It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint. A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed.

We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time.

RIP, man.

This is very sad news. The Prodigy is one of handful electronic bands I really, really love. He'll be missed. R.I.P., you legend.

Just saw this today. Apparently another suicide. Very sad stuff. I remember The Fat of the Land being absolutely HUGE when it came out. I was actually kind of surprised to see their name popping up on recent festivals but I guess they dropped some more hit albums in more recent times. Totally crazy for an electronic act to stay that relevant for that long as it seems like most of that music has a rather limited shelf life. Sad.

I'm in shock, still can't believe it. His voice and stage presence were amazing. I had the luck of seeing him live in 2005. To me The Prodigy will always be the best electronic dance act ever. Let's just hope Liam will continue to make music. RIP. :(

Extremely sad and shocking news. I always thought these guys were the Godflesh of electronic dance music. They were the only act that I cared for in that vein. We'll never forget the Firestarter. R.I.P. Keith.

I get it's not kosher to ask how but it's leaving me curious. Either way, I've got "Smack My Bitch Up" going right now. The Prodigy had some nasty songs back in the day, I loved how they used that song in one of the Scary Movies. Either way, "The Firestarter" is still something that my buddies and I love to invoke for fun. They didn't have a big piece in my life but definitely were fun for where the group was.

Sucks the guy wanted to go but it's far worse for all around him now. Suicide is a tough thing to discuss but it's worth understanding just to keep it from being too close an option to many. Unfortunately, it's the only way out to too many and talking about it is shunned still, especially in the media other than saying "we love you" and then advertising the next spot as though that changes anything. The music will get a bump here, but that won't fix anything for the people around the guy even with the YouTube bump, endless generic comments, and headlines across the globe will be saying "R.I.P" as though that's some salve for the situation. It's weird when it comes to celebs because it's so public. When it happens within your circle, it's closer and far less talked about (at least in our group) in the months later no matter how much those you love are still factoring it into their every step. If The Prodigy gets someone to fill Flint's shoes soon, the only questions will be about the suicide. That doesn't happen with friends and family, you end up talking around things for a while, directly for a bit, and once in a while letting the closest ones to you bring out their pain just to make it a momentary catharsis, but the media needs to feed on this thing and wants to push as much strife and conflict into anything even if it is a healing thing later. It doesn't heal overnight and it won't be the same for everyone involved.

Either way, his pain is gone, whatever pain he was in, and now there are plenty who have pieces to pick up for those who may be in a world of shit. It sucks all around. I've seen some friends grow and not let such a deep cut scab them so harshly, but it's still a terrible thing to deal with no matter how enticing it is as that simple personal end. For some, it's impossible to outlive those around you to finally have the chance at ending your own personal pain. As horribly self-centered a notion as that may seem, it has its truth in too many lives and honestly discussing this hard thought is far better than those few minutes taking that drastic measure.

A sad way to go, always. Fat of the Land was one of the first albums I ever bought. One band I should really dig into. Heard so much good stuff from them.

I bought ...Jilted Generation back in '96 to see what all the fuss was about. Well, it must have worked because I'm up to their new album now! To say Keith's death came as a shock is putting it mildly. It's looking like he couldn't handle the split from his wife.

As weird as it seems to think that he'd go a more exciting way, it's sad how common it is to take the noose. Cornell, Bennington, even Brody Stevens a week ago, those are the quickest names that pop into my head now and it sucks to see how common it is.

Alright, now we know, please stop discussing the method. It's pretty poor taste.

Never really listened to his music but respect the impact he had on his respective scene. My condolences to his loved ones. RIP

No need to be so defensive. I wasn't really speaking to anyone in particular, but if I was, it wasn't you.

I'm not. I did answer to both. To Five_Nails about what did I mean and to you implying it's poor taste, yes.

I was living in Israel at a time. Fat of the Land was being released and there was a record shop that had a release party at midnight during a weekday. So my brother and I are taking our bikes and ride downtown. Its in a huge mall, the record shop is at the basement level. You have one entrance to the mall open with a security guy being like - "Whats the fuss guys....?".

So we go downstairs, get into the store there are about 8-12 people just walking around looking at records. We chat the clerk a bit, buy our copy. The album is playing in the background, there is a stand with the CD's and a poster of the cover. We kinda just hang around, look at CD's and I notice a kid my age (14 years old) from my high school. We never hang and we haven't known each other names either but we kinda just nod each other like "Yeah man, Prodigy is the best. We got the album before everyone else" kind of nod.

So we just hang and maybe chat with some people there about other music. Its way pass midnight, I have to go to school the next morning and we still have to bike home for 20 minutes.

A few weeks later on at school, that same kid saw me in my The Prodigy t-shirt (Keith with green spikes and an open mouth) and we kinda said how cool the Prodigy is and such. We never hanged out but that was interesting to cross paths with various people through music. Thats one snippet of how the music influenced me.

I too bought Fat of the Land at a midnight opening. Was second in line.

TBH, Keith Flint was never the draw for me, it was more those big fat dirty beats.
