If the online play is stable and fair, and the normal game modes run smoothly, I'll definitely be shelling out the $15 for it. I'll be getting it regardless seeing how I don't own a physical copy of it from past consoles. :)

Well it's a slightly bigger deal for me because I don't even have the console yet, I'd be buying it solely for MvC2.

Ah, I see. Out of curiosity, which console would you buy if it does turn out to your liking?

Xbox360, of course. PS3 is too expensive, has no games I want to play on it. :)

Anyone think the Xbox 360 / PS3 / Wii will be replaced soon?

Think about it, 360 came out in 2005, PS3 and Wii in 2006. Then again, they all are so heavily marketed that I don't think they'll die until maybe 2012. The Xbox itself didn't even last 5 years, if I'm correct, but the PS2 and Gamecube did have about 6 and 5 years under its belt.

Let me tackle your observations in a couple of different directions:

First off, do you remember Sony's whole "10 year cycle" for the PlayStation 2? The reason they were able to say their consoles have such a cycle is because of the introduction of another console usually around six years of the previous consoles life, while still releasing a steady stream of games for the first console. If you look at the release date of the PlayStation 2, it came out in 1999, even though the PlayStation 3 has been in circulation since 2006. The PlayStation 2 is still selling, though, the numbers are starting to drop off, even with the only SKU on the market being $99 currently. So Sony can technically say, "LOOK! 10-YEAR CYCLE!" even though, I'm pretty sure, next to no games are even released for the PS2 except for what? Madden wrestling and jRPGs?

The Wii and the PlayStation 3 will probably be around for a relatively long time, especially when you consider the sort of money Sony spent developing the cell technology. If we're going to see anything, it's going to be a remanufactured PlayStation 3 with the cell technology intact, but maybe some stylistic changes and such. The Xbox 360, however, we're probably going to see something coming from them in the next one to two years, whether it might be a remanufactured Xbox 360, which is what I think might happen, and probably BluRay inclusion.

I'm bored, so I'm installing Civilization IV and getting Rise of Nations.

For Civilization IV, I'm going to play a military civilization with Bolt Thrower in the background.

Edit
And for Rise of Nations too.

That game was definitely a good play, but it just didn't pull me into the longer games like Civ3 did, and I'm not sure why :P

Gah, I'm terrible.

I started off good, but it's because I was a huge asshole. I thought that sharing my technology with everyone would prevent wars, but they started using it against me around 2000 AD. :(

I think I am ready to buy a handheld game device. The problem is... I don't want to spend more than $100 on one.

I meant a new one. I think I'm going to wait for the new PSP to be released. I know it's probably going to be around $170 which is what the current PSP is at. The DS looks interesting, but I don't know how I feel about the whole stylus design. I guess I'm just so used to buttons and triggers and shit that anything else freaks me out.

I try to go as long as I can without waging wars also, but in that game war is inevitable. If you need to sway them in your favor, small amounts of gold shut them up, a nation that's pissed at you might start to look the other way if you throw a little chump change their way :D
Unless, of course, you're a fan of using gold to buy your way through creating structures.

Finally finished Metroid Prime 3, game in which I was stuck because of pure idiocy. I didn't see the elevator switch at the start of the Pirate Homeworld, so I went everywhere else and got all the possible Energy Cells and placed them on the Valhalla, thinking that was the right way to go, until I went back to the homeworld and became painfully aware of my lack of observation skills.

Starcraft is the shit. Even to this day, millions of people play it online...top selling PC game ever if I'm not mistaken. Thoughts of Starcraft 2? I hope Blizzard gets their shit right on it, it would be a huge disappointment if it isn't absolutely awesome, I'm afraid to say, the hype is overpowering...

Just got back to Starcraft, I love it, just the atmosphere, the music, the whole look. I couldn't care less about Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3, it's not even the same thing it's been like ten years and hate Blizzard since Warcraft 3. Warcraft 3 (even more with wow) isn't that much of a bad game but it's the art style that is most grating. I know Warcraft 2 was about big characters too, but here it's overdone, particularly for the humans and it feels cartoonish. Warcraft completely lost its visual appeal to me. And from screens I saw of Starcraft 2, even more, seems like they're killing it. Starcraft wasn't about big characters, it was realistic in a kind of way, just look at the teaser trailer, the marine is completely huge and overdone. Seems like it's on the same direction as Warcraft 3 but worse. As for Diablo 3, they're making it even more accessible. They have the cash coming in, and I'm sure Vivendi(or was it)-Blizzard want them to make the game as accessible as possible so they can sell as much copies as possible.

On another note, next monday will be the official announcement of the next Thief game. I only played Deadly Shadows, and got through once, but I absolutely loved it. The atmosphere, the story, the gameplay... I couldn't ask for much more (framerates). can't wait.

I agree, that's the same thing I'm so worried about: that cartoony feel to the game that Warcraft spawned. Starcraft was gritty, and awesome because of it. My only hope for SC2 is that the other aspects of the game make up for the visual distaste. I hate what happened to the Warcraft franchise... quite the downward spiral since W2.

