Ground Control II is pretty good indeed, but it's the first one i'm so enthousiastic about.

I just don't have the patience anymore to divide my attention, build stuff, gather resources and upgrade my units at high pace.

As for DoW II not being impressive, thats what you get when you remove the multi-tasking and pace but keep the conventional RTS model....a shallow bore.

Anyone here played Sacred 2? I've heard a lot of mixed reviews so I downloaded it rather than buy it to give it a shot. If it's good, I'll buy it so I can play the multiplayer. Initially, it got mediocre reviews, but it seemed like a lot of the negatives were in relation to technical problems such as crashes, targeting errors, etc. The game has been heavily patched since release, so it would be helpful to know if the game has been improved.

I'm updating it now, so hopefully I'll actually be playing within an hour or two.

Doing another campaign in Halo 3. Forgot how good it was, gotta love those sci-fi games. After playing it I just thought of all it's downsides, like it's a little short, though playing in Heroic makes things much more interesting (and longer).

I just played the Call of Duty WaW demo, definitely gonna buy it, so much more real and intense than the first ones. Besides, shooting in Japanese swamps or open terrain and destroyed Russian citys is always a win, better than the ever present France or Germany.

And that makes me think that I can't wait to play Operation Flashpoint: DR. I'm a Ghost Recon fanboy (nothing beats crouching in the trees in a mountain and silently killing commies, doing a night-time demo job on a military dock or crashed planes in the desert or just being pinned down). Add prettier graphics, one giant map instead of severals, the choice of playing at whatever time in the day, driving jeeps or flying 'copters and giant battlefields. All of this almost one shot one kill, or if not, it could be worse. Seems like a wet dream to me.

I played World at War on my mates 360 the other day, 1v1. I didn't like it, but I think that was more due to the ass monkey XBox 360 controllers. How anybody can like those things is beyond me, they feel absolutely terrible when playing an FPS. You should feel like you're killing, but the controller makes you feel like you're hugging a bear or having a tea party.

Don't even get me started on the Halo series.

Bezerko is spot on about the 360 controllers. Always hated them for FPS'. World At War is fun on PC, but it's charm is lost quite quickly. I still go back to it once in a while, but otherwise it isn't worth it's $50 price tag.

Halo series... let the world create something else more horrendously overrated, mundane, and primitive than that piece of shit series, and I'll sling rocks for Bill Gates.

Yes. What's even more irritating is when their fanboys attempt to argue exactly how Halo was the most innovative/whatever FPS around.

My really dumbass friend even went so far as trying to argue that the 360 controller is better for FPS than a keyboard and mouse, and that if PC players were playing 360 players, it would be totally evenly matched, or 360 players would win, without either party being handicapped.

The X360 Controller is the perfect controller for FPS. The analog sticks are quick to respond, but they're not small and flimsy like the DualShock3 Controller. The X360 Controller is best suited for FPS, actually. Racing games work relatively well for them. Fighting games don't work at all for them. If you're just talking about the response time, then a mouse will always win because it's instant. I would prefer a DualShock3 for fighting and racing games.

I haven't used a Dualshock 3 but I really like the triggers on the 360 controller for driving games. Do the shoulder triggers on the DS 3 have a comparable range of motion as the triggers on the 360?

Heh, I've been playing Street Fighter IV on a 360 controller the whole time. I use exclusively charge characters in ranked matches though.

Why is that? (The charge characters, I mean.)

Because doing combos on the right side of the screen with a 360 controller with quarter circle forward characters feels awkward to me.

 I'm the opposite. 1/4 back on the right is difficult for me.

I've noticed I have a rather odd style of holding the controller when I play SF4. My left hand is in standard controller holding position, but my right hand is very off. I keep it on the top of the controller (where the shoulder buttons are). So I work the left shoulder buttons with my left pointer/middle fingers (and right pointer/middle, depending on the situation), the right shoulder buttons with my palm (closer to where my knuckles are), and the face buttons with my thumb. Somehow, I'm much better this way.

