I couldn't find any posts related to this so I'm starting a new one.
I was wondering what you guys use to listen to music and why.
Anythig from software, MP3 players, cellphones, audio components in cars or home.

Personally I use a Sony NW A 1200 8GB HDD Walkman and play music with 128KBPS VBR. I also have music in my cellphone: a Nokia 6300 (which sucks!!! Battery lasts about 3.5 hours in conversations!!!) I've got music with 112KBPS in this piece of crap. My Walkman is 2 years old and now battery lasts for only 5 or 6 hours.

In my PC I use Sony's software: Sonicstage (which kind of sucks too... but less than Winamp, RealPlayer, Quictime, iTunes or WMP) (but maybe my speakers suck harder than all of the above :P).
So what do you guys use? Or you just play it as loud as possible wherever it is possible?

I've been using a 30 gig Zune since the end of 2006 and most of my mp3's are 192-320 kbps; I've changed the in-ear headphones several times, but right now I'm using a pair of cheap Sony earbuds that just happen to sound freakin' amazing.

As for software, I just use the default Zune software; I keep all of my music meticulously organized on my external hard drive, and the Zune software does a good job of keeping things tidy. The Marketplace is nice as well.

I also have these awesome Sony headphones that I use when listening to music on my computer.

Yeah I forgot that... I stole my friend's Ipod earphones and then broke them as fuck... So I used the earphones that came with the Nokia and sound awful... Now I moved to some cheap RCA earphones that do they job...
I want to buy another pair of earphones from an Ipod because I was pleased with their quality and sound.

And for home I use some generic speakers... lol...

I used to have a Creative Zen Micro 6gb until it finally played his swansong some three weeks ago. I used it intensively for more than three years, so he isn't to blame after all. Still, he is missed and I have to go with a crappy 256mb mp3 until I get another one in Christmas, probably another Creative, because the last one more than paid off.

On the computer, I use Win-Amp with a pair of button earphones, because they are the only kind of earphones that fall from my ears, or hurt me. I used to have a proper pair of headphones but they are also broken.

I use my PSP with a 4GB memory stick when I'm out, on the computer I use Creative Mediasource if I'm on Windows and Exaile if I'm on Linux.
In both cases I use a pair of really good in-ear earphones, the earpieces are made from the same stuff as earplugs so they block out outside noise incredibly well.

I have an 80GB Ipod. I bought it just about 2 years ago, and have had very few problems with it. For headphones, I use those Sony....I don't know what you call them. The headphones that wrap around your ears. They're good for running, as they don't fall off or move at all.

I don't use my Ipod much anymore. I don't have a computer. I have about 300 CDs, but only about 3000 songs on my ipod, and after a couple years of the same songs, it's just not as great. I need to get a computer to transfer my music to my ipod.

Winamp to listen to ripped CDs at home is as advanced as my "sound system" gets. :P

Music files are simply superior to CDs. They don't start skipping after multiple listenings, when one goes off you don't have to physically get out of your chair, walk to the cd rack, and get a new one to listen to, etc. It's good to have the actual physical CDs themselves on hand, though, in case of catastophic system crash or some such event.

I'll be honest, I had an ipod at one point, but it just plain sucked. Itunes sucked, and the battery got to where it ran out of juice after ten minutes. What a piece of shit. For "on the go" listening, a simple walkman seems more than sufficient. I can't imagine needing 100 hours of music for a visit to the gym or a plane ride or something.

As for other analog formats, I have mixed feelings. Vinyl is just plan annoying. They are bulky, fragile, and the sound is not so good (why audiophiles prefer vinyl is completely beyond my understanding), and there is an annoying trend lately of young people reverting to vinyl in the face of superior modern formats for no reason other than to look cool, I guess. That's pretty annoying. Cassette tapes, on the other hand, are downright charming. They are cheap to buy, easy to store, and there is a lot of stuff that you can get on tape that simply isn't avaiable on any other format, demos, and promos, and super underground things that haven't been compiled on CD. Tapes also have that wonderful sound to them. They make everything sound static infused and raw, just like good metal should sound! I love tapes!

Btw, if you think I'm holding a double standard concerning the bad sound of vinyl and the bad sound of tapes, you are right, but that's too bad! Ha ha ha!

I use an 80 GB Ipod Classic when im walking to university everyday (I live like 15 minutes from campus). I have a pair of Sony Studio Monitor headphones which are probobly some of the best headphones you can buy IMO. On my computer I just use Itunes. I think it is a good program for playing music although it has a tendency to fuck up the song orders on albums and shit like that. I also had an ipod video but it fucked up...now its basically a storage devise for music.

I've got a black 30 GB Ipod Video and have had it for about 3 years and it still works fine. I use these awesome Sennheiser headphones which sound a million times than the crappy ipod headphones which come with the Ipod.

I have a black 160GB iPod Classic that I use day-to-day. I'm pissed they don't make the 160GB models anymore (only the 120GB version). I also have a black 80GB Video, a broken black 30 GB Video, a white 30GB Video and a black 8GB nano (5th gen). I only spent about $550 on all 5 of them. I prefer my Skullcandy earbuds, but they're constantly falling out, so I use some $15 Sony behind-the-head headphones, and they do the trick nicely.

On my computer I mainly use iTunes to play my music. I would use WinAmp (because iTunes doesn't have FLAC support, and I like the WinAmp interface better), but it's constantly crashing no matter what I do.

When I really want to listen to music, I use my Panasonic SA-AK410 5-Disc stereo system. It packs quite the sound.

