I always thought it was a shame that Damon Hill's son gave up on single seaters - he was coming on pretty well, and we could have had Hill vs. Schumacher again if he'd gotten around to F1

THE FINAL GRAZZIE RAGAZZI HAS BEEN SAID...

Spoiler: show

As a Ferrari fan who grew up with M. Schumi and Kimi Raikkonen's epic 2007 title, watching Vettel winning with STR in 2008 was incredible. I followed him quietly since then hoping to see him become champion. Even in 2012 when it seemed that the relentless Fernando Alonso had grabbed the championship he pulled an amazing comeback.

I cried when he won in Sepang. My favorite driver driving for my favorite team. What could go wrong?

Well first of all Ferrari made a lot of mistakes with the car. 2016 has to be the worst Ferrari car in the hybrid era because it was hyped as no other. 2017 and 2018 were the title fighting years but the car just didn't have that slight edge from Mercedes.

Of course no one can deny Seb' s mistakes. In 2018 at Hockenheim Vettel was broken inside. He had failed his favorite team. And it all went downhill from there.

And we cannot forget that Ferrari had to fight against the most organized, well developed, ruthless and masterclass of a team, R&D and driving : Mercedes. Lewis and the boys are doing a phenomenal job.

So what gives? Did Vettel failed. In a way yes. Just like Alonso. Did he fight? Bloody hell he did! He didn't wave those flags for nothing, he didn't grab the camera at Monza in 2016 for nothing, he didn't have the logo of Scuderia showing him the booting screen of his steering wheel for the show. Along with Raikkonen he is the biggest fan of Ferrari.

Danke Seb danke... here is to another great journey with Aston Martin.

By points allowed, this is about to be literally the worst defense in Raiders history. Absolutely embarrassing.

I love this! The NHL has decided to judge offside like the NFL does, that is, the line is a plane. Compared to hockey’s current extremely-hard-to-ascertain standard of maintaining contact with the line. So, a hockey player who is straddling the blue line in midstep will now be ruled onside.

World Junior hockey championship is back, and as usual at this tournament, the goalie for the bottom-feeding team puts in a truly Herculean effort. This year, it’s Austria’s Sebastian Wraneschitz, who after only two games has saved 119 of 133 shots; including an incredible 61/65 tonight against Sweden.
There is no sufficient emoji for this, but  comes pretty close! (Somehow he was not voted player of the game, which is baffling).

Any baseball fans around here? Anyone in awe of what the Padres have pulled off in the last couple days? Jesus Christ, that team is going to be a problem.

Crazy that the best moves of the New York Yankees have made in the last year are the following:

1. Signing Cole
2. Having Boston trade Betts to the NL West
3. Having Tampa trade Snell to the NL West

I try to keep up with it as much as I can although I do keep up with American football, basketball and hockey the most. It is unreal what San Diego has done the last week or so. As a Cubs fan, I'm ashamed we let Yu Darvish go when, in reality, we could've built around him for the long haul. I have a feeling that since we've let several people go and Theo left, it's gonna be another VERY LONG, gloomy couple of decades for us Cubs fans.

Way to go Seahawks. Win the division for the first time since 2016... only to get annihilated in the wild card game to the team you beat to win the division.

Anyone recommend any good sports cartoonists in their country ?

We have the mighty David Squires - covers British & Australian football - my favourite of his runs was the period in 2018-2019 in which he decided that Jose Mourinho was actually an emo kid in a football manager's body...

eg:

https://www.theguardian.com/football/series/david-squires-on/2018/aug/10/all

https://www.theguardian.com/football/ng-interactive/2018/oct/23/david-squires-on-jose-mourinho-big-day-back-at-chelsea-manchester-united-football-cartoon

& my Blues got slaughtered by Colorado in a shutout. Even .500 after 2 games so we'll see what happens but I'm guessing we have an average year. Nothing great and nothing special but at the same time I do have a bit of faith.

Also, lost 20 on a NFL playoff bet at work. Drew from a hat and got the Rams. 280 was the pot.

You guys also played a really good Maple Leafs team so I wouldn't count it as a horrible lose.

Think you guys will make the playoffs?

You know, with the all-divisional schedule, I wouldn’t count anyone out of playoff contention. Even in the three straight years of near-last place, the Sens always played the Habs and Leafs seriously. We don’t have as much experience against the western Canadian teams; but Edmonton looks like Toronto, and Winnipeg has stagnated... so if 28-30 wins would squeeze into fourth place, it’s anyone’s chance :)

UPDATE: Just checked it up, and last year Ottawa posted a stellar 4-1-2 record against Canadian teams. That projects to 70pts in a 50 game season, plus whatever we can get out of Winnipeg who we didn’t play last year. So I’m updating my above half-ass response, and will flat out state: Senators in the playoffs this year!

