Not looking forward to it that much, honestly. The original Borat movie was a work of pure brilliance and hilarity, but there's no way this one will work as well because no one will be fooled by the character. You can only do something like that once.

Evidently it worked if he somehow snuck into an RNC event.

Not true at all, I still laugh at Ali G and Borat. Especially when he interviewed Noam Chomsky, god that shit was awesome.

Spoiler: show

In the case of Borat, all the character does is act a reflection of the ignorance and bigotry of the people he talks to. Sometimes the best light is one with a sense of humor.

Bruno was pretty dumb though, I'll admit that.

You'd be surprised how many people I've asked about Borat and they say they've never heard of him. I think if they faced that sort of problem they would've just cancelled the movie. Maybe I'm wrong, who knows.

Sacha Baron Cohen is a MASTER of character humour. He's been hood-winking people for decades, and he's definitely not lost his touch. Don't get me wrong, the original Borat was gold. But the fact that he dunked on a bunch of right wing commentators by interviewing them as Ali G and they didn't know who the fuck he was just sort of goes to show that most people probably won't recognize him as Borat.

I am, however, looking forward to the full scene where he yells at the vice president "Michael Pen-is! I have got a girl for you!"

That show 'Who is America' had some good stuff in it - enough so that I'm down to try this, too. If nothing else it exposes a lot of absurdity and bullshit and actual horror in the system.

I agree with the general sentiments above. I loved the original Borat movie, but doing another one, at this stage, would be pointless. His schtick, as entertaining as it was back in the day, has gotten kinda old. I'd still watch the original one again.

I didnt get into "Bruno" that much. It was, as we used to say when we were kids, "Hell of gay." Or, a more PC way of putting it, it was just too over the top crude. It had some funny moments in it to be sure, but overall it didn't do it for me.

I'm avoiding all trailers for this like the plague and will be watching it the second it comes out.

I loved the first one and I LOVED Bruno.

I'm curious enough that I'll check it out, that's for sure, but I also have to echo the sentiments of his shtick. I mean, Borat rocked, I remember watching Bruno and thought it was cool, taking into account that I was 14 when it came out but I felt like everything after that became predictable. That said, he's an excellent character actor and maybe Unorthodox is right, but I can't imagine someone not knowing who Borat is by now, that film was immensely popular and still is, at least in the collective consciousness around here.

But despite my somewhat negative opinion here, I'm certainly willing to give this a chance because if he against all odds (my odds that is) manages to pull this off excellently it will be hilarious as fuck and I'll surely eat my words!

strong disagree on comments saying 'this doesn't work anymore'. I'll reserve judgment on this movie in particular till it's actually out, but Who Is America showed he was still well capable of reaching the same highs he hit with the original Da Ali G Show back in the early 2000s.

That's pretty much the only way this could work again to its full potential. Everybody would be onto his little tricks, as the trailer clearly shows.

I don't know. I sincerely doubt Mike Pence would stage something with Sacha, just like I don't think Roy Moore would have taken part in a 'staging' where he's accused of being the pedophile he is (this was in a show he did just recently, like a year or two ago?)

Just to be clear that I'm absolutely not defending Giuliani, but he didn't think she was underage, though it seemed he was jacking it to someone out of the blue from what I read. It's Borat who arrives afterwards and says "She's too young for you, she's 15" (she's not). Still weird and disgusting from "America's Mayor" and maybe illegal if she didn't consent (which I'm not sure). That's my understanding of the situation at least.

I really liked the first one, but is this something that could be continued to a part 2? Seems like when something starts off with an underground feel, or is low budget, then becomes big, the budget for the next part two or three becomes bigger. The movies seem to be a disappointment. The studio gets heavily involved as expectations become much higher. A good example is Clerks. Hopefully this is not the case for Borat. I really enjoyed the first part and for the most part and believe the man is a comical genius. Would of loved to seen him play Freddie Mercury like was planned. I will check this out for sure. High Five!

It comes out today on Amazon Prime. Hopefully there'll be a bit torrent of it up soon enough so I can preview it.

I cannot wait to see this movie. The lengths he's gone for a gag are astounding. I'm wondering how long the Guliani bit will be in the cut but man is it wild how he's gotten so close to some big names and no matter what the wildness of it doesn't always have to end up capped with such poignant social commentary like what happened with the guy who thought he killed someone in Who Is America but more a show of how no matter who you are, you have a flaw. I mean look at how much public opinion on Rudy changed from "America's Mayor" to "Trump's lawyer". Man it's a wild world we live in and I hope at some point social media shows that, in the next few generations, people aren't always paragons of greatness but when they do a great thing it's worthy to acknowledge and when they are fucked up it's worth noticing as well.

