The Stooges guitarist was found dead today, it's a real shame. He played guitar - wonderfully might I add! - on the band's debut and Fun House album and was a great bassist on Raw Power. I saw Ron with The Stooges a few years back and he was just one of those naturally powerful guitarists and those albums (except the shitty one they did a few years back) won't be forgotten.

I haven't been this down since Witchhunter!

Any articles about this? Was a cause of death been identified yet?

Damn, I love The Stooges. This really sucks.

R.I.P. Ron.

EDIT: There probably won't be too many articles on this. The Stooges aren't really popular with the mainstream crowd.

These are all I can find at present, no cause of death has been determined yet.

I'm not too sure about The Stooges not being popular with a mainstream crowd. They certainly are fashionable or maybe trendy in some sense (I wouldn't really know!) they did appear on Friday Night With Jonathon Ross on British TV a few months back and that's one of the biggest TV shows over here.

As of right now, it is thought that Asheton had a heart attack.

I haven't been this down since Joe Strummer died while walking his dog.

This is quite sad news. I read the article yesterday at work and went out on my lunch break jamming the Raw Power album. There was no foul play, according to the report. As the above poster mentioned - they believe it was a heart attack. I live about 20 minutes from Ann Arbor - where he was born, grew up, and died. This hits close to home with us Michiganders - as Iggy Pop and the Stooges and MC5 helped to shape what would become the punk rock scene in the late 60's, early 70's. Almost all of the punk legends are dead - Joe Strummer, 3/5 of the Ramones, Darby Crash, Sid Vicious (just to name a few.)
