I get the feeling Epstein did off himself, but the guards and the cell mate were incentivized to look the other way and just let it happen. Best part of it all though is Trump claiming that literally anyone besides him was responsible for Epstein's death, a death that occurred in a federal prison. Sorry Fearless Leader but if you're responsible for the stock market then you're sure as fuck responsible for the death of arguably the most important prisoner in the country.

It's now been reported that two guards who were supposed to be watching Epstein fell asleep, didn't check on him for three hours and falsified the records to cover up their mistake. Also, the night before Epstein's death, his cellmate had been abruptly transferred to another cell and was not replaced with another cellmate.

Yes. They "fell asleep" and then "falsified reports."

This isn't some elaborate Truther scheme. This is textbook shit.

He probably paid some people off, but whatever. All this "what could have been" sentiment about who he could've shined light on is pointless. He's dead, inside job or not, and that's that. The only people truly at effect now are his victims, in which the path for reparation just got a lot more challenging.

I would really like to be told that this guy doesn't have any children. Or siblings.

Just tell me that he was artifically bred in a capsule or something. Please.

I don't really care if a Member has weird erotic fetishes, I would just prefer that they not air them in public.

As long as Trump is impressed (which isn't difficult with non-existent dicks), it's a small success, at least.

Well, he probably isn't impressed, because he probably really does think we have an ICCM like Skyfall. But I guess it's a success in that maybe he won't waste time and money trying to outdo Moscow on this if he thinks we already have one (and it would be a waste; we stopped researching this type of missile for a reason).

Well, this certainly won’t cause people to go deeper into looking at how Epstein died at ALL.

They say Thomas Jefferson had a purchase. Everybody is talking about it, but it wasn't bigly. A lot of people are saying we need a bigger purchase. A lot of people. Everybody's talking about it, we need a---a big purchase. So I'm going to buy Greenland. And we're going to do it, so--we're going to do it. Greenland. But you know it's not very green, and in fact a lot of people are saying it has too much snow and ice, and it makes--it makes them walk, they turn all white and out of control. I’ve seen this, and I’ve sort of witnessed it—in fact, in two cases I have actually witnessed it, they broke through a wall--not gonna happen with my wall, believe me--and so we're gonna make a purchase and we're gonna make it green again, and we're gonna have to rake the forest so it stays green, because I believe in beautiful, just beautiful clean air and crystal-clear water. Believe me. Greenland.

Ever since the mysterious abrupt end of the lawsuit against Trump in 2016 by a lady claiming he had raped her at an Epstein party in the early 90s when she was really young (I think 12 years old), it made me wonder what kind of strings this asshole is pulling in the shadows.

With the death of Epstein, that only serves to reinforce this conspiracy.

I have no doubt Trump raped kids. But it is also terrifying to think that all of his victims probably could disappear at his whim if they even so much as thought about telling their story. I hope one day they get their due justice though.

So Trump did a speech at a Shell plastics factory that just opened, and the company told the union workers at the plant that if they did not attend the speech, they would not be paid for that day. They also were told that they basically had to stand there deathly silent, and anything viewed as protesting or resisting would "not be tolerated".

https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/17/politics ... index.html

The thing about this that bugs me is the hypothetical situations that this could lead to in the future. Who's to say that a company won't one day make their workers attend a Trump speech or another other future President and not even give them the option of not attending, and then still not pay them anyway? Once you start actively getting into forced patriotism dictator shit like this, it becomes a slippery slope that is very easy to go downhill faster than you can imagine.

What fucks me up about it is that the media is shouting, "Hmmmm, the trade unionist, working class is what got him elected in the first place, this could seriously damage his chances for 2020!!" Except no, dipshits, it was largely rich white assholes and they fucking LOVE shit like this and have only doubled down on supporting him.

The media still doesn’t know how to report on Trump. They say he made a misstatement, rather than calling it a lie. They are afraid to report his racial comments as racist. They try to cover him as a typical Republican president, rather than as an aspiring dictator.

They're terrified the President may use the phrase "fake news," as he's been so reserved with its application so far.

