Oh yeah and one of my greatest musical pleasures is The Cramps' first two albums. Just pure excellence all the way through, and also the compilation after that, Off the Bone. It's weird, it's dirty, it's drugged out, and it fucking rules, man.

I enjoy a lot of European hard trance and rap!

I've always been a fan of old school hardcore. Stuff from the late 70's and early 80's.

One of my favorite bands is Social Distortion...always loved their stuff.

Most of my non-metal tastes are focused in electronic music: Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, and of course the mandatory trance DJs like Armin Van Buuren, DJ Tiesto, and Paul Van Dyk.

Other than that, there's a lot of punk and hardcore in my listening habits, mainly crust punk and post-hardcore/emo; and there's the odd assortment of 80's pop music like like Genesis, Pet Shop Boys, and Depeche Mode. Some traditional goth rock like Bauhaus and The Cure hits the spot for me as well.

I absolutely love traditional bluegrass and Appalachian folk music. Go figure.

I've always been a fan of the Cocteau Twins, especially the first album "Garlands". The guitar tone is just bizarre, coupled with the ethereal vocals makes for quite an experience.

I'm pretty big on older rock(ish) bands like Blue Oyster Cult, U2, and the like. Also a HUGE Dead Can Dance fan.

I'm not ashamed of anything I listen to. I'm a huge fan of progressive rock (of all kinds, mostly from the 70's)
Bands like King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Rush, Camel, Comus, Area, PFM, Banco, Van Der Graaf Generator, Pink Floyd, etc.

I also like the obvious classic rock bands like Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and The Doors and I listen to a bit of blues, but the only one I really care about is Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Edit: forgot to mention I love just about anything Les Claypool has ever been in, that includes Primus, Oysterhead and Blind Illusion (well that one's obviously metal)

To the OP: stop feeling ashamed of what you like and embrace who you are with music. I'm sick of typical metalhead insecurities with music that is liked outside of metal. Sheesh.

Anyway I don't think it's a secret around these boards (or at least from convo's I begin here) that I'm heavily into real hip-hop. Not that 50 Cent no talent sort of stuff where rappers make singles with cliche themes and videos just for money. I love the hip-hop that musicians make just because they love the music and the culture. I myself am a huge fan of the culture.

I love stuff from the old school (Eric. B and Rakim, Boogie Down Productions, etc), to party rap (DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, etc), to hardcore hip-hop (Onyx, Wu-Tang Clan, etc), horrorcore rap (Gravediggaz, Necro, Circle of Tyrants, etc), the "underground" hip hop (MF Doom, Jedi Mind Tricks, etc), political hip hop (Sabac, Immortal Technique, Non Phixion, etc), alternative rap (Mos Def, A Tribe Called Quest, Beastie Boys, etc) and whatnot.

And I still like nu-metal. Nothing wrong with that. It's no surprise for me being I got into "real" metal through nu-metal groups like Korn, Slipknot, Flaw, Mushroomhead, and whatnot. As a youth, liking nu-metal was fun, but as an older person now, it's not something that holds that special "angsty-ness" anymore... if that makes sense. But it's nice to revisit those nu-metal days here and there.

And of course, a lot of hardcore/crust/whatever associated genre, noise/drone, and a lot of industrial... not that nonsense vampire goth "I got artificial fangs to scare my neighbors dog with" sort of shit.

EDIT: to stick on track with the thread, I suppose my next biggest passion in music besides heavy-based guitar music is hip-hop music. I like it so much that I began making beats of my own... apparently I can't spit and flow though :-( But I can produce non-the-less :-)

I'm not really ashamed of it, but I still enjoy Rammstein and Knorkator. Rammstein I enjoy for the catchiness, Knorkator more for the catchy idiocy.

Oh man, I listen to a lot of stuff other than metal! My other two favorite genres are Alternative Rock and Hip Hop, although I also enjoy electronic, pop, indie, and other random music. I won't go into anything specific since there's alot of bands and artists I like.

Most of the non-metal music that I listen to is either some sort of classical or ambient.
I used to not listen to much non-metal, but I have listened to quite a bit of classical this week.

Also, I came really close to buying a Giant Squid album today. Post-rock with some metal in it.

I don't really listen to that much metal in the first place so I'm not ashamed of non-metal music I listen to. Most of it seems to be in the progressive rock genre or the post-rock genre. I'm just CRAVING Genesis right now, and I picked up Trespass today and I've been listening to everything up to Wind & Wuthering excluding The Lamb that Lies Down on Broadway.

Classical music is a MAJOR thing for me. I love it. I've been listening to Dvorak's "From the New World" and Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt Suites (both 1 and 2) on an almost daily basis. Also Mendlessohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream overture is AMAZING and I listen to that on a regular basis as well. It exemplifies everything I love in classical music. And Brahms? Oh god. His Piano Concerto No.2 is a fucking incredible work of art (especially the first movement). I also like some more of the minimalistic classical music such as Erik Satie (the Gymnopédie's especially the first movement - so fucking beautiful).

Yeah, I've also been getting back into Sigur Ros and listened to Agaetis Byrjun and I've been loving every minute of it. It's post-rock awesomeness at it's maximum potential. Anyways yeah, that's what I'm mostly into right now.

No 'secrets' here. Metal is definitely not the only genre of music I listen to.

Things I should probably be ashamed of: I love me some Tom Jones and know a good percentage of his songs by heart. I also dance and, as a result, find myself listening to and sincerely liking my fair share of modern pop/r&b/house/whatever.

Everything else: look at my last.fm (same username as here). No shame, no secrets.

Regarding the phrase 'guilty pleasure', I use it myself, but I don't mean I am guilty or ashamed of the music, and I doubt anyone who uses the phrase does mean that. When someone says guilty pleasure, it probably refers to ironic consumption (which is like watching a so-bad-its-good movie). So I don't see why everybody frowns upon the usage of the term, since I doubt anyone uses literally.

And on topic. I have taken a liking to Bob Dylan's music thanks to my dad, it all started with me one day getting into the car and finding him playing 'The Hurricane'. I also enjoy classical music, such as Vivaldi and Paganini, and I have recently been listening to Bach's organ works (although I am still a major noob in the genre). Add to that Rammstein, Pink Floyd, iiO, a crapload of Arabic folk music, among others

Oh and I was once addicted to t.A.T.u (see! I can even write their name right, where I could've used that brain space to store something more important :brick:)

Same here, I love their 80's material. My dad gave me his old copy of Disintegration and it has been on heavy rotation in my car's cassette player for a while. It probably will be until I get my hands on some metal cassettes (I think I saw Dark Recollections on cassette at our local Rasputin's once ). Oh, Pornography is awesome, being their most dark and brooding album, but I find Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me to be too inconsistent and experimental to enjoy as a whole. Carpathian Forest's cover of "A Forest" was great, although exceedingly silly.
