To each his own I guess - Skold is one of my favourite artists. I love his solo work and what he did with KMFDM and Manson. Haven't heard Shotgun Messiah though.

Was Insomnium the first band ever to introduce the doomy Gothenburg Melodeath subgenre we all now know?

They're not Gothenburg. That sound to me is distinctly Finnish. Amorphis, Rapture and others were already doing different formulations of it earlier. Or even in Sweden, there's stuff like Godgory, Internal Decay, Moaning Wind, and Infernal Gates. Insomnium is definitely the flagship band for their slant on it in the last couple decades though.

Absolutely. 49 years is way too young. He was great with Turbonegro.

This made the news in Australia. Pretty crazy. And don't worry, the "leaders" here are likely more moronic.

Went to the Eyehategod/Napalm Death/Gwar show last night. Mike IX Williams can fuck right off. Asks his fans to fund his liver transplant and then goes right back to drugs and booze. At the end of the set he asked the audience to bring him drugs. Later he's stumbling around the venue clearly drunk off his ass and not wearing a mask even though they're required here. What a piece of shit.

Certified "noice" moment! I have a relative of that age, whom I see once every year or so, who is a passionate metalhead. Although he caters more towards heavy/doom and epic metal I love discussing music with him. Or as my mother always says when she hears us "oh you talking about all these completely unknown bands again?"

Sounds like he’s taking “not selling out” the wrong way. I would certainly hate to see that, if I were waiting, desperate, for a liver transplant.

I just got home from seeing Blood Incantation and Primitive Man.

Primitive Man was ridiculously heavy and they were quite entrancing to watch, but they played for an entire hour with zero pauses between songs, no stage banter, and minimal overall stage presence. By the end of their hour-long set I was bored. They seem like kinda a one-trick pony, I guess.

Blood Incantation, however, was fantastic. They were all super tight and they sounded even better than they do on their albums. Even with minimal banter and eye contact from the band, they still managed to be the most engaging death metal band I have seen live so far. If this tour is coming to a venue near you I cannot recommend going enough, even if it is just to see Blood Incantation.

I've seen both bands separately a few times and I agree on all counts. Primitive Man are stupidly heavy but the music just turns into a wall of noise after a few minutes in a live setting and they have zero presence. Blood Incantation are somehow perfect on stage, despite their insanely technical and demanding music. I saw them play a small club show in 2016 and it was clear they were headed for greatness; awesome to see them on top of the world right now.

Primitive Man played a 35 minute set with six tracks from the Caustic album when I saw them back in 2018. That's probably the ideal time for them, though I was still kinda pissed that I spent more time driving in one direction than I did at the venue. Spectral Voice was a supporting act though so I really wanted to go.

Aren't those just the 1998 enhanced editions? I have a few of them.

Is anyone experiencing slowdowns with Discogs? Like, massive slowdowns rendering the site nearly useless. Recent problem since a few days ago. Using the latest Firefox update on Windows 10.

*boring complaining about black metal-related journalism*
I've been reading interviews (both old and relatively new) with members of Bethlehem and found this one:
http://www.reshimotohu.com/the-aversion ... inear-life
it is very good and helpful when there are detailed interviews like these, and it was informative and interesting to read the questions and the answers, but that typo in the caption under the second photo from the top is painful to watch. Black metal is a very diverse genre musically and lyrically and there are many subgenres and specific terminology so it's just easy to get confused about/with it, but in certain cases you should be really careful in using the terminology and this kind of abbreviation, not to mention that the interview was related to Tel Aviv

to be honest my fave period regarding Primitive Man was before they got Caustic out. Music was more interesting, angry and dynamic. When they really went all in with the oppressive bleakness I kinda lost interest.

Got another angry email about my Iron Maiden review today! I'm more suprised to see it than anything else because I'm pretty sure my email isn't public on here or the main site. Time to double check my setting settings again it seems.

I'm really tempted to switch off Firefox. I get no end of crashes and weird bugs and I don't think it's actually any quicker for me than Chrome was. It's such a pile of garbage, I totally understand why so many people are switching to alternatives. I'm thinking of switching back to Chrome or something. Anyone have any suggestions?

Chrome is apparently planning to make the usage of ad-blocking extensions harder. If you're using anything like that, I'd recommend against switching to Chrome.

I don't know, I have some weird prejudice against Chrome and am generally happy with Firefox. It's only Discogs that's giving me trouble and I suspect it's the site rather than my browser or the overall configuration.

Come on, Chrome! I've been using you for years, and now you want me to destroy the adblockers that have saved me from bugginess due to the ads that plague the sites? Guess I'm gonna have to switch to Firefox if they go through this plan.