On a related note, the fact Mueller alluded to charging Trump once he was out of office makes an outright rejection of an unfavorable election even more likely. People really need to start outlining a gameplan for this; it seems more probable by the day. Is there a system in place for a sitting president to be removed if he refuses to leave?

There is no doubt Trump will dispute the election if he loses. He even said in 2016 that he might not accept the election results. Trump made comments at a recent rally about possibly canceling the election. I can see him trying this if he sees the polls showing him losing. Plus he also keeps floating the idea about staying in office beyond two terms. Trump has no intention of ever leaving office and there will definitely be no peaceful transition of power. Congress will have to impeach him if he decides to stay in office after losing the election. I can see Trump suing over the election. Unfortunately with the current make up of the Supreme Court, I can see them deciding in his favor.

Yeah and they will certainly burn it somewhere else while retail investors get fucked over as usual. Not sure how it looks good for anyone.

Just spoke with my centrist friend who's a manager for TD Ameritrade. He said that he doesn't agree with many of Bernie's policies, but if his administration would implement this tax he would vote for him. The volatility of the US market is insane and extremely dangerous to stateside corporations, and a speculation tax would significantly decrease that. It's literally a win-win. So. Yeah.

So WaPo put up this stupid opinion piece with the actual headline, “If and when the recession begins, it won’t be Trump’s fault”. Remember that this is an ostensibly center-left newspaper with the fucking header “Democracy Dies in Darkness” at the top of every page.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/ ... mps-fault/

No one’s allowed to think this is a well thought out series of arguments and then call a site like Vox the “left wing Breitbart”, as someone here put it a while ago, ever again. Gotta love radical centrist, status quo-maintaining hacks.

Imagine if Obama had personally "hereby ordered" private companies to do whatever he wanted regardless of the authorities or constraints of any statutory law, like a socialist despot, on the same day that he escalated a trade war of his own making and just a few days after titling himself the Chosen One.

well, the same people who are giving Trump a pass on doing that very thing, would have been up in arms and demanding Obama's impeachment. The same...exact...people.

I consistently fail to understand why there is such a double standard with Trump vs. Obama or the Clintons. Trump can do no wrong, it seems, while if Obama or the Clintons pulled even half the crap that Trump does, it would probably be an armed insurrection by these Republican Trump-kissers.

Because Republicans are massive hypocrites on literally everything. Just look at how outraged they get at any negative artistic depiction of Trump while conveniently ignoring all the times they burned Obama in effigy or parades around dolls of him and his family with nooses around their necks, all while calling them monkeys and niggers and every other slur against black people you can possibly imagine.

Anybody still calling out hypocrisy against modern conservatives is missing the god damned point. They don't care, they never have. All that matters is consolidating power. The cruelty is the point. Constantly doing this only really shows two things. 1) You're working on the incorrect assumption that they want to be leftist/liberal/centrist in their hearts but have so far failed to do so, which shows a desperate misunderstanding in the fundamental difference between worldviews at work here. 2) You're showing that hypocrisy does mean a lot to you, so whenever a non-conservative does something hypocritical they will zero in on it and blast that person into oblivion and you will gladly help them.

There's an analogy that Ed Burmila overuses but it hasn't stopped being relevant ever since Trump happened: "Modern Democrats are the coach frantically pointing at the rulebook and shouting 'B-B-BUT DOGS CAN'T PLAY BASKETBALL!' while Air Bud dunks on them over and over and over again"

As someone who has worked in and around government almost his entire adult life, I must say that this isn't exactly true of most GOP operatives or politicians in federal government. For most of their professional lives, it would have been easier (and certainly more socially acceptable) to be Dems, and it probably would have been better for their career prospects as well; if these people were going to be hypocrites, it would have made more sense for them to pass as Dems. They live in one of the bluest metropolitan areas of the country; Republicans come and go in Congress, but as soon as they step outside the Hill they are the odd ones out. Most of their DC social circles are Dems; their roommates are mostly Dems; for the ones who have part-time side jobs (common among staff assistants), a lot of their coworkers will be Dems. On top of the low-key social ostracism, there is all the usual stuff that comes from working in Congress; the 70-hour work weeks, the (usually) mediocre pay when considering the cost of living in this area, the mau-mauing from hecklers to and from work, having to worry about job security every election cycle. No one in politics believes all of their party's kool-aid, but few people, whether GOP or Dem, will put up with that sort of life unless they have at least a handful of deep-seated policy preferences they want to work towards. So I think it's perfectly fine to point out the hypocrisy of Members and their staff, who've spent a little too much time reading "The Flight 93 Election" and who in the process have talked themselves into believing that Trump is their last shot before the blue tide takes over for good.

