watch this video. i had no idea rap/rock still existed.

Hot take: I wish rap rock came back.

However, that comes with a massive throbbing caveat: it has to predominantly follow Rage Against the Machine's first two albums, which is to say "be more funkified Black Sabbath-meets-Wu Tang Clan," like if Robin Trower and Led Zeppelin crossed paths with the Sugarhill Gang and Run DMC. The shitty chug-fest combined with pseudo-tough guy angst that dominated rap rock ever since Biohazard (a band I don't even think is that bad) and especially Limp Bizkit (the musical equivalent of a bacteriophage) can get fuckslapped. I have NO Earthly idea why rap-rock, rap metal, and rapcore had to so totally go in that direction after around '95. Nü metal alone can't explain it because that trend largely died off after 2003 and yet every band that attempted rap rock afterwards still followed the exact same pattern of being pained, angsty, filled with inner demons that the singer needs to scream and rap away, with the guitarist being considered daring if they do anything other than chug or, in the rare case of a solo, use any other pedal beside the wah-wah.
I'm not saying rap metal would've ever reached the heights of other genres if it had stuck with early RATM, Faith No More, the bits of Anthrax, the better parts of Biohazard, and whomever else played that style. But at least they had more going on. Even the first Limp Bizkit album, in spite of the songwriting, felt like it was trying something different at the very least.

Why?

So in other words my wish is more that I want rap rock to redeem itself.

Edit:
This isn't what I mean

Every single thing about that band, song, and video was ill-advised. Bonus points for finding an actual dashcam car wreck video and putting it in their stupid music video for their stupid song.

Also, this comment wins:

I just burned me and my ex wifes wedding pictures to this song. Only took a year and a half to get to that point.

You thought Five Finger Death Punch was bad? Well, former drummer Jeremy Spencer has created his own band, Pyschosexual. It's even more unlistenable, and with the costumes and lyrics he is trying way too hard to be edgy.

So I found out recently that Mike Orlando of Adrenaline Mob has a project with Ailyn, formerly of Sirenia, on vocals. I'm a big fan of both of them individually, but I didn't actually listen to a song from the album until now and I am very thoroughly unimpressed.

Just about everything about this is sonically unpleasing. I pretty much died of laughter when the fast part started and Ailyn tried so very hard to sound gruff, and so spectacularly failed. What an incredibly funny song for all the wrong reasons.

I've unfortunately heard this band. And yeah, it's supremely awful. I think it's supposed to be the soundtrack to a horror porno series or something that Spencer created.

I listened to that whole thing. It was so exquisitely stupid.

Doing a cover of a pop song, and just adding harsh vocals, or blast beats, is fucking annoying and stupid. The musicians who do such things are usually just “black/death metal 101.” I don’t really care for Thou, but their Nirvana covers are good. Chained to the bottom of the ocean’s cover of “I will possess your heart” is actually well constructed, despite being way different. Even Celtic Frost’s non-metal covers are way better, because they don’t sound like some low effort trolling. Six feet under covering Thin Lizzy was better than that.

You two did better than me, then. I busted out laughing within the first two seconds and had to give up halfway through.

OMG. That's a new level of badness. I've heard low effort covers, but this... it just doesn't fit. It seems too close to the original that it's not a parody, but it also manages to ruin it in a way I didn't know was possible.

TBH I couldn't listen to it even halfway.

Caveat - Not necessarily the worst song I've ever heard, but since I laughed all the way through - from the Reagan quote at the start, to the chorus-mit-exploding-villages, to the general Team America vibe. I dub this FREEDOMCORE.

I lol'd at the dude's super weak attempts at singing in a higher register. That was some hilariously bad boomer rock.

Also, if that song merely amused you, I present to you something that's one step above freedomcore: AMERICAN RIGHT WING FREEDOMCORE.

One of my favorite stupid things in that video that I never noticed until now was during the photo montage of devastation (backed by lyrics about how "they" wanna take our guns away, the implication being that THIS is what you get when the GUVMINT has too much control), a photo of the fall of Berlin during WWII is shown. Something tells me that either 1. These dudes just wanted a photo of the Communist flag in there just to throw in how evil they think Communism is, completely unaware of the photo's context and origins, or 2. They're just Nazis that don't want to call themselves Nazis because calling yourself a Nazi wasn't in style when they made this video.

Oh, and if you can believe it, that's not actually their worst song. It's the worst of their originals, but the actual worst thing they've ever done was this ridiculous buttrock version of The Star Spangled Banner that they played at a NASCAR race many years ago. Watch throughout for the reactions from various drivers and military people in attendance.

I was curious so I looked up the bio of that band. The worst thing about them for me isn't just their lyrics- so they like guns, the military, and America; that's all fine with me. Or at least they claim to like America; one can only wonder where they stand on the recent attempt to overthrow our elected government???

But the worst thing for me is they're a manufactured band. According to their bio, they didn't form the band- some sleazy promoter/ right wing capitalist hired a bunch of random musicians, screened them for their background and military service, etc- and put the band together, Backstreet Boys/N'Sync style. And the music that resulted from this soulless prefab enterprise (because I can't really consider it a band) is about as interesting as that of the typical manufactured teen-pop boy band, too.
