Ottawa 5 Nashville 4 OT. Congratulations to Marcus Hogberg for his first NHL win
The Sens made it much more difficult than it should have been, bumbling away a 4-1 lead, but way to go Hoggie for holding on!

I think it is safe to say without controversy, after watching the latest Patriots debacle, that Brady is officially washed up and should retire while he still has a shred of dignity. It has been clear all season, and especially the last few weeks: The Patriots are a shell of their former selves and will never reclaim any glory as long as Brady's physical skills continue to decline. He has nothing else to prove: Six super bowl rings, nine appearances, most of the NFL passing records- He needs to just know when to walk away.

It will probably be the Saints vs the Ravens in the Super Bowl. That's fine; just anyone but the fucking Seahawks.

The Saints blew it. Even with the questionable Dalvin Cook TD, we had plenty of opportunity. Onward to next year.

I'm trying to remember the classic Bulls line-up and I only remember Jordan, Pippin and Rodman, I don't want to google because someone remembers the rest instantly?

Thanks I knew they had a Yugoslavian who wasn't Vlade Divac but I didn't remember the name, and reading the names I remember Luc Longley and Steve Kerr as well. Damn it's really been a while.

There were sort of two classic lineups. The first run was Jordan/Pippen/Horace Grant/Bill Cartwright/BJ Armstrong. When Jordan came back from his baseball hiatus/secret gambling suspension, the lineup was Jordan/Pippen/Rodman/Longley/Ron Harper with Kukoč as the 6th man and usually in the lineup in crunch time.

Canada narrowly - very narrowly - beat Russia to win World Junior Hockey gold  Thank God for that poorly positioned camera that kept the puck from escaping Canada’s defensive zone for a penalty!
And I’ve never heard something as unimportant as arena music get so much attention. Here’s what they played for all penalty calls, home and away
What do you all think? Like it, hate it? I liked it. Yes the goofiness of it was anti-climactic, but it was fun.

Only two months after the heartbreaking end of the Ottawa Fury FC franchise in the United Soccer League, there might be professional soccer to be seen this year in Canada's beautiful capital after all. According to rumours, La Liga club Atlético Madrid might invest in a team that would be the eighth franchise to take part in the Canadian Premier League. The rumoured team name could be Atlético Capital. An official announcement is expected to be made next week. Let's cross our fingers that everything will work out in time. If this project saw the light of day this season, I would certainly attend several home games as well. I had the occasion to attend a CPL game between Winnipeg and York last season and it was great!

That’s wonderful news kluseba :-D Fury games were always great fun, and a Canadian league not having a team in Ottawa was a bizarre situation not going to last forever. I was also very impressed with the inaugural season of CPL; and considering that all seven teams would have ranked in the upper half of USL attendance, soccer coming back to Lansdowne will be more boisterous than ever!

Had to drop in here to remind everyone that THE CHIEFS ARE IN THE SUPERBOWL thanks for your time. Feeling really confident as we might be watching the best qb of all time emerge wearing #15 for us! The dude can do anything literally anything. Coming back from 24-0 in the playoffs is almost unheard of. Look for me in the gutter Sunday somewhere around 7 PM west coast time wearing my jersey!

Pat Mahomes is playing at a level I haven't seen since 2010/11 Aaron Rodgers, with the most weapons I've seen on a single offense since the Greatest Show on Turf, with one of the better play designers/callers in NFL history on the sideline calling the shots.

But...

"Defense wins championships." This is, of course, an oversimplification, but it does pick at the edges of some home truths about what we see and where prognostication often goes awry.

1. Offensive prowess is sexy, flashy, and highly visible, so its value tends to be overrated.

2. The inherent advantage of defense over offense tends to be underrated or even unacknowledged.

3. Extra time to prepare almost always favors defenses over offenses.

We've had about the same time to prepare, and our defense ended up #8 overall. Pretty awesome considering how the first few weeks went. I don't think anything you said is wrong, just the defenses are comparable while our offense simply outclasses theirs. I'm still nervous but confident. I have no idea how #64 Mike Pennell was sitting at home waiting for us to call him in like week 7 but he has helped save our season with run defense. If we can handle Henry i think we can handle Mostert.

