Hi, I'm considering selling:

CDs (mostly metal, some rare)
DVDs and Blu Rays (most common, some rare)
Games (Xbox One and Xbox 360)
Adult DVDs (I have a few >_>)

What is the best way to do this?

Is it difficult to sell everything on EBay? I can't imagine the process of selling and shipping a lot of CDs.

I found Decluttr, but it seems they don't pay much. Discogs is going to be very slow, it seems. Ebay seems slow as well.

I want to sell everything at a decent speed, but without getting ripped off.

Thanks guys.

Have you tried CD Fairs, Car-Boot Sales, local Markets?

I've used Amazon for cd's, as it's much easier than Ebay. I havent sold anything on ebay in probably 10 years as it was just too time consuming. Only way Id recommend that way is if you'd sell our whole collection in one auction.
As for everything else, your best bet is probably selling/trading it directly to amazon, but you won't get much.

it might be hard to sell as a job lot, you would have to reduce the price a lot. you could pick out all non-rare stuff and bulk them together, then sell the rare stuff individually so you get a decent price for it...
how many items are you talking roughly?
is there a reason you need to sell them quickly?

i find ebay is ok for selling (much much quicker than discogs). as long as you don't put too high price tag it will sell.
it can be a pain to list everything but if you do it in batches, maybe listing a few a day, once they are up there you can just keep relisting them.

i think the main thing is to set a realistic price and it should shift quite quickly.
what will your currency be? mine is £GBP
by the way it is not worth my time selling anything for less than £3 postage included, as i only make just over a £1 on it after fees.
if it's worth less than that i would just give it away if you don't want to store it or whatever
i had a bunch of VHS tapes recently (good films and most like new), i just put them up for free on a local buy and sell site to get rid of them.

Thanks for the responses. I decided I'm only going to sell a bit of my total collection.

What is better for this? Discogs or Ebay? Local pawn shops only give like $1 an album. I'm in no big rush.

What I did: Put all the ones that are worth anything on Discogs, put all the other crap in a box and sell in one piece in a classified ad for what you said, $1 per CD but only if the take the whole damn box with all the crap.

I've had pretty good luck on Discogs. They make it very easy IMO and that's often the first place collectors will look so I think Droneriot's recommendation is sound in terms of putting at least the valuable stuff on there.

A lot of it depends on what's a "decent speed" for you. I recently posted a bunch of my CDs on Discogs and immediately got a handful of orders... and then the rest of 'em have just been sitting there with little activity. So if you're in a hurry, you may want to have a Plan B for the stuff that doesn't sell right away.

I've been thinking about this recently, as well.

My CD collection is around 3600. My vinyl collection is around 1000. I have a huge DVD/Blu Ray collection, including around 500 criterion titles/boxsets. I had been thinking about doing it for a long time, and then my wife and I separated. I was still storing my stuff at her house while living elsewhere. In October, we had a flood in our home, and the basement got destroyed. Luckily, my collection was completely fine as nothing sat directly on the ground. But having everything all packed away in labelled boxes really made me wonder, "What the hell am I doing with all this STUFF?"

I would recommend Discogs for the valuable titles. It can be slow on there but it does help if you are selling something that no one else is selling a copy of at the moment. People tend to undercut each other on there and drive prices too low if there are numerous copies of a cd available at once. For titles that aren't worth much, I would group them all together and sell in an eBay lot. You may only be able to get about a dollar a cd but at least Media Mail means you could easily ship a bunch of cd's cheaply.

I too had the idea to sell off my collection a few years ago, but I mainly just ended up parting with things that were particularly valuable.

Put your list up here first, in the Marketplace, and give us first crack at it, eh?

I would absolutely do this first. I'd rather real fans end up with my good stuff rather than some dustbin at a pawn shop. I've never really looked into the marketplace here. Is selling non-metal related stuff allowed?

Post your stuff here and in Discogs, I think those are your better options.

it's something i've thought of too. i don't have anywhere near that amount but i do have a large collection of CDs and i still buy.
i have been selling of my cassette collection as i never listen to them and have not had a tape player in over 10 years even, so that was a no brainer.
it has been nostalgic though as we do grow attached to this stuff. i also gave away some VHS, all my fave films growing up. they were just lying in the roof space. i'm never likely to watch them again so what's the point really. i guess you have to weigh it up and make a decision
i think i'll keep my LPs for now as they do not take up a lot of space at all, but that may change. i don't have a record player either and haven't for years but i keep threatening to get one :p
i've a very small collection of DVD and Bluray which i don't mind keeping also.

for yourself , i would definitely consider getting rid of some of it, if you have not watched/listened to them in say 2 years then will you in the future?
if you did decide to keep them you could maybe actively start watching and listening to the collection again. it might be fun rediscovering it