We're in a time where statues of historical terrors were torn down alongside statues of historical greats. I hope that this movie will still be a good way to laugh among all the rage because even if Borat doesn't piss you off, he's still a funny guy.

I ended up liking the movie once I saw it, but I was pretty turned off by it when it was announced that he had left.

It sounded like he was trying to make a wild movie about Freddie Mercury, but The Suits (Brian May) were terrified of what that movie would do for their image.

So I obtained a bit torrent of the new Borat movie and started watching it. Unfortunately there were no subtitles for the "Kazakh" language segments, but I was still able to get a decent understanding of them from context. It's not as magical as the first one, definitely, but still pretty funny. There's this scene where he goes into a tech store and opens up a porn site on one of the computers in there

I watched it on Prime last night. It's fine. If you're a brainpoisoned "centrist" like Five_Nails, you'll probably hate it, because the movie focuses exclusively on lampooning and satarising and skewering the mainstream currents of the modern Republican party, without even the vaugeist nod towards mocking Democrats or anyone in the entire left. It even ends with begging the viewer to vote as the credits roll, clearly pleading to get the Cheeto out of the White House this November.

On one hand, I'm delighted because the Republicans are the clear and present threat to the country right now. On the other, I'm less amused because the GOP skated past parody the second they nominated a comically corrupt billionaire gameshow host for the presidency, making even outrageous parody like SBC being barely distinguishable from a typical white house press briefing.

IMO, Tim Robbins's Bobbo Supreme is the only satire that really understands the current moment and is able to take it to the extreme it needs to go to still be parody.

Don't want to derail into a long discussion, just want to add that I mean practical centrism (as in, not supporting any major party or voting for opposing parties on the same ballot to cancel each other out because "they're equally bad,") rather than sensible centrism, which is where your ideological stance takes elements from "both sides" to construct a spectrum of views that can't be tethered to any one establishment.

Saw the movie last night. It was solid enough but not as big a surprise as the first. Still, I loved a few of the big public gags, especially the dancing at the debutant ball.

It's obvious that he fears being recognized, so he adopts several different disguises quite different from his usual appearance, which I though was interesting.

Of course this movie isn't as good as the original. Like I said before, you can only really pull something like this off once.

Loved it. It's definitely all about skewering the US Republicans but also has a lot of themes about how people view women and girls. The political parts won't change anyone's mind probably, and some will hate it for that. But Cohen really goes hard and does some brutal shit on this, and it's fucking funny. Sometimes we need stuff like this that is just utterly disgusted by things and is screaming into the void.

Saw it a few days ago. I liked it quite a bit, not as much as the first, but still really good and one of the best comedies I've seen in years (if we're being honest, there's not been that many comedic movies that have come out recently that I like. Different story for tv.)

Spoiler: show
-The period dance was ridiculous, probably the most I laughed in the movie.
-That was genius level shit when they got that doctor to admit he was against abortion even when its incest between a daughter and father. Totally fucking insane.
-I didn't really see Giuliani trying to whip his dick out, but regardless he was being a fucking creep and that whole scene was weird to watch. Funny how Qanon thinks democrats run pedo rings and meanwhile that's their guy.
-I do like that the movie seeks to polarize and isolate the right away from ever possibly enjoying this. Great shit.

I'm with you on the dance Unorthodox. That was one of those "how did he get away with that" moments. Still, there was so much craziness that the phone store scene completely left my mind until now.

Spoiler: show
The running of the American was a great cap to the ending when the two were sneezing and coughing on people before Karen machine gunned Fauchi and stomped on his big needle.

It was messed up seeing that guy heiling at the country song. That was a damning moment and the whole country song bit was a scary sequel to the "In My Country There is Problem" bit from over a decade ago.

I saw it last night and loved it.

I'm really surprised how many people are saying they preferred the 1st because I vastly preferred this one.

I feel like the first just made some political statements but wasn't really "needed" like this one was and was more about just being funny, whereas i found this one both funnier and willing to go further for the laughs (I mean the scene with his daughter doing the "fertility dance" was hilariously over the top) but was also going much further to make political statements and satirize our corrupt government at a time where it's really needed as catharsis.

I think this one was just all around better and probably the best trolljob of any kind that has been done on Trump and the right in the past 4 years possibly, or at least that I'm aware of.
