OK, the past five days in a nutshell:

On Thursday, right in the middle of my lunch, the stroganoff in front of me suddenly lost its taste, and the rest of the food turned bland. Also, I felt quite a bit of soreness in my thighs. I walked back to the office, all 200 meters of it, and when I was there, I already knew I was not going to finish the day, and that I had to leave immediately if I wished to drive my car back home.

As I got home, I was sore all over, with a fever coming, and immediately went to bed. I slept most of the next 26 hours with painkillers. At this point, it was obvious that it's likely swine flu, just muscle pain and fever in the beginning. I took all the precautions I could, and slept as much as possible. On Saturday evening, I felt a bit better, and remember thinking that I got off the hook rather lightly.

Not quite so. Sunday was worse, and during the whole thing, I haven't been able to eat pretty much anything. I get huge gag reflexes, and everything just seems yucky.

On Monday evening, The New Lady told me to get my ass to see a doctor, and wouldn't you know: I have pneumonia. The doc said that it's been a silent companion of the swine flu lately, and gave me some antibiotics with a warning: "these are pretty powerful, so eat before you take them, so you don't get bloody diarrhea". I got a week of sick leave, I can't have my kids or anyone else over because it's contagious, and I can eat, sleep, or keep my mind focused on anything for more than five minutes. Also, my larynx is infected, too, and I have very little of my voice left. This sucks.

It's also obvious that this is one of those moments where, weren't we living with modern medicine and antibiotics, I'd have at least something like 20% chance of finishing my existence within two weeks.

Guess who is getting his free influenza shots in the future, side effects or no.

Damn, its a good thing you went to the doctor. Hope you feel better soon.

Completely unrelated, but I just finished my first high school midterms, and it already feels nice to not have to worry about those tests.

Yeah it's not for everyone, didn't expect it to get so big either.

Also, sorry for those posts, I didn't necessarily think of it as promotion at first though I guess it probably be construed as such. I won't do it anymore.

Canada news, but our government has decided not to move forward with electoral change. Not surprised, but disappointed.

^This just in, powerful people don't make decisions that diminish their power! I think the only way we might have seen that actually happen was with a liberal minority.

But yeah, disappointed but not surprised in the slightest. :|

Derigin and CorpseFister: I am actually a little surprised that the government has chosen not to jigger with the election process. With most of the major cities being solid Liberal bastions, I'd think they would benefit from some kind of population-weighted system.

In other corruption news, Romania says "don't worry about small potatoes." Literally allowing officials to steal, accept bribes, whatever, as long as it's under 48,000$

Do download blogs for rare metal stuff actually still exist? I'm wishing there'd be a way to find that Disembarkation demo, a new band discovery I love, and it has track lengths listed on M-A so someone must have had it at some point...

Give it a few years, and who knows, you guys might be the norm here.

Granted, it is nice to have a "true" MA baby. You were born pretty much when MA came into existence! :D

They do but the links lead to russian download sites which have various virus warnings. Best to P2P if someone here has it.

That would be pretty awesome. I'm slowly overcoming my irrational fear of the tavern, one (shit)post at a time! I tend to forget that most of the regulars here also were teenagers at one point. Unless that's just a myth, and all the mods are indeed some dark council of demons. Ya never know!

Also @Storm of the Light's Bane I just realized that it was YOU that commented on my vid that one time. I noticed the description that said "I'm that guy from the metal archives" and I was racking my brain thinking "Yeah, but WHICH ONE!?" Now I feel dumb, haha

Mayhem + Inquisition + Black Anvil are playing here tomorrow but I work until 9:00-9:30 (and then 15 mins to travel to the show). Show begins at 8 PM. Of the couple dozen shows I've seen, I've never seen a headliner begin before 11PM, so I typically guess the timing by working backwards from there. The issue this time is that I heard Inquisition's setlist is relatively short so that leaves me relatively curious as to if I should even go at all. Would be nice to see some Inquisition.

To the point - did anyone attend this show and could anyone give a rough guess at to how long they played (and is Inquisition before Mayhem?).

Well, as is tradition (usually), if he keeps up with his admitted shit-posting in The Tavern, a custom title may be bestowed upon him...

A lot of regulars here probably did join as teens, but loads of people form V1 aren't around anymore or didn't have accounts on V1. I've used MA for a long ass time now but I never made an account till I was in my mid 20's.

Man, I fucked around and just looked at the cover for the new Rude album, now I must hear some death metal. I went with The Devil Speaks in Tongues by Mortem. Which reminded me they just put out a new album in 2016. I'm not the hugest death metal fan but I think it's really fucking cool that Nebiros still has the fire burning to write these hellish hymns to Him.

I think they are the most consistent death metal band of all time. I mean Nebiros basically just keeps trying to write Altars of Madness 2.0. He may never quite reach those heights but he gets about as close as anyone I've ever heard. Have you heard the new one? I have total faith that it kills, going to try to track down a cheap-ish copy blind.

I did not even know there was one until you posted about it, I will be checking it out later. I've just been extremely busy lately and haven't had much time to find new music.

Oh I dig that completely man. I don't even try to keep up with new stuff I just hear shit from time to time. There are a lot of Mortem diehards on the NWN forums, as you can imagine, so I caught wind of the new one like the day before it was released basically.

Yo you cannot make this shit up. My company is participating in a statewide donation campaign to collect underwear for children. But I think maybe they could have workshopped the name a little longer...

It's called Drop Your Drawers.

You might be cutting it close or miss Inquisition altogether. The show here started at 7, I got there at about 8:30 and Black Anvil was done. Inquisition setup and played fast and only 8 songs. Mayhem took about 45 freakin minutes to setup, but they had their entire crew messing with this 1 stage light for 15 minutes. I'd suggest taking off from work early for a really kick ass show. Even if you miss Inquisition it's still totally worth it imo.

Oops I meant BA was done at about 8:30 not 7:30, you might be fine.

It's way up there for sure! I think Somewhere Far Beyond is my favorite, but Battalions is definitely still in second place. It's easily one of my favorite pure speed metal albums (I consider it such, idk if others would). I've just been getting into them lately, so it's been a blast taking in everything they've got. However, I've known Battalions for a very long time. I just never thought to go beyond that. That... was a mistake, haha. Awesome band.

Somewhere Far Beyond is my favorite Blind Guardian album as well, truly a fantastic power metal album. Hansi's project with John Schaffer, Demons & Wizards is pretty good as well, if you haven't listened to them already. Oh, and I agree with Battalions of Fear being pure speed metal.

I watched a man try to cover Rush's Tom Sawyer at a bowling alley karaoke last weekend and it still kinda upsets me. I can faintly hear the shrill, off-pitch cries from that verse right before it goes into that weedily prog synth part in the back of my head at night when I lay down to go to sleep.

I also echo the obsession with Tribulation's Children of the Night. It's like you're biting into a Nepolean pastry. Addictive and unbelievably delicious. And no, I'm not fat.