So, it's the Buccanneers vs the Packers, and the Bills against Kansas city. I'm surprised that Buffalo made it this far; that Wyoming guy at QB is surprisingly good, but it's a gonna be a tough order getting by Kansas City; even in the unlikely event that the Wyoming Kid and the Bills somehow do it, they'll probably end up being the second or third team in NFL history to lose five super bowls. The NFC is probably going to be the most interesting; two legendary qb's going at it, and although I doubt either one will be able to beat the Chiefs in the super bowl I think it will still be a heck of a game, and my bet would go to Aaron Rodgers and Packers in that one, simply because they appear to be the better team.

The Chiefs have to get past Buffalo first and there is roughly a 0% chance that happens if Mahomes doesn't clear concussion protocol by Sunday. I have no idea what the likelihood of him playing is, but even with Mahomes in, the Bills should keep it competitive.

I'm just happy Brady has made it to the NFC Championship so all of the lingering "Brady is only good because of Belichick" people can slowly crawl back into their holes. I'm a little torn on the NFC this year, because I'd really like to see Rodgers get another ring, so I'm really just rooting for NFC over AFC regardless of the matchup. This was a great year of football and all of the potential super bowl matchups are enticing.

IIHF has removed Minsk as co-host of this year’s men’s world hockey championship, due to the ongoing violent repression by Belarus dictator Lukashenko:
https://tass.com/sport/1247445/amp
That’s good, but I don’t understand why they are looking for a new co-host instead of just shifting the whole thing to Latvia. That would be much better, reducing travel since Covid is still around...

Earlier in the season, I'd have said there's no chance that anyone beats KC with the chips down unless the Chiefs shit the bed, but I think every remaining team is playing a level offensively that they all have a real chance of winning in a shootout. This is a great last 4 if you like entertaining football

That’s the last time I trust Bing search for sports stats! Earlier I was optimistic when my search “2019-20 Ottawa Senators” showed a 4-1-2 record against Canadian teams. But apparently that list was incompete, and the Sens were a quite dreadful 4-7-3 against Canadian teams :( So I’ve very quickly gone from “this team reaches above itself for rivalry matchups, could be a surprising good season” to “this team generally bites, could be a long season of the same losses over and over again”.

The Lakers do look good but I have this weird gut feeling that someone is going to upset them on the road to the championship. Could just me having gas but I could also be correct. :o On the other side of the NBA, my Thunder are rebuilding so the 6-8 record will only get a bit better but a whole lot worse.

NFL picks for today (in a shocker): I'll take Buffalo over Kansas City with the score of 31-28 and Tampa over Packers 28-24.

St. Louis Blues are looking pretty decent at 3-2 but it's going to be a touch road ahead with Vegas and Minnesota on the schedule so much.

Finally, Poirier with the WIN OF HIS LIFE! Connor on the downside of things and that's what happens when you slack off, change teams and such. I'm glad someone finally put him in his place.

I thought both Conor and Dustin looked great in that fight. Conor hit Dustin with a few heavy-handed shots that could easily have stunned him, but Poirier did well to keep composed and continued to implement his game plan. Those leg kicks were nasty and McGregor wasn't checking any of them. There is no one in the history of the UFC that has been as effective at pressuring his opponents without the threat of a takedown as Conor is. I've never seen a counter-striker with his level of aggression in the octagon and although he lost this fight, it's worked for him far more than it hasn't. I know people are happy to see him lose, but the disrespect for his abilities as a fighter is ridiculous. His risky and aggressive style is what earned him both of his championship belts.

Given it's the 87th minute, I can safely say - I wish I'd put a tenner on Sheffield beating United. 20/1 in most places. Damn

Same here. I actually think he's an amazing golf player, so this incident really hurts. Hopefully he recovers from his injuries so he can continue playing golf.

Shit is happening in the NHL’s Canadian Division! For the first time this weird, baseball-style season, the Ottawa Senators sweep a series. Beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-2(OT) on Sunday, then 5-4(SO) last night - with Josh Norris and Tim Stutzle both scoring on their first ever NHL shootout attempts
https://www.tsn.ca/video/nhl-canadiens- ... so~2145857
https://www.nhl.com/senators/video/reca ... /c-7615908

On a sad note, this has led the Habs to fire coach Claude Julien, who I’ve always liked. Also, come on Montreal! Yes you’re the first to lose a series to the last-place Sens, and that’s kind of embarrasing, but maybe, y’know, Ottawa’s not really that bad? Just sayin’.

One good thing about cheering for a heavily rebuilding team - there will be a lot of firsts. Like Sunday, Joey Daccord posts his first NHL win against the Leafs
PS lol at the Raiders. Commitment to Turbulence continues!

Anyone here into NCAA March Madness?

I have never watched a full NBA game in my 36 years on this planet, but I am pretty crazy about college basketball. Every year the tournament rolls around, my dad and I set up 2 televisions in one room and watch all 67 games of the tournament. Gonzaga is the obvious favourite at 26-0, but this year will be crazier than ever with the possibility of forfeits over COVID concerns and alternate teams being subbed in.

