I can only echo the love for Black Death. Great band, and really good to play with as well. They treated us so nice in Cleveland.

You played with them? Beyond cool! How is Siki live? As over-the-top as on the record?

Twice now!
He's definitely got attitude on stage. He's very old-school and live you hear more than ever how he's influenced by Hendrix and other contemporaries. he sings his heart out and has loads of energy but I think what he loves most is playing guitar.

he gave me the biggest, most sincere hug after the Cleveland show. haha
I'm sure the band lost money on that as the turnout was somewhat low, but they paid us very nicely for our time and travel from Ontario. We weren't expecting it and it was rather generous. Hail those guys.

As of yesterday, I am now a homeowner. I am no longer an indentured servant to rent.

Within about two hours of owning the house, we already stripped one room of its wallpaper... that the previous owner had painted over. Then we set off bug bombs in every room and left. My current lease doesn't end until November, and I don't have my first mortgage payment until then. So we have a very chill time to move everything. Still, planning to have it all done by October.

Okay, so I'm still an indentured servant to rent for two more months, but you get the idea.

That sounds absolutely amazing. Siki is also a very good guitarist but his over-the-top vocals on that opening track of the classic Black Death record is what made me fall in love with them.

And I am beyond stoked for the new Black Death album. I hope it comes out soon!

Isn't having a mortgage way closer to indentured servitude than renting?

I would say no. Instead of giving away money I'll never see again to a landlord, I'm putting it into property I own and can sell, modify, and handle myself. A mortgage can also be paid off, rent cannot. There's more freedom to it as it were, and that's exactly what I want. Granted, the actual term refers to unpaid labor, not paying rent, so I was going with hyperbole.

I think what he's saying is that indentured servitude could be fulfilled/paid back and then you'd be free, whereas slavery is eternal. Ergo ~30 years of payments to a bank before owning entirely is to indentured servitude as infinity rent payments to a landlord is to slavery.

Ohhh gotcha. I didn't want to make a slavery analogy, and it appears to be better fitting. I'm not that knowledgeable.

So Neckbeard Deathcamp was just introduced as some silly joke band and suddenly they're playing at Maryland Deathfest next year. What a time to be alive.

I would be ok with them if they were actually any good, but to me it's just another joke band even if their hearts are in the right place. Good for them though; definitely not hating on the hustle.

I was recently laid off from a temp job, got back on the liquor, and have now moved out with a friend and former coworker and I’m kinda contemplating just fabricating up Tolkien-esque conspiracy theories to cover booze and rent money. Now that bill hicks- erm, Alex jones is out of a job someone’s gotta have high blood pressure and scream into a microphone about how Hillary Clinton went back in time and changed berenstein bears to berenstAin bears

Decided to check out the second Metal Allegiance album this afternoon. It's 2018 and people still use Max Cavalera as the go-to guest for their token "tribal metal" songs.

This Monday morning (Labor Day here in the US, ironically) my wife gave birth to our first child. She's beautiful and all went incredibly well. (We went the midwife/home-birth/no-medication route which, Lord willing we have any more kids, we'll definitely do again.) The sleepless nights and endless messy diapers are now upon us hahahahaha.

I wonder if the cover to Pink Cream 69's Endangered is a tribute Billion Dollar Babies?

The Gaslight Anthem - one of my favorite bands. Caught them as an opener on 2008 and bought The 59 Sound a day later. Handwritten had a couple good ones, but Get Hurt was a major disappointment. Didn't like that one at all. Still hoping to see them become more active again soon, though.

My wife was born without meds. I may have problems with her mom but if there's anything I can give her, it's that she's an absolute fucking tank who is pretty much immune to pain. Three kids, all vaginal birth, all with no pain meds. I can only imagine the kind of herculean pain tolerance that would require, jesus shit.

Mainly because I feel like maybe 90% of people are going to see them as the "let's get a beer" band, so the beer lines will be real long. Good "let's get a beer" bands are ones where most people like them for some unfathomable reason.

Thanks guys! Parenthood is a pretty amazing thing. I never knew I could love someone so much. :)

As for the no meds thing, that's a whole big discussion with a lot in it. The main reason was that any medication given to the mother does indeed go to the child. The effects of medications to the child are debated, but we wanted to be as safe as possible for our little one. Additionally, there's this snowball effect with medication that we wanted to avoid: An epidural loosens the muscles and typically the uterus (a muscle) has trouble continuing to contract. So pitocin is given which is a a synthetic version of oxytocin which contracts the uterus. However, this often overlaps with any natural contractions, thus making them even MORE painful, so more pain medication is required... Then the mom gets so exhausted/drugged out that she can no longer push and thus a c-section is now necessary. This cycle doesn't happen 100% of the time or anything, but is very typical. There are a ton of health benefits for both mother and child to contract naturally and have a vaginal birth which I won't go into but are easily found online. :)

As for the pain, it was tough for sure. It hurt my wife in ways I'm unable to ever know. But she champed it just fine and was very grateful she did. Our western medical culture treats pregnancy and birth as some disease but it's really quite natural and our bodies were designed to handle it. If there are no health complications, I'm a firm believer that this is the ideal way to go. And if there were any issues, we had three trained people present who know if/when it's time to go to the hospital. And actually the midwife was at a hospital birth with very similar circumstances to ours (baby wasn't breathing right away). For us, they just rubbed vigorously her feet and hands, gave her a little air to inflate her lungs, and all was fine. But at the hospital, they cut the umbilical cord immediately (which along with the placenta, still has ~1/3 of the child's blood still in it) and rushed the kid off to whatever they do. They had to give the kid a blood transfer since he didn't have enough and as of a day or two later, he was still in the NICU when he never had to be there to begin with. I'm sure there's reasoning behind it, but from our limited perspective, it seemed quite unnecessary.

I thought the whole "natural" childbirth was just for dirty hippies but once we started researching it, my mind was made up pretty quickly. My two cents anyways! Thanks again for the congratulations. It's a joyous time for sure.

Both my grandmas' same thing but 15 kids each.. 1 or 2 died at birth or shortly thereafter, each. If there had been c-section and meds available then, it would have made a difference. 95% is pretty good as a school result, but when it comes to babies, everything short of 100% is a tragedy