Kansas City had the 14th ranked defense in the NFL in 2019, while San Francisco was 2nd overall. The Chiefs were absolutely terrible against the run—29th out of 32 teams in the league, and their efficiency against the pass likely reflects playing with big leads that forced teams into one-dimensional play calling. These are not even remotely comparable defenses, the gap between the defensive performances of the two teams is actually substantially greater than the gap between the offenses (KC had the 3rd ranked offense, SF was 7th overall), statistically speaking, though in both cases the chasm is a yawning one. QB play is a trump card in the NFL, so there is a silver lining there, but I'd consider this game basically a pick 'em situation. KC is laying 1.5, so I'd actually consider SF the better value pick from a betting standpoint, but this is relative. I don't think either team is a good value outright, and I'll be looking mostly at prop bets myself.

I'm a degenerate gambler and this is basically how I make my money right now, since guiding has become a socially awkward proposition while I transition.

I must have seen some articles talking about rankings since week 8 or something sorry. I read a lot of biased Chiefs media! I looked up scoring D and they allowed 19.4 a game and we allowed 19.2. Again our early performance seems like a different defense altogether too so I am not feeling we are outclassed by much. Then again I looked up scoring offense and the 49ers actually are higher haha so yeah close call here. Hoping Dee Ford goes easy on his old buddies. I always liked him and people who want to discount his career here for 1 penalty are fucking morons.

You might have also been looking at "Total Defense" stats, which are simply counting stats (yardage) averaged out on a per game basis. Analytics and advanced metrics have revolutionized how we actually look at statistical measures of play.

What an entertaining Super Bowl!

Congratulations to Kansas City and especially to Doctor Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, pride of Quebec and Canada!

Let me just say as someone from KC, I'm fucking ecstatic. Much like the Royals 2015 World Series, it was stressful and down to the wire.

As a member of The Very Flat Place, I personally don't care that KC won. But lots of people seemed to be really excited about it so I'm happy for them.

Coaching was one major decision factor, yes. I was really trying to figure out what that idiot was thinking there before halftime. Was he trying to run out the clock? Or trying to score quickly before the half? Or do both at once? Nobody could figure it out. Yes, that bogus pass interference penalty should NOT have been called (The Chiefs got all of the homer calls/non-calls their way all game long for some reason) but it was not the deciding factor- they would have barely had time for a field goal, but it would not have made a difference in the final score.

The 4th quarter- WHY abandon the run game when it was a crucial time to protect the lead and grind out yards, and it has worked all game long (including this one?)

The OTHER Major deciding factor? Richard Sherman forgetting how to tackle, and the entire secondary forgetting which receiver to cover. When you have a receiver race 40 yards downfield with no defender within 10 yards of him- that's something you see from undisciplined college teams, not pro teams playing in the Super Bowl.

Good for Kansas City I guess.

It's kind of ironic that Shanahan did what Reid has done previously in the playoffs, blowing a lead with bad clock management, but our D line was playing much better in the 2nd half and I don't think they would have had as much luck running as people are saying. Did they blow it? Partially. Did KC earn it? Bet your fuckin ass man. 3 consecutive playoff games overcoming 10+ point deficits is pretty impressive.

A lot easier to play defense when you know what's coming. There is pretty much no sport where The Turtle is a good strategy for holding a lead, except maybe soccer.

This is the part I wish people would focus on. A rookie QB took his team to the AFC championship. His second year? Super Bowl ring. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid deserve this.

He sat as a rookie. This was his third year in the League.

Good to see Andy finally get his ring. I also lol'd at Sherman running his mouth all season, seeing how a few blown plays on his end turned the tide of the game.

I've never been much of a fan of Andy Reid's coaching style since it's been more or less proven not to work in clutch situations judging by how often he's aaaaaalmost won in his career, but I will say that him answering the on-field question of "What are you going to do now?" after winning with "I'm gonna go get the biggest cheeseburger you've ever seen" has instantly made him my hero.

Congrats, Chiefs fans. I've been calling CHIEFS YEAR as a sorta-meme for like six or seven years now so it's good to see it finally pay off. This is the first SB since San Fran v Baltimore where I've actually liked both teams involved so I'm glad this is how it shook out. Didn't actually watch the game because I work overnight and desperately needed to sleep during the time it was on, but it sounds like I missed a good one.

Yeah, I know. I remember him early in the preseason saying "Oh yeah, the 49ers will win the Super Bowl this year!" A bold statement considering they only won 4 games the previous year but... to his credit, the 49ers did at least play in the Super Bowl.

But, to his DIS-credit, Sherman's poor play was one of the main reasons they lost it.

Do other cities that win the superbowl regularly have parades and whatnot every time? They're planning a big on down by union station tomorrow. The hype around the city is real. Despite all the city elites describing KC as a city on the rise with a growing arts scene and stuff like that, it's always been a pretty bleak place on the ground level from my perspective. It's amazing how much this has lifted regular folks' moods. It's nice.