The Trump voter base is a different matter entirely, of course. The rabble only ever cares about getting its own, not principles or ideology. Pointing out hypocrisy to such people won't have much effect because the yokels just don't care.

In other news: ARMS RACES ARE FUN YOU GUYS, LET'S DO 1979-1983 ALL OVER AGAIN

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/23/worl ... reaty.html

I do not see how New START can possibly be renewed at this point. This administration has the most hostile posture towards arms control of any post-WWII administration, and our prospective negotiating partners in Moscow are gleefully churning out novel types of nuclear delivery systems because contractors gonna contract. The year 2021 might be the first year since the 1960's where the major nuclear powers are not negotiating an arms control treaty or beholden to an existing one.

What the hell is Pudding trying to do? He's usually incredibly precise and measured in his actions, which makes this all the more unsettling.

Not really, only in the Monmouth poll. Generally he's still sitting well at the top.

I really wish Warren would drop out and endorse Bernie. I don't think she'd stand a chance against Trump in the general, and even if she did somehow win, her actual presidency would likely end up being a somewhat better Obama. Her foreign policy is every bit as bad (or worse?) than Obama's and, despite making grand gestures about it on the debate stage, has no plans for Medicare For All; it's not even on the issues on her website, only a vague mention of it as something her Wealth Tax (which is great, btw) can be used for.

Meanwhile, Bernie just released the gold fucking standard of a Green New Deal, something that would fundamentally improve this planet and the people who live here for decades to come.

Bernie is incapable of handling this correctly with his rabid anti-nuclear stance.

There is, quite simply, no realistic future for "green energy" that doesn't rely mostly on nuclear. The technology to do it otherwise is simply not there, and it's not tremendously clear it'll ever be there. Any "green new deal" coming from an anti-nuclear candidate is going to be a hot mess, as a result.

Can you back this claim up? I understand that nuclear is the most energy dense option, but does that really mean that using an energy system based on a multitude of other renewable resources is completely unrealistic? It might be far less efficient, but many people would gladly trade that efficiency to avoid an eventual catastrophe created by nuclear power.

Oblarg is simply factually wrong, nuclear energy has only survived on excessive subsidies for decades, renewable energy especially offshore wind has become cheaper than coal, oil and gas years ago. Desert solar energy of course would be even more cost effective in the long run but they're getting hung up on building the power lines from the South to the North, which economically would be made up within less than five years and save billions from there (translated to about ten bucks from your monthly electricity bill), but the lobby just isn't there, only the lobby for 20th century outdated obsolete shit energy is there.

Been saying for years that lobbyism equals corruption (lobby groups are paying money to go against the will of the voter), corruption equals betrayal of democracy, betrayal of democracy equals high treason (going against the voter in favour of those who pay) and high treason equals death penalty offense, but no heads are rolling yet. They need to.

There's a lot of people into atompunk. Wind farms and solar panels on parking garages just aren't as sexy as giant power plants blasting atomic death rays.

Bolton getting his pink slip is probably the last bit of good news we'll be getting from this administration. Savor it.

Trump announces a ban on flavoured e-cigarettes after a total of six deaths. That's a staggering 0.0001% of the annual deaths from smoking. Thank your saviour for protecting your children from true danger.

Yeah but e-cigarettes are new and thus weird and scary. Doesn't matter that most smokers of regular cigarettes start before the age of 18 because that's normal.

Would make more sense to worry about the millions who die from first hand smoke, unless you're one of those "addicts have only themselves to blame"-fascists, in which case you might as well support Donald Trump or more appropriately David Duke or the like.
