Cats play the Demons this weekend, so you've only got a couple more days to be happy. :P

It could be, but I wouldn't bet money on it. Even though the Demons have won the last two and Geelong have lost the last two, it's being played at Skilled Stadium, and it's second v second-last. I just can't see it happening.

I hope the Swans can defeat the Blues this round, but I'm not confident of that, either. Swans are only a mathematical chance of making the top eight, and even if they did make it, they'd be nothing more than cannon fodder for the stronger teams.

At least my mighty Dragons are top of the NRL. :D

No making that bet would be stupid lol, as far as the swans go this week, I'll probably be tipping Carlton. My Beloved Dons have their work cut out for them this week with the Bulldogs as well, although i think we still have a good chance of winning as we've been playing pretty good lately.

I don't know, dude. The 'Dogs are playing some exceptional footy, despite going down by a point to Collingwood (a game I missed, unfortunately). Essendon are a chance, but I'd tip the Bulldogs. But you know, anything could happen.

Unfortunately I have to agree with Mikey. I'd love Essendon to win, but I can't see the Bulldogs dropping it. They haven't got much in the way of defence, which was terribly exposed during the Collingwood game, but their attack would more than make up for it against a weaker team like the Bombers, sadly.

The Rangers would make the most sense for Toronto to trade Halladay to. They have the most coveted of near ready top line prospects that the Jays would want and the Rangers sure could use Roy's arm but I think he would veto a trade to Texas.

The Phils signed Pedro. I hope he at least has something left.. and hopefully, they're not done looking (at Halladay).

I wouldn't steak my hopes to Pedro too much if I were the Phils. He did settle for the kind of money that Tom Glavine turned down from the Braves before retiring.

I don't think they're expecting anything more than a guy who can come in, start once or twice, go to the bullpen and hopefully get a couple guys out. They're only drowning a million into the guy so they're not really losing anything if he does a Mets-repeat.

He would be an excellent set up man. But I'm sure he can do a spot start in the playoffs as long as he won't be expected to go more than 5 innings of work.

Any NRL fans see the referee Tony de las Heras get knocked unconscious by Tonie Carroll's knee? It was a sickening collision, even though it was completely unintentional. I don't think I've seen such a collision to a referee since I've been following the league.

My god, Richmond completely blew it against North Melbourne! I only watched up until just before half-time, but they had a very handy lead, and I thought they'd run away with it, but the Kangaroos came back and it ended up a draw. The Tigers only kicked two goals in the second half...now there's a capitulation if I ever saw one.

St. Kilda have won 16 in a row now. I would laugh if they won every single game in the competition...but lost the grand final. That would be cruel.

We came within mere millimetres of knocking St. Kilda over with half our starting 18 out. If anybody will do that, it's us. But, I see the Bulldogs being the surprise packet in the finals. Watching us play against the Demons on Saturday, I believe the Dogs have taken the game we invented and are currently doing it much better than Geelong on all levels.

Much as I hate to say it, I've got the Bulldogs pegged for 2010 premiers, if not 2009.

And that footage of Tony de las Heras getting destroyed is a really sad sight to see. I know it wasn't intentional, but it's still unfortunate to see a bloke getting knocked down like that.

Bulldogs are a soft cunt team. Good to see you're picking up AFL Mikey, do you like it more than NRL?

Although I wanna see Geelong win this year, I think StKFC have the complete package to win the flag

Why do you think the Bulldogs are a soft team? They're much better now than what they used to be a couple of years ago, languishing at the bottom of the table. I would love to see them win a premiership soon, but I think this year belongs to Geelong and St. Kilda.

I never hated the AFL, but I still enjoy the NRL more, sorry. Unfortunately, the AFL gets poor exposure here - the Friday night games are played at 11pm or so, when I'm either in bed or out getting plastered. Sydney papers, such as The Daily Telegraph, have pages upon pages of NRL news, where the AFL will get one page (or a few more, in the case of Barry Hall retiring). It's really sad that the two sports can't co-exist in tandem, but that's the stubborn Sydney crowd for you. My dad hates the AFL, by the way, and once said I was a "traitor" for watching it over the NRL. :P

I'm getting more and more into AFL, and I enjoy the game, but I just wish it had more exposure here.

