Seconded! Although I do prefer Diamanda Galas's version, since it doesn't have the "happy ending" that Billie used.
Lots of people committed suicide to that song too, apparently, including the composer.

the version by the Coffinshakers is much more depressing.

Anybody who has heard it will agree that Lou reed's entire album Berlin is the most suicidal thign ever.

It sapped my will to live.

If they're going by numbers then of course Country is the most suicidal, because it has the most listeners. If anyone knows if those numbers are relative to fan base then I'd say it's an interesting statistic, but as of now I imagine it's just someone not knowing how to do statistics.

Then again, I do listen to a fair amount of country and I will say it is a fairly depressing genre in general. It talks continuously about all the bad stuff in peoples lives while at the same time making the music sound just as depressing as the lyric subject. Sure, there is plenty of upbeat country, but it certainly isn't in the majority.

Well, I guess country is a pretty depressed genre, what with all the dead dogs, leaving wives and broken down trucks.

I agree. It's depressing generally.

The first song that comes to mind about suicide is Deeper Down by My Dying Bride. Aarons vocals at the end sound like he's about to end it all. But on the whole for most suicidal music would be country.

How about the blues? There's a whole genre dedicated to the melancholy.

suicide can be (and normally is) a result of extreme idiocy.

Fixed. :annoyed:

Yes it is an extreme idiocy I never said it wasn't, however I think it was kinda childish of you to edit what I said. Tell me how many people that have committed suicide were not depressed or have any mental illness'? all I was saying is that you were wrong about suicidal music not being depressing, I mean what the hell kinda suicidal music do you listen to? care bear's OST? or maybe Hannah Montana's live album?

Yeah, it was rather childish, I must admit. My point is that many suiciders get depressed over not-so-depressing things. I mean, splitting up with your girlfriend isn't the end of the world, just find another. From my point of view, suicidal music isn't always depressive - I'm much more likely to kill myself after losing faith in humanity as a result of watching TV for several hours rather than listening to some DSBM.

I think the Blues, depressing as it is, helps keep peoples' minds off of death thoughts, really. I've always felt a bit better after listening to a good blues song while feeling depressed.

That's true, I think we may have misinterpreted each other, sorry bout that. I agree that a lot of people do commit suicide over stupid things. When I was saying about suicidal/depressive music, I was trying to say about musicians who are writing from the darkest perspective of the subject such as supreme isolation, mental illness etc but yeah I guess it isn't really that suicidal, as when I've ever listened to it I never thought about killing myself. yeah that is a good point, T.V. is not just the mind killer.

I don't really find blues or country that depressing (though admitly I haven't listened to a great deal of it), yeah it might be a bit down beat but it's not something I'm going to commit suicide to and besids good ol' JR listens to country so how bad can it be :P
I do find "bands" on the radio to be unbearable to listen to (especially when my mother has a radio station such as absolute or BBC radio something or other) I just can't stand being in the same room and I go and listen to something more "tasteful". Actually when I think about it, I don't think suicidal music does really exist, otherwise their would be no listeners.

Heh, might throw in some Painslut: when put on constant repeat, it grows pretty depressing and suppressing; probably the best 'music' for driving oneself to suicide. "Soul Cleansing", "Brainfuck", "Stasis", "The Voices In My Head", etc.

Worship's Last CD/tape/LP Before Dommsday has got to be the most suicidal music I know of. Fucked up Mad Max even killed himself.

What about Suicide? The band?
I love there self titled so much. however, if I was forced to listen to ti too much, I would most defiantly go mad and kill myself, if not others.

The most suicidal music is probably music that you hate the most.