I love Resident Evil 4 so much. No matter what game I play or buy, I always go back to it. I can never tire of it, it is simply the best game that I have ever played and I do not think that anything will be better.

Resident Evil 5 is a piece of gimmicky bullshit with Gears of War copypasta'd into it so all the Halo kids would fall in love with it and buy it, oh and co-op. It sucks ass.

Does anyone feel the same way?

We already had this conversation a few pages back. To sum it up: it has its fans, but I feel it's a weaker game than RE4. It is, though, still an awesome game.

If you see more than a total of five minutes worth of Gears Of War-esque mechanics, then you're fucking blind. Your statement makes absolutely no sense.

There is a cover mechanic in Resident Evil 5 that feels like a retarded version of the one in Gears of War.

They gave enemies guns and made the game feel stupid. It feels a lot like Gears of War at times.

There is a cover mechanic that is used for a total amount of five minutes at the very end of the game. You must have never played Resident Evil 4, because the infected at the end of that game had guns as well. Quit your fucking bitching. Find a better and more substantial problem to argue about.

Now now, gamers of metal unite. I, personally, don't like seeing gun-toting zombies ANYWHERE. But every game is going to have small aspects or features to it that are irritating in a way, don't set your standards too perfect. I dealt with it, because I didn't have a choice. May as well enjoy the challenge. Also, I didn't even use the cover system, I found it easier without it :P

Resident Evil aside, any Metal Gear Online enthusiasts in the crowd? My username is Tyrant-ReX and my character name is tReX

Fuck, I fucking love MGO.

I absolutely love Metal Gear Solid 4. In fact it is one of the games that is almost always on display at my shrine to Sony.

That being said the one time I logged on MGO I was rolled by the people whose game I joined. I need to give it another goal but it seems the online part of the game takes a bit of effort to master.

You were rolled? Rolled? Metal Gear Solid is in my top 3 gaming franchises ever, but what the hell does that mean? Hit up the training server, the key to MGO is head-shots. It's fast paced, and get's pretty intense, even with a 16 player server limit.

Impressive shrine however, I too have followed Sony since Playstation first grazed my household, and Killzone 2 is long awaited glory.

There is one type of enemy at the end of RE4 that has a chaingun, and that's it. In Resident Evil 5, they give all of the enemies AKs or whatever they want. It makes it feel like a third person shooter Gears of War type of game and takes away the Resident Evil feel. It's no fun.

So any third-person action game with armed enemies is now a Gears Of War clone? How profound.

Playing System Shock 2 now. Man, this is such an amazing and deeply atmospheric game. I just wish it wasn't such a god-damn pain in the ass to run on XP, guh. Took me fucking forever to set it up.

Why the fuck are you so determined to find fault in every statement that I make?

It's not that hard to figure out that what I mean is the cover mechanic combined with gun-toting enemies makes a game that is usually tooled very differently feel like a Gears of War clone. Fuck off.

I'm just saying, there is no reason to take a tiny, minute aspect of the game and blow it into a big ordeal as to why you don't like it. The cover system is purely optional. I found myself using it once, honestly. It's pretty easy to get through without using it. And the armed enemies, once again, were foound in 4, so I don't really understand you using this either. It's something that is introduced so late into the game and used so minimally, so I just don't really understand using that as your entire platform for why you dislike the game.

It's not the entire reason why I don't like the game, but it is a part of it. And of course the enemies are armed, I just don't like that a lot of the enemies in that part of the game actually have guns as opposed to axes or bottles, like in Resident Evil 4. There was only one enemy in Resident Evil 4 that had a gun, and it was the chaingun generals on the island. And Krauser, if you want to count him. So that's two.