By the way, a western Sydney AFL team = worst idea in history. Give the team five years and it'll fold from simply having no support.

immortalshadow: Yeah, that footage is painful to watch. I hope that poor referee gets better soon. I saw three comments on the story on dailytelegraph.com, and all three were bagging out the referee, saying he should've got out of the way, and his inexperience let him down. I think one of them said he deserved it. What the hell? The poor bloke gets crunched unconscious, and they say he deserves it? I couldn't disagree more, and I wish him a speedy recovery. Referees, even though they make wrong decisions, have a hard enough job as it is, and they don't have fan support at the best of times. He'll be back.

Toronto will probably end up keeping Halladay now unless the Phillies relent in giving up Kyle Drabek and all the rest of their top prospects. No one else seems to have anybody worth giving up to get him.

i cant figure out how i feel about the halladay thing. love the guy, want to see him win a championship but im a diehard jays fan and having the best pitcher in the league is pretty sweet. do you know what the jays were asking for in the deal the mets rejected?

Yes. The Mets have been officially told by the Jays that they don't have any package they would accept for Roy. And what's more, I doubt the Mets would be willing to give up so much or gut their system to get Halladay when they are nine games out of first anyhow. It'd be better for them to wait until he opts out to become a free agent. The Amazins' would be better off looking for a lesser arm like Erik Bedard or Doug Davis.

Absolutely. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Tasmania is the way to go for the 18th team. Some of the excuses the AFL are cracking:

- Population. Tasmania has only 500,000 people in the state. That's 500,000 in which to draw support from - both Geelong and North Melbourne have smaller areas than these.

- Sponsorship. Tasmania supposedly won't get a sponsorship, even with the history of teams like North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL, or Central Coast Mariners in the A-League, getting enormous jersey sponsorships from huge companies like Toyota. Although I think this argument died in the arse when Mars announced a three-year sponsorship.

- Location undecided. It'll be hard to decide whether the team will be based in Hobart or Launceston, and that they don't want to split games (e.g. 6 in Hobart, 6 in Launceston) - despite the fact that this was exactly what they planned to do with the Western Sydney team, playing 9 games at Showgrounds/Homebush and 3 at Manuka in the ACT.

- History. New South Wales is a league state. Tasmania was second only to Victoria in taking up the AFL code.

Nobody would support a Western Sydney team and not only would the Tassie population jump on an AFL team overnight, but I'm sure there'd be expat Tassies on the mainland who'd follow them as well. The franchise has even said it won't be competing with Gold Coast or Western Sydney, and will be aiming to take a 19th spot (or an 18th assuming somebody like North Melbourne folds).

A video of that exhibition game where Lebron gets dunked on by some developmental league scrub was leaked much to Nike's dismay. So fucking what? It's an exhibition game anyhow and a player like Lebron is not going to play defense or play hard for that game.

"Unfortunately, the ex UFC heavy weight champion who was sit to face Fedor Emelianenko August 1 on Affliction tested positive for a banned substance. Barnett is a well known metal fan and even came out with his ring music as Bolt Thrower's No guts No glory. He sports the Bolt Thrower logo on his trunks as well. I actually met him this year at Maryland death fest and he's a great dude. This event kind of saddened me alot because I really thought he would be the one to take it to Fedor."

taken from a locked thread.

is it really shocking that a MMA fighter is on the juice? what are UFC/Affliction/whatever's drug testing policy anyways?

as for fedor.. that guy is the fucking MAN. so mysterious and calm. i think i have a mancrush. i seen a special on him where they show him training in some remote village in russia i think.. just beating the shit out of a huge tractor tire with a sledge hammer and doing other insane things. too bad he isnt considered undefeated, his 'loss' was a fucking JOKE.

The UFC is the type of sport that won't generate too much contraversy from 'roids. It's that kind of league. If someone pops positive in the NFL(a real sport btw IMO) it's not too big a deal either because of the positions and size of players at those positions even if it's still lllicit there. Boxing? Different story.

The Red Hose couldn't have picked a worse time to go on a bender. Now the Yankees are in the driver's seat. The Bombers better not land Halladay either or I will quit following baseball.

It's too bad Manny had to turn out be such a shirtbird for Boston at the end of time there. Did you see that pinch slam he hit? He's a fantastic hitter. A butcher in the outfield to be sure but that guy is one helluva bat.
