Quiet Riot has decided they will continue on without Frankie. Johnny Kelly, will be replacing DuBrow on drums.

Quote:
QUIET RIOT has announced plans to continue, less than a month after the death of the band's drummer Frankie Banali.

The veteran rockers revealed their plans to carry on in a social media post on Wednesday. They wrote: "QUIET RIOT - 2020/2021 Because life goes on!

"It was Frankie Banali's wish that the band continue and we keep the music and the legacy alive.

"[Bassist] Chuck Wright has been in the band off and on since 1981 and played not only on the song 'Metal Health' but many other QUIET RIOT Albums. [Guitarist] Alex Grossi has been in the band since 2004 touring and recording. [Singer] Jizzy Pearl has been a member of the QUIET RIOT family since 2013 and [drummer] Johnny Kelly [DANZIG, TYPE O NEGATIVE] has been doing a great job filling in on drums this past year with Frankie's blessing.

"We are happy to have shows on the calendar with many more TBA and very much look forward to celebrating the history and legacy of QUIET RIOT with all of you in 2021 and Beyond...!!"

Frankie was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer on April 17, 2019 and given six months to live. He put up an inspiringly brave and courageous 16-month battle to the end and continued playing live as long as he could. Standard chemotherapy stopped working and a series of strokes made the continuation on a clinical trial impossible. He ultimately lost the fight at 7:18 p.m. on August 20 in Los Angeles surrounded by his wife and daughter.

Banali was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer after going to the emergency room for shortness of breath, leg pain and loss of energy. A scan of his lungs caught an image of his liver, which is where the first spots were seen. Then came the discovery of a tumor on his pancreas.

He had been in treatment since the spring of last year and recently completed his 21st round of chemotherapy with the hopes of shrinking or controlling the cancer.

Banali played his first show with QUIET RIOT since he announced his cancer diagnosis last October at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California.

At some of QUIET RIOT's 2019 and 2020 shows, Banali was replaced by Kelly or Mike Dupke (W.A.S.P.), depending on each musician's availability.

QUIET RIOT's shows last year with Kelly and Dupke marked the first time ever that the band performed without any of the members from its classic lineup: Banali, singer Kevin DuBrow, guitarist Carlos Cavazo and bassist Rudy Sarzo.

Banali resurrected QUIET RIOT in 2010, three years after the death of founding member DuBrow.

QUIET RIOT went through two vocalists — Mark Huff and Scott Vokoun — before settling on Pearl in 2013. Pearl announced his exit from QUIET RIOT in October 2016 and was briefly replaced by Seann Nichols, who played only five shows with the group before the March 2017 arrival of "American Idol" finalist James Durbin. Pearl returned to QUIET RIOT in September 2019.

QUIET RIOT's latest studio album, "Hollywood Cowboys" — featuring Durbin on vocals — was released last November via Frontiers Music Srl.

Well, he was mad at Kevin DuBrow for dying.

Now they all get to be mad at him for dying.

I still can't tell who the hell even wants them to keep going. It was kind of endearing when it was centered on Frankie's dedication but now it just reeks of guys desperately hanging onto a meal ticket.

The same applies to Thin Lizzy since Phil's death. Hell, imagine if Dio's old bandmates used his fame to still get a payday... oh wait.

Damnit Ozzy, you just caused Holographic Frankie to exist by planting the idea in our minds. It's only a matter of time now.

They should just change the name to "Menudo" at this point. Kevin was the only "original" member and he's long gone, and Frankie was the only sort of original member from the classic 80's period (at their peak) and now HE's gone. Which one of the "new kids" even has rights to the name?

I know, Quiet Riot isn't the only band to go full Menudo with their members (Sepultura and Napalm Death are two others I can think of right off hand) but at some point, after the heart and soul of the original band is long gone, you may as well just change the name rather than try and cash in on someone else's glory.

I mean... I'm all for making money via your art, but if you didn't write 95% of that art, I can't really get behind you "wanting to keep a job".

I get trying to keep your job but I just wonder what kind of audience there is for this sort of thing now. Like, will this literally be profitable enough for them to even bother?

They'll probably sell about six more copies if they release a new album under the Quiet Riot name than if they release it under a new band name.

They're playing the "Grand Stage Amphitheater" in less than a month.

They were a washed up Vegas lounge type act long before all this. Even when Kevin DuBrow was still with them. I remember a big deal when they played some bar (With Kevin still singing) up in Lewiston Idaho, and the locals up there were like, Wow, celebrities, playing our little town. Where is Lewiston, Idaho? That's the point- it's an industrial mill town about four hours drive from Spokane. The Grand Stage Ampitheater is about the type of venues they have been playing of late.

The heart and soul of Napalm Death (the way they are now) is not gone so that's a weird association.

Regarding QR, who really cares about them anymore? Even in a live setting, the fans only care for the classic era material and if these guys' intention is to create new music (which it's not!) then why not just form a new band?

I love this kinda stuff, makes me vaguely jealous of the US. I just looked that joint up on google maps and it's a fucking farm, hahaha. There's a charm to acts whose 15min of fame is long gone playing backwaters like this. County fairs and "red state rock festivals" etc. I just imagine drinking like 100 tins of PBR in the sun, eating my body weight in hot dogs and just rocking the fuck out with bands like Quiet Riot, or Warrant or some shit.

But yeah QR was already basically a cover band without DuBrow, and without Banali it's not even "basically". I can't imagine they'll put out any more albums though, so eh?
