Which is it, so bad we have to stop all immigration, or so good we need to fight stay-at-home orders to get the economy started? The message was also written in a way that's sure to excite racists all over twitter (it's already started, with people excited by the stop of immigration). But like I said, a slow down of immigration doesn't seem, at first glance, like a bad thing to do.

When most reactionary movements do something or vote for something specifically to harm other people, they at least hope to get something tangible out of it. These people don't gain anything. There are of course those who are almost congenitally incapable of understanding the actual consequences of their actions, but a non-trivial chunk of this movement is built on pure spite and vindictiveness for whom the affliction of harm upon their perceived enemies is all they ever intended to do.

Can you even read? Trump explicitly said the immigration ban is about "protecting American jobs," not stopping the migrants from catching coronavirus. Besides, he's not shutting down the planes from unloading migrants, most of those have already shut down voluntarily. What this ban is about, is preventing immigrants already in the country from getting permanent green cards. It has almost nothing to do with the pandemic, it's mostly another scapegoat for his heinous mismanagement of the crisis, and it's indefensible unless you're a blood and soil "America for Americans ONLY" kinda guy.

Yeah, it's generally expected that leaders are going to use the pandemic as a tool of mass hysteria to allow irrelevant bullshit to slide through. Hungary declaring themselves a dictatorship, Poland trying to ban abortions (as well as Texas), America halting immigration. It's just non stop power grabs, completely in alignment with stuff like the patriot act post-9/11.

So it turns out that there were three Covid deaths in the US that happened before the original first confirmed Covid death on March 9. One on February 6, one on February 17, and one on March 6, and all were in Santa Clara County, California. I guarantee you a lot of people will latch onto that idea that this means the virus is not as bad as it seems instead of realizing that this means the virus is much worse than initially thought, because the testing base for Covid was not really even sort of widespread in this country until the end of March. Who knows how many more people around the US died from this before March 9, but are unknown?
