Yes, and myself as well as several other popular MA reviewers work for there now.

I first came across metalcrypt several years ago, before I was acquainted with this site. I loved it immediately, particularly the reviews. At the time they had a smaller subset of reviews called "Shit List Reviews," reserved basically for the absolute worst of the worst, and it was fuckin hilarious, I used to read it over and over and laugh every time. They took it away a while ago, and I asked about it, but never saw it re-instated. And yeah, the forums are not even nearly as active as here, but it's nice to have a change of pace on a different site.

I vaguely remember the Shit List, but I joined right before it went down, so sadly I don't recall much of it.

Was the "Shit List" reviews for terrible albums, or terrible reviews? Either way, that's pretty cool.

It was for terrible albums, and boy there were some doozies. Granted, I enjoy some of the scathing reviews on this site, but it was nice that they had theirs consolidated into one little spot.

www.talkmusicforums.com is a small site that has a very dedicated metal following.

Many of the metal review sites like www.metalreviews.com have decent communities.

www.metal-forum.com

It has been rather quite there lately but at its prime it was a well disciplined and friendly place. I am MetalMilitia there.

www.anus.com is a great site for those interested in the roots of metal, the forums are full of topics on philosophy, music theory, and metal in general.

however, if intelligent discussion of the world around you and how it relates to the spirit of metal is not your thing, you might not like it.

Cheers, this one looks pretty decent :)

EDIT: looking back, I really miss the darklyrics forums...
did anyone else go there?

Yea I used to post on that forum all the time. Aside from the randomness of the people there and the metalcore forum it shared space with, I found a lot of new bands there.

While I can't speak for ANUS, I can say it's true that music which is advocated there has been rigorously critiqued and is the best that the death and black metal genre has to offer.

No one at ANUS owns metal, but the people who run the site lived through metals birth so they are defensive and critical of anything that falls short of the best.
