I don't find it creepy at all. If there was a face in the background it would be scary, but hands don't seem to do anything for me.

Oops, I just noticed the hands in the background! I was wondering why people thought it was creepy when it was just a picture of two children.

Quote:
The painting was first displayed in an LA gallery during the early 1970s, at which point it was reviewed by the art critic at the LA Times. It was then purchased by actor John Marley, [1]notable for his role as Jack Woltz in The Godfather. [5]

At some point in time after Marley's death, the painting was said to have come into the possession of a California couple, after being found on the site of an old brewery. [3][4]

The painting appeared on eBay in February 2000. According to the seller, the aforementioned couple, the painting carried some form of curse. Their eBay description claimed that the characters in the painting moved during the night, and that they would sometimes leave the painting and enter the room in which it was being displayed. Included with the listing were a series of photographs that were said to be evidence of an incident in which the female doll character threatened the male character with a gun that she was holding, causing him to attempt to leave the painting[2][3]. A disclaimer was included with the listing absolving the seller from all liability if the painting was purchased. [3][4]

News of the listing was quickly spread by internet users who forwarded the link to their friends or wrote their own pages about it. [3] Some people claimed that simply viewing the photos of the painting made them feel ill or have unpleasant experiences. Eventually, the auction page was viewed over 30,000 times. [3][4]

After an initial bid of $199, the painting eventually received 30 bids and sold for $1,025.00. The buyer, Perceptions Gallery in Grand Rapids, Michigan eventually contacted Bill Stoneham, and related the unusual story of its auction on eBay and their acquisition of it. He reported being quite surprised by all the stories and strange interpretations of the images in the painting. [3][4][2] According to the artist, the object presumed by the eBay sellers to be a gun is actually nothing more than a dry cell battery and a tangle of wires [2].

Stoneham recalls that both the owner of the gallery in which the painting was first displayed, and the art critic who reviewed it, are said to have died within one year of coming into contact with the painting. [1]

That's what I thought it was about, also. Having said that, the pictures do have a creepy undertone, but they're still quite tame.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. I know this scene, and I wish I'd never seen it before. The jerking and convulsing God does while disemboweling itself makes it seems as if it is receiving pleasure through disembowelment. And then the shit streaming down his legs, and onto his feet into one big foetid pile... I never want to see this again.

I found that scene from Begotten really cool, actually. I mean, the whole movie sucks because it's 70 minutes of the same thing, and you get bored near the mid; but it's cool for what it is. That scene with God disemboweling himself, it's like Burzum, but on film.

And there's also this!

I think "Hands Resist Him" is pretty creepy, as well as its supposedly "haunted" nature. I don't like that baby doll at all.

There's also a "sequel" to the painting, which shows the boy all grown up and all these hands n shit behind the glass.

I think the one reason as to why Hands Resist Him is so goddamn creepy is because he's behind a black window with just hands. The style of the painting too, is fucking haunting. I can't put my finger on it. Just, something about it, is just fucking haunting.

It's "creepy" because the boy looks relatively normal, while everything else is obviously not.

I can see why it's creepy, but you guys are taking it to the extreme. It doesn't strike any cord within me.

Begotten creeped me though.

The first picture is somewhat creepy. The combined effects of the little girl, especially her pitch black eyes, as well as the hands, create a pretty scary atmosphere. I also like how the thing the girl's holding mixes with the window's wooden frame to create the impression that she's holding a gun in the first split second you see the picture.

What's with the gray disk above the boy's head though?

The other pictures are kind of creepy too.

You do live on Earth, correct? Surely you've looked up at the sky at nighttime and noticed that particular gray disk looming up above you.

No we won't, we just saw a picture of the painting! I'd like to have a look at any hidden clauses in the document stating that my death is imminent upon seeing this photo even though it is not the painting itself.

As for the image, kind of weird but in a nice surreal way. I like it but I wouldn't put it up in my house.

Curse or no curse, I'd rather not have it hanging on a wall at night. I've got an over-active imagination. Though I suppose it's neat to dream up horror stories and awful B-movies in the shower.

I don't know, at first sight it creeped me right the fuck out, and now I look at it again and it doesn't seem as creepy anymore.

Still a disturbing image, I don't know why. Its mostly the girl doll and her blackened eyes and such, and the expression on the boys face. It took me a second to even notice the hands at all.

Anyways, since we're talking about hands and creepy images...

I suppose it could be the moon but it looks a little odd, being in the reflection of the window so precisely and everything. The thought didn't occur to me though.

Ugh...that is by far the most disturbing thing in this thread. I could barely read that 'strange creatures' thread or whatever it was called because every time I would get to the page with this image on it, I would want to vomit. Seriously, I don't know what it is about this image, but that's cringe-inducing.

The remora-fingers picture isn't disgusting or disturbing at all. It's a fucking photoshop of an animal mouth onto fingers. It doesn't even look real.

So would I, sadly I cannot even find a print of it. :(

It would be an interesting conversation piece for new friends/neighbors.