Hell I love those gritty sci-fi games/movies. It reminded me of Aliens in some way, well some Zerg do somewhat look like the alien but that wasn't because of that.

Yeah I always thought the Zerg was always a rip-off of the aliens from Alien, or the aliens in Starship Troopers, which was also awesome. But only the zerglings/hydralisks :P

Neverwinter Nights 2 is a lot of fun.

I agree with you guys about Warcraft 3, bought it as soon as it came out and was immensely disappointed with the art style among other things.

The art style in Starcraft is badass and all, but the thing that truly fascinates me about Starcraft are the pro gamers. Every match is fascinating in it's own way. I enjoyed the Starcraft 2 battle reports, even if the second one seemed kinda staged.

Edit
Did anyone hear about 3D Realms shutting down?

Duke Nukem Never.

Something very similar to this happened to me in Metroid Prime 2. The Metroid Prime games are excellent but, sometimes, it can be really unclear what you're supposed to do. Since back-tracking is a bit too common as well, it can be really annoying...

Man, World of Goo is such a great game. Many thanks to whoever pointed out when it was 5$ on Steam.

That was me, and yes it was fantastic. Short, however. I'm glad I bought it when it was $5.

Ah, I've yet to play those games. I'm in love with Super Metroid though, a masterpiece in my eyes. I played something like 15 minutes of the first Prime but never found the time to play it.

The game was an abomination on release and largely considered a "bad" game by most. Virtually all of the gamebreaking bugs and issues have been ironed out and it has a very strong community. It is one of the few PS3 games where almost everyone uses a mic because one came bundled with the game.

When looking at all the scores on metacritic and what not it is important to remember that was BEFORE everything was patched. If you enjoy teamwork (big emphasis on teamwork) and tactical shooters. Then you would enjoy the game.

Hey, when I finished the game I only had it 77% completed. :D Still haven't finished Prime 2 and haven't played Prime 3 yet.

In Rome Total War my Saxon armies are mighty, oh yes. Most of Britain is mine, just gotta oust the Celts. Once that's done, it's on to Ireland (to finish off said Celts) and France!

It's damn annoying but I'm a Metroid fan boy. Something like this always happens with me and a Metroid game, but I always come back for more. I bought the Wii just because Fire Emblem and Metroid. No More Heroes and Madworld have been refreshing surprises.

Here's some leaked footage of Duke Nukem Forever gameplay and animation. Now I'm really bummed, this looks like it could have been one of the most entertaining shooters in a while :(

Rediscovering Starcraft. Now I realize how much i suck at RTS, as I have problems doing several things at the same time. I also have a bad habit of trying to upgrade everything before attacking or creating a big army. I upgrade, make defenses, make armies and then attack. I fulled the queues in my barracks and such but forget them and by the time my army gets killed, I have only a couple of other guys ready. And when my army is ready, the enemy's is too. But I'm getting better, I may have find a certain rather effective tactic in a certain mission but unfortunately I'm almost finished but may run out of Vesphene gas... Anyways it's damn fun.

EDIT: Oh and I still haven't finished the Terran episode... guess I'll have a hard time completing the game.

I once had a dream that I was playing a game of Starcraft, my field of vision was only the battlefield, and I could control all unit and building functions with my mind, like I always wished I could, just like the AI does.

I would recommend staving off of the upgrades, they only increase attack/defense by minor digits and really drain your geysers. But, your geysers will always run dry eventually, you have to know how to expand into multiple bases. Defense has always been my number 1 priority, because even if you've sent off your army to their deaths, you're still protected at home.

Yeah and on the "Big Push" mission I think, the first one with nuclear nukes where you have to kill some Confederate bases, I made some unbreakable defence. Turrets all around the base so they can detect incoming invisible units, two two by two tanks in siege mode near the only entrance with two turrets and two bunkers both sides. That and my growing army was forming there. The best they could manage by attacking the same structure, was to do enough damage to see flames. That isn't much damage and that was because they had one hell of an army. And I used my SVCs for repairs. But attacking was another thing too...

I remember when I was young, I was getting through the game via cheat codes, a way I now despise. Hell, I did this for like every game I played.

Did the same back when SC first came out, after a while I cut back to only using black sheep wall, then finally eliminated it from the picture a few years ago. I never liked that level, it's such a hassle to destroy every last Confederate, obviously you won't be able to do it with just one army. Gonna take a lot of waves. You're going to have so much fun on the last Terran level :D

Here's some leaked footage of Duke Nukem Forever gameplay and animation. Now I'm really bummed, this looks like it could have been one of the most entertaining shooters in a while :(

Duke Nukem Forever is being announced/shown at E3 with a releases date. I fucking know it. 15+ million and 12 years, George Broussard and Scott Miller are not letting go of DNF that easily. It's been interesting reading what people think will happen with the franchise at this point at the 3D Realms forum.