It's possible a #1 seeded team could have to drop out before Friday, which would place Louisville (13-7) in a #1 slot against a #16. We could see some real cinderella's at this year's dance.

I had like six paragraphs typed out detailing the background of Ryan Pace's tenure with Chicago and all the nonsense with the QB position, but I deleted it all because I'm just so, so tired.

Like, it's open contempt at this point, right?

I used to follow it more when I was in college and haven't really followed any team other than UConn this year, so I sort of blindly filled out my bracket this year. I have Gonzaga going pretty far, but they've made it to the Final Four exactly one time ever, so I can't find any justification in choosing them as the winner. They spend the whole year beating up on the other teams in their conference and inflate their record. Going undefeated and beating a few ranked teams is impressive, but they tend to be overrated more often than not.

It'll be nice to be working from home for it this year, because I can have it up on my second screen and not have to constantly look over my shoulder to make sure no one at work notices.

It's possible a #1 seeded team could have to drop out before Friday, which would place Louisville (13-7) in a #1 slot against a #16. We could see some real cinderella's at this year's dance.

I feel the same way about Gonzaga. They seem strong, for sure, but if they didn't win a few years ago with the team they had with Rui Hachimura, I can't see this team getting it done. I'm going with Illinois. I liked them before the Big 10, and their win over Ohio St in overtime cemented the pick for me. Are you in a pool with a cash reward?

Bears took Dalton huh?

q) How do you get Andy Dalton off the football field?
A) With a spatula

Q) What do you call a redheaded pancake?
A) Andy Dalton

and the zinger...
Q) What do Yer Mama and Andy Dalton have in common?
a) They're always lying on their back with guys on top of them.

We always used to make those kind of jokes about that guy... I'm not impressed with the Bears choice of quarterbacks, in other words.

I want to see Gonzaga go all the way just once, but I have them picked to lose in the second round. They always seem like one of those teams that over-achieves in the regular season but under achieves in the post season.

Anyone here into NCAA March Madness?

I have never watched a full NBA game in my 36 years on this planet, but I am pretty crazy about college basketball. Yeah, I've somehow found myself in 4 different pools for money, so I think I may hedge and switch up my picks for each one. As of now, I have Illinois as my winner, but I haven't seen a single second of any of their games his year. I'm just going off of their record in a stacked conference, and they seemed to have finished the season strong. I'm really tempted to pick UConn to win it all in one of my brackets, because the last time I did it, I picked right and was something like 99.9th percentile on ESPN. Too bad they don't have a guy like Shabazz/Kemba anymore to run the offense through, so they'll be lucky to make it past the first round.

I've been an MMA fan since UFC 1 live in 93 (I'm also a brown belt in BJJ and cross train in other arts) and I'd have to disagree with you about no one ever being on Connor's level as a counter striker.

Anderson Silva didn't always play the role of counter striker, but he did often did and i think he was a FAR superior striker to Connor, and Israel Adesanya is also a higher level striker than Connor.

There are also several other fighters who sometimes but didn't always play the role of counter striker that were on his level like Machida, Liddell, Crocop and from a purely technical standpoint even Piotr Yan, and probably others I can't think of at the moment.

Connor is great, but it's now become evident I think that he's never going to rule the division again.

155 is just SO stacked right now and it's practically a tossup as to who could take over between guys like Poirer, Chandler, Gaethje, Charles Olivieria and Islam Machachev, and that's IF Khabib doesn't come back, which I recently heard that he might, and then there's also guys like Connor, Lee, Ferguson, RDA, etc.

Machachev looks like almost a carbon copy of Khabib and they train together and Khabib thinks Machachev will be champ next and after his last performance I don't doubt that he could be champ.

My personal favorite, being a BJJ guy myself, is Olivieria, who doesn't get NEARLY enough respect, but he should after what he did to Ferguson, and now it looks like if everything goes as planned that Chandler is going to fight Gaethje which should be an absolute WAR.

I've got Gaethje in that one personally, though it could go either way. Many people are super high on Chandler after his last win and yes, he's a great fighter, but he took some bad losses in Bellator, especially to Patricio Pitbull who TKOd him and who once fought at 145lbs, so if the fight stays on the feet I think Gaethje's going to get the better of him.

I think we could potentially be seeing the title change hands a few times, but the 2 guys I'm most looking at to be at the very top are Oliviera and Machachev in my personal opinion.

Well... even if the provincial government and Ontario Hockey League comes through on their statement today that a return to play agreement could happen “by the end of the month”, they’d have to start immediately in April to even squeeze in 24 games (and no playoffs?) if they want to to join the Quebec and Western Leagues at the Memorial Cup - wherever that may be.
But I’m not holding my breath, unlike Commissioner David Branch who has punted even discussing hub cities until after the return is approved. At this point, the best I can hope for is that his shameful dithering won’t cost OHL kids a year of eligibility and potentially the advancement of their hockey careers.
