This isn't that widely known from what I can tell. George Young, brother of Angus and Malcolm, was the band's producer. Apparently he wasn't communicating too well with his brothers because he was pursuing Allan Fryer of the Aussie band Heaven while his brothers were after Brian Johnson. George apparently went to his brothers and said I got a replacement for Bon, and his brothers said so do we. Angus and Malcolm won out and George had to deliver the bad news to Allan.

Would it have made a difference?

BTW Fryer died in 2015. Here he is with Heaven for those who don't know. Listen close to the riffs as he namechecks bands.

Don’t think this belongs in the metal discussion board.

Your new title should be "alternate reality."

It'd have given AC/DC more of a hair metal sound, that's for sure.
But when he's singing the chorus of In The Beginning, I don't think it's that much of a reach to say that he'd have done just fine as the voice of AC/DC, depending on his live chops of course.

That looks 100% like the kind of thing you'd see in one of those "rock and roll/hair metal horror" flicks that Red Letter Media occasionally reviews. Kinda dig it.

There's some footage out there of a really early AC/DC concert with some clown who looks like sort of like Stephen Pearcy of Ratt on lead vocals, complete with glam-rock attire and everything, and believe me... it's pretty bad. This was apparently from BEFORE Bon Scott was in the band.
AC/DC was never the right band for that style of vocalist. Anyone other than Bon Scott, Brian Johnson, or someone else in that vein, probably wouldn't really work.

The one dude that I'd heard was rumoured was Jimmy Barnes (a fellow Australian).

Jimmy has some goddamn motherfucking PIPES, man. I don't think he would have been the right choice for the job, but man alive....

This song is SUPER 80's, but easily my favourite Jimmy Barnes song.

 I figured you were talking about Dave Evans...he's a gigantic joke and infamous for his stupid comments, trying to take credit for AC/DC's later success, mocking Bon Scott, you name it...the anti-Al Atkins, if you will. If you think that's funny, check this video from a few years back (2014 I think) where he plays on some morning TV show with a Brian Johnson lookalike.

Yeah, Dave Evans is renowned as a "has-been whataboutist" constantly holding on to his 15 minutes of fame of "Can I Sit Next To You Girl" (even though I also enjoy the version with him on it).

Heaven were a LEGENDARY band in the 80s on the local pub scene.

Also I've noted people in the scene talking about the singer from Krokus having been a good candidate as a replacement, not sure how that would've gone
