Watching my son play Doom (2016) reminded me how much I fucking love the soundtrack of that game. So my girlfriend bought me the soundtrack for my birthday.

None of that soundtrack is really djent, though. I've listened to it hundreds of times and all it has in common with the djent subgenre is very downtuned guitars, which aren't even close to 15% of the soundtrack's sonic material. It's mostly mangled synth and sound design elements.

The original composer of the first Turok game uploaded the original unaltered score (I guess they were sized down to fit on the N64 game pak). It's really atmospheric and has always been underrated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mt4A0IhX5uU

I just recently blasted through another Nightmare campaign of Doom. The soundtrack's sort of weird in that I'd never feel like listening to it isolated from the game, but it somehow works great within the game. I also never thought of it as djent, but I guess I could see that? I dunno, I don't listen to any djent. Also since this was my third playthrough I found myself putting on metal records while playing most of the time.

It was also only on this runthrough that I discovered the glory of the Gauss Canon in siege mode. If you upgrade it so you can move while using it in siege mode and also have the Rich Get Richer rune active then you're basically blowing up demons with a mini BFG that doesn't run out of ammo. Barrels o' Fun!

The second that's released outside Youtube I'm getting a rip of that, fuck that sounds good

An orchestra plays the Xenogears soundtrack (not the full thing, sadly missing my two favourite pieces, but still a really really good performance). Many chills to be had. :)

(You can skip ahead at 7:55, or go to youtube for the tracklist breakdown with timestamps)

Of course! I love Wild ARMs, one of my favourite soundtracks ever.

As a fan of OSTs I'm starting to collect some of my favorites so far:

Spoiler: show

And these puppies on the way:

The Legend of Zelda, 25th Anniversary
Street Fighter IV
Age of Mythology

There're plenty more I want but are just way too expensive, such as the DKC OSTs, being over US$1000 and VG+ condition at best.

Huh, they released that Zelda one separately? It was packaged with my copy of Skyward Sword here

Also what the fuck, the DKC OSTs are that expensive?

Jazz Jackrabbit 3 was cancelled very late in development, so we still get to enjoy the soundtrack. Primarily Alexander Brandon as should be obvious by the style, although the castle theme is a remix from an old Necros tracker tune. I haven't heard all of it yet so I might edit this post.

This one sounds literally straight out of UT99. Some of the same oscillator effects and such:

^ RIP my friend.

After finally playing the game, I'm digging the Moon theme remix from Ducktales Remastered:

And one of the more addictive games I love playing, Crusader Kings 2:

And of course this old favourite, the Age of Empires soundtrack:

The best piece of music from WoW will forever be the daytime Grizzly Hills music:

Two criminally underrated soundtracks are for Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb and Secret Weapons Over Normandy (Underrated games as well). Both are top tier. John Williams would be proud of the Indiana Jones one. The one for Secret Weapons Over Normandy was composed by Michael Giacchino who also has composed for Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, Pixar, and JJ Abrams.
