a shawl, especially its warmer variety, - wrapping yourself up in this kind of clothing is very comfortable for both walking outside in cold weather and sitting inside a house when there is not warm enough in a room), so I decided to use this 'nickname' for signing up here on MA.

Spoiler: show
I also had a second account on MA (where the nickname was just a softer form of my real name), but I deleted it because it reminded me of some very sad periods of my real life.
(And I also had an account with some "April Fools' joke" nickname (and I'm very sorry about that) *shame*, but I soon deleted it for obvious reasons).

I just took the surname of someone who I was around a lot through work during the time I started using this name online. We were just co-workers during a really short period in time (not friends beyond work or anything like that). I took the name since my previous name was very much connected with my real person as well as it being a short for a username I came up with when I was quite young which simply didnt fit anymore. So I took Innes and stylized it to InnesI.

It is only in later years someone said they thought about tropical fish when seeing my nick (paracheirodon innesi - neon tetra). There are several other species with the word innesi in their latin names as well. There is also a musical project called Innesi by Isabelle Erkendal och Sami Sirviö (from Kent). None of these had any impact on me choosing the name. It was pretty much something random which I could fill with whatever I wished at the time.

There is only one forum I used to actively frequent that I did not use this on, otherwise I have always been 'Luvers". I have read people several times over the years trying to pronounce the word. Some have tried to call it Lovers, while others have called it LOOvers, trying to make sense of the U instead of the O, when in reality it is neither.

The word would be pronounced like (swer-u-val), as if you were trying to blend the words "Swerve" and "Oval" at the same time. It is an English transliteration of a word in Aramaic (that is a story in itself) which means To be without love or Absence of intense devotion or attachment.

Perhaps a bit dramatic, albeit hidden to strictly English speakers, but I do not believe any word is more befitting of myself than the one I have always used.
