Static X are nothing like Slipknot other than being pigeonholed in the same shitty label of nu-metal/mallcore.

Why because they have a more shitty techno influence in their mallcore music than rap like Slipknot?

Or because the singer's haircut is even a more hideously stupid marketing stunt than Slipknots masks?

Or most likely because you like a mallcore band, so they must not, can't be mallcore.

I call bullshit Sir.

No, because they sound nothing like Slipknot, anybody with a modicum of hearing ability can tell that.

I call idiocy sir.

Agreed.

Having extreme metal influences in your sound does not mean you are trying to be an extreme metal band. Even if their vocals were guttural (and they aren't - certainly not by extreme metal standards), you would hardly be in any position to state with certainty why this was the case ("trying to be extreme metal" being one of countless possible reasons) unless you knew from the band themselves.

Exactly, and to expand on this, Slipknot acquired Corey Taylor from his band Stonesour because they WANTED a more radio-friendly sound to their music. I'm most certain the band knows exactly what they are playing, and it isn't extreme metal, nor does it try to sound like it, despite taking influences from it.

Occasionally System of a Down sound like Slipknot.

Mushroomhead sounds similar to the first Slipknot album, and Disturbed sounds similar to what Slipknot is like now (But not as aggressive).

If that's true, Dream Theater's Train of Thought must sound like Slipknot too. I swear, when I listened to that, I forgot what I was doing for a second and thought I was listening to Godsmack and/or Disturbed. :ugh:

Disturbed is pretty bearable, but Godsmack? No.

Any band under Roadrunner Records from 2000 up until now has similarities to the sound of Slipknot. :P

Just imagine it with Turntables, no keyboard, and screaming, it's not that far off Slipknot.

Nothingface
Some Static-X
Some Mushroomhead
Oteps first two albums are very reminisant of Slipknots first two major label albums.
Chimaira and Devildrivers first albums.

There are very few bands that sound like Slipknot. Also, Corey Taylor only really rapped on their ST. I would also recommend checking out their new album All Hope Is Gone. Its the most metal album they have ever released. Reminds me of a simpler TTAOEs era Machine Head.

a) good suggestions
b) the last album is a metal album (at least much more than their predeccessors)
c) the last album is shit, indeed, maybe precisely because is the more metal eheh
d) the difficulty we have to find a band that really comes closer to emulate the sound of this band proves their originality at least
e) FURTHERMORE does anyone know a non-dark/gothic, non-industrial, non-funny-grindcore like IWABO metal band where the SAMPLER has got relevance as instrument (apart from Today Is the Day and Neurosis btw)

What I've concluded from this thread is nothing really sounds like Slipknot. I got to give them credit for being original then, even if their music is sonic equivalent of assrape.

Agreed. It's weird how 9 people can make such crap when one-man bands such as Burzum could make such great music.

It isn't that weird, really. They're just 9 people with a musical vision and output that, altogether, isn't consistent with what I (and, I assume, most people here) appreciate in heavy music. That's my take on it, anyway.

I remember walking in downtown san diego and i heard a homeless guy beating on buckets and other such items as if they were drums and i thought to myself "This guy sounds like Slipknot." I also laughed becuase of the irony that his vagrancy is a good representation of where that band should be, homeless on the streets.

i was just wondering "how will it take to make this thread an-anti-slipknot-one?"

eheheh
while i definetly LOVE Burzum output... fan of classical music could possibly in return say:
"It's weird how 1 person can make such crap playing so much different instruments on such lenghty pieces when an humble piano composer such as Eric Satie could make great innovative and emotional music in a much shorter/less pretentious musical formats (listen to the gymnopedies for example)"

ignoring the metalness of their music, slipknot's debut of 1999 stands out as a very original take on heavy music, in a moment where the then-all-conquering-numetal scene was going in a very different direcetion....

the use of multiple percussionists, samples, scratch to add power/noise to the stereotypical heavy rock ensemble is something totally understimated unfortunately by metalheads... beacause they dont find the "metal-element" they are used to, beacause they just dont get they cant/dont have to demand from slipknot the same things from, say, morbid angel.

anyway imo 99% of their post-1999 music is mainstream uninspired mtv-ish metal. (the title track of iowa being a notable exception)...

Slipknot have always been a little different from the other nu-metal bands. While Korn has gone industrialish, Staind has gone soft rock, and Limp Bizkit have thankfully vanished, Slipknot has become more metal. Not metal enough to count with most here, but enough to keep me happy as I switched from nu-metal to real metal like Death, Slayer, and Amon Amarth.

No they really don't. Pick any album off Slipknot and tell me which one sounds like a Mushroomhead release. None. Just because they have similar amount of members and roles doesn't mean they sound the same.

Very different bands.

Speaking of them, the post 2002 visual-kei scene is filled with slipknot clones. Also the vocalist of Mononofu who is on the archives BTW sounds like Corey talyor with a japanese accent.
