Question for you Alex, do you or your mates use the word "fudd" or "dos" whether ironically or otherwise?

I've picked up loads of hilarious Scottish slang terms.

I must confess I have heard neither. This isn't surprising really, since practically every town has its own dialect and slang, to the point where I can hardly understand them myself. Whenever I'm in Stirling or Ayr I usually hear at least one new word, or at least one in an unfamiliar term. I spent ages asking a for a slice roll in Aulds, except down in Ayr it's called "square sausage".

There are some that are fairly universal, like cannae, peelly-wally, bampot, blether, braw, chib, choob, chuffed, doober, wean, bairn, belter, scunner, wheesht, shoosht, skelp, skoosh, tadger, teuchter, thingmie, thon, toerag, toley, dreichit, dunderheid, eejit, glaikit, goupin, hackit...

Just as well I don't post in my local vernacular on the internet.

All instances of Genocide through history interest me, be it of Pol Pot, Hitler or Saddam. Related to those names is another interest of mine, tyrants and dictators. I am also very interested in philosophy and the lives of philosophers.

I'm interested in Ancient Egyptian history, especially the Old Kingdom and also their customs and religious beliefs. Like Avvadons_blood, I enjoy discussing topics in philosophy.

I am greatly intersted in ancient Greek history, since it involves my country, Italy, too, and it's very cool.

I'm very interested in history as a whole but there is only a small number of things that made me want to read multiple books about them: American and Sicilian mafia, Caesar's expedition in Gaul and of course Unit 731.

I'm studying in history right now because it's probably my primary interest, although I plan on going to law school later on.

I'm interested in basically all historical events sorrounding Europe, from Antiquity to the present day. I like to read about lesser-known times or events such as the history of the Byzantine Empire, the Eastern front in World War II (and I), how Russia created her empire, etc.

The American Civil War amazes me. I've studied several times, and never been uninterested.

I study History/International Relations at Uni. The subject I find of most interest is 20th Century Chinese history, especially the CCP and Mao. Some crazy stuff.

I took a great interest in the extermination camps, Auschwitz was easily one of the most intriguing. Knowing that they could kill over 5,000 in a whole day blew my mind.

I also like learning about the living conditions of the victims of the holocaust for some reason. <.<

There's a famous quote about Auschwitz.

"Ein Tag - Ein Tausend(?)" "One day - One thousand"

Yes they did, but they scavenged them from animals that had died naturally. "Viking" is actually an archaic word for "Vegan".

What I'm currently fascinated by are dramatic last stands where a small number prevails against the odds, such as the Battle of Mirbat, which I've been reading about recently. If anyone has any suggestions of such occasions, preferably since WW1, I'd be interested to hear them.

I've also been reading a book by Laurence Dees which re-examines the relationship between Stalin, Hitler, Truman and Churchill before and during WW2, using previously unavailable classified documents. It's quite good and contains details I hitherto hadn't known.

I immediately thought of this. I saw the movie and it was Ok.

Also on this note, anyone know of any battles which were fought almost down to the last man, aside from Tarawa? According to Wiki, a lot of battles ended up fighting down nearly to the last man.

This is one of the most clear victories I've seen from a battle. It concerns Voortrekkers (Boers) in South Africa fighting against Zulus. Just look at the casualty list. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Blood_River

The St. Bartholemew's Day Massacre, and the debate of whether or not ye olde Catherine was behind it.

The Kennedy assassination has always sparked my interest. I didn't have the sightest clue that footage of it was online until yesterday. My U.S. History teacher was talking about presidents and ones that died while in office. I had seen the attempt on Reagen already. I can't explain exactly why it interests me, but it just does.

The Voortrekkers initially had their asses handed to them by the locals, when they first went into Zululand, but they definitely got payback at Blood River.

Many events and people: Garibaldi and his battles, the Khanates, Mexican wars along 19th and early 20th century, the Conquistadores, native american history, Lombards, WW2 Italian history and italian civil war, the so-called "lead years" with occult cospirations that took over the country.