I have a 120GB iPod, and used to have a 30GB 5thgen iPod which I installed Rockbox, iPod Linux, and various other mods to. I would much rather use a CD player, but I can not afford CDs and iPods are easier to carry around anyways. I use iTunes on my computer since it is compatible with my iPod and easy to use alongside my external hard drive(which my dad fucking lost :brick:).

I use iTunes for my MacBook, and Zune player for my Vaio desktop. I own a Zune 80gb player so that's why I have a Zune software. Its pretty good player, I'm not gonna lie, but its a hassle because Zune's are not compatible for Mac's so I have to transport the music I downloaded on my MacBook to my Vaio and into my Zune.

I hooked up my MacBook into my stereo in my room, which is about 120w stereo. I use the Zune anywhere from listening at home, to hooking it up to my car and everywhere in between.

I've heard Creative sucks a lot... My girlfriend has one and the first time it hit the ground it would no longer transfer music... It still plays, but not the same...
We were thinking of removing the HD and replacing it with a Flash Card...

BTW I was thinking on getting new earphones RCA sucks... (I bought the $8 so that's probably why...) so what do you have in mind for new earphones?

I only have like $20 so... Please..

iPod classic 120 GB
A bit slow, but the immense memory capacity makes up for it.
As for my stereo at home, I have some Pioneer head unit with various speaker scavenged from the basement.

I used to have a 60gb Creative Zen but it died last month. I had it for 4 years and it served me well.

Now I have a shitty little 512mb thing that I had to borrow off my cousin.

Around $50!!!??? What the fuck I was planning on getting something lower than $12!!! Holy shit!!!

Are they really worth it? I mean do they sound more clear or something? Because I tend to break headphones/earphones cables after 4 or 5 months... And $50 is a lot of money to spend in earphones (at least here :()
I thing it is related to the fact we earn less in small fucking towns forgotten by god... I used to earn US$1 per hour... Like $100 every fifteen days working eight hours a day... Are we slaves or something?

Never had the screen crack on mine, but it's broken for all intents and purposes. It appears to be stuck on lock.

I plan on investing in a 120GB Ipod soon. The Zen is very nice, but a little too small in terms of storage space.

I got a few sound systems I use for various things...

A 15 year old alwa stereo - 3 disk changer , 2 cassette, vinyl deck etc. This has outlasted all my mates more recent and expensive equipment and the sound quality/sound levels massacre its modern counter parts.

Cost 50£

Sony trinitron 27 inch TV with full dolby surround which goes great with the xbox's option to plug an mp3 player in via usb.

cost me 20£ :D

and finally, I have an Archos Gmini xs202. It's a few years old but at the time it was the smallest 20Gig mp3 player on the market and has served me well.

earphones are beyond easy to re-solder, there are only 2 contacts in each bud for a start.

An old set of Altec Lansing 2.1 speakers, or some Sennheiser wireless headphones when I'm at home.

On the go, it's my Zen Vision:M, but I lost the damn silicone things for my earbuds when camping and so haven't listened to it since. In the car I have a Bose sound system and a Panasonic CD player with all my favorite CDs :)

Well, the Headphones I have used to be like 12 dollars, but they raised them to 50. (BASTARDS) So, since I didnt really like them that much I just reasoned that better ones would be more, so I was hoping to get better ones for the same price. If there are cheaper/better ones then obviously I would want them more. But 50 is the max I would spend, as there are $100 dollar headphones Ive seen at Future shop. Which is ridiculous for in-ear ones

Damn man, you've got to run over the border into John McCain's arms for a better life. But yeah, $50 is a bit much. Here are the ones I use, they are probably the next best thing to Sennheisers and the like.

Creative is awesome, I haven't had a single problem with my Vision:M (60GB) for the 2 years I've had it. Whenever I do encounter something that appears to be a bug/malfunction of some sort, I always have it working again in about 5 minutes.

Now what I'd love it one of these babies https://store.archos.com/product_info.php?id=59. 250 GB?? That's insane! I don't even need the Wifi access and all that other fancy stuff, but I can't argue with a portable media player with that kind of memory capability. They're not cheap though...

I use an 80GB Zune for when I'm walking around with a pair of decent Philips earbuds. At home I use the Zune software and Sennheizer HD 212Pro headphones (which are great by the way).

I have that one. 8gb seemed too little so I bought a 8gb SD card too. Sucks that I have to go to Memory Card every time I want to listen to stuff on the Card though.

Would I be correct in saying that people on this website tend to favour other Mp3 player makes over iPod?

I've had an iPod the entire time, so I can't really say. I do think iPods are good, despite the negativity towards them. Mine has never broken, and I only upgraded once, but I got to sell my old one to a friend. My experience with them have been positive so far.

If you guys need cheap durable headphones, I had a pair of cheap $20 Sony headphones that somehow survived like 5 years in outside weather and still worked perfectly fine... well, until they got vacuumed up at least, but otherwise they lasted a good while.

As for me, I do all my music listening on my computer with Winamp, and use a pair of Phillips headphones that my brother bought a few years ago and I'm surprised he hasn't asked for. They could be better, but its a hell of a lot better than using my crappy computer speakers.

I also used to have a Zune which got stolen a few months ago, coincidentally the day RIGHT before I began a 6 or so hour trek to visit family in Mexico. I somehow still have the earphones I used, a pair of Sony sound-isolating ear buds that served me well while they were in use.

Would I be correct in saying that people on this website tend to favour other Mp3 player makes over iPod?

Probably.. I don't like Ipods (don't know why though...) but I've been a fan of Sony and my MP3 player was fine... Battery sucked, and know the HD is dead but... I'm planning on getting another Sony for Christmas (I kind of like this one: http://www.sony.com.mx/corporate?page=p ... Z-A829&g=t).

Hopefully I will get paid enough to buy it... And new earphones too...