I hate the co-op in Resident Evil 5. I hate having someone that continually follows you around in Resident Evil, which is one of the only things I hate about Resident Evil 4: Ashley. Sheva is a huge pain in the ass, and in some ways she's an even bigger pain in the ass than Ashley is, but at least Ashley isn't fucking following you around the whole game like Sheva is. Another thing I hate about Resident Evil 5 is the inventory system. You have 9 inventory slots and you can't upgrade the amount no matter what, and everything takes up one slot. Resident Evil 4 had a very unique inventory system that could be upgraded if you wanted to upgrade it. The game paused so you could fool around in your inventory, which means you had some time to think about what you wanted to do when you went to change guns. I got used to this mechanic so much that the non-pausing inventory of Resident Evil 5 really screwed up my game and it made me play a whole lot worse. I really prefer the inventory of Resident Evil 4 and it seems like a better choice for the type of game that it is.

Resident Evil 5 just has a different feel to it. It just feels like a gimmick to me. Resident Evil 4 had that awesome, gritty feel especially in the village and island areas of the game. It's a much more visceral experience than Resident Evil 5 is and I feel Resident Evil 5 is just a stripped down, yet shinier, more appealing to the masses version of Resident Evil 4. I just don't like it.

I know where you're coming from on the inventory aspects, but I prefer RE5's system simply because it adds a major urgency aspect to item switching in battle, get's the heart pumping, especially if you need something in a corner slot. RE4's system was like MGS4's on a smaller scale; carrying an unrealistic amount of weapons hidden on your person with infinite time to navigate and organize them as one see's fit. I immensely enjoy a game that forces me to think on my toes, under pressure. And in RE5, large weapons are strapped on your back, and items are attached to your belt, all in view most of the time, to an acceptable degree.

Having said that, why the hell can't I move while pointing a weapon? Whatever...

Surely it's been like a week+ since I last posted in this thread... there's still RE5 talk going on? Heh, anyways...

Been gaming a lot actually and I got into this huge PSX phase at the moment, been ordering a lot of gems online that I missed out on and I'm revisiting games I never even really played, like Parasite Eve. Which is pretty awesome so far despite the wonky camera angles / walking. It's totally making me want to revisit Vagrant Story.

Also since the last time I posted in this thread, I have completed RE3, RE2, and the original and yes! In that order. It was actually a pretty awesome experience playing them that way, believe it or not it worked out really well that way. I'm now about halfway into Code Veronica X which isn't too bad either, after that I plan to dust off my Gamecube to finally go through the REmake, and maybe give Zero another shot. This is a real testament as to why it's pointless to sell games (in my case), who knew I'd randomly pick out a game I bought years ago (RE3) and never really touched... only to end up loving it and buying/going through the rest of the entire series!? Epic.

I don't even want to compare RE4 to the original RE games now, since they're so incredibly different. RE5 is definitely pretty low on my list in terms of rating them. RE3 was very fun and had a lot of memorable stuff (Nemesis!), while RE2 had the epic music and atmosphere with great characters, and the original has the insane Mansion and a lot more puzzles and junk. It's really hard to say which is my favorite.

I also bought a modded Sega Saturn that can play imports, eventually I'll get to that. But I've literally bought like ~20 PSX games within the last few weeks so ... it's time to go through those, lol.

I just beat Fable II. I've been a gamer since the Atari 2600 days, and this is my fave game ever next to A Link To The Past. Fable II wasn't full of micro-management, wasn't full of item customization, but it sure sucked you into its world and was FUN. I am now finishing Tales Of Vesperia and it's pretty boring level grinding after the freedom Fable II gave me.

A game I'm really looking forward to is Heavy Rain, the spiritual successor of Indigo Prophecy coming out for the PS3. Bought Madowrld for the Wii a few weeks back, haven't delved too deeply, but it seems cool from what I've played. Bonus points for having John Dimaggio in it.

I'm on my second run of Resident Evil 5, and it's more fun than the first time play through. Now I'm just concentrating on treasure hunting, getting all the special weapons/perks, and Mercenaries (Wesker is such a badass).
