My brain is mush after sitting through a "progressive" church service from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Fuckin' torture. I hate LA, I want to go back north!

I wish there could be in-season threads for the NFL and the sort because the main sport thread we got now is dominated by soccer. It's a metal archives here so oh well.

You poor bastard.

Glad to see this all back now. Anyway, on a completely unrelated note; only in Australia would we have a town called Woodenbong.

Football (not soccer) owns. On a related note, Donovan McNabb was just traded to the Redskins. This can only mean one thing...

Redskins and Eagles fans are going to hate each other even more.

Oh, there's Nightwish, Epica, Rhapsody of Fire in there...'neo-prog' like Karnataka, Mostly Autumn, Magenta which at many places I am hard pressed to tell apart from pop. And to be honest, I don't really know how prog PT are anyway. There hasn't been much prog outside the Avant garde space from late 70s onwards but try telling that to them, especially the prog metal crowd there. They don't understand that it would be easier to define prog that way..otherwise, have a more inclusive approach and stop pretending Scorpions is less prog than Iron Maiden just because they recorded Wind of Change.

Howdy y'all.

I could go on a LJ-esque story about what I've been up to, but nobody wants that. Suffice it to say I've been busy and need to find a job with health benefits ASAP. Oh yeah, and I graduate in just over two months.

So yeah. Just taking an e-piss to mark my internet territory. I'll try to remember to post every once in a while, since I find the ban announcement promising, but I'm still quite busy, and likely to remain so until I find the aforementioned job.

Holy shit. I didn't know about this till I read it here just now. That's surprising that the Eagles traded him within to an NFC East team. So much for Washington drafting Jimmy Clausen. I'm gonna go read what they had to give up for Donovan. I'm glad he's not going to the Raiders.

2010 2nd round pick and a conditional 3rd or 4th in 2011.

I hope they draft a tackle.

If there's just one thing I could ask of the 'new' FFA: PLEASE no more Australian talk. We know your country's awful, we know you're all horrible people and we know you cluck like hens. Furthermore, we know that some hens cluck louder than other hens -- but there's no reason to bring it to a heavy metal website. Australia has contributed fuck all to heavy metal music, and therefore you refrain from talking about Australia until it does. Please, Aussies, refrain from mentioning your homeland. Ever. Thanks, that is all.

Tackle is a top priority for them. Detroit will probably take Russell Okung but if they don't, the 'Skins would be thrilled if he fell to them. I thought the Eagles would have gotten a conditional 1st rounder at least. This was highway robbery considering it's to an in division team.

The Eagles basically said they were looking for a top-42 pick, which is what they got (36th), plus the one next year. McNabb was a 1st round pick but he has played 11 years and is 33, so 1st round compensation wasn't going to happen in any trade.

If Okung is gone there are still other tackles to consider, like Anthony Davis, but of course no one knows what they will do. Not even them (yet).

Yeah you're right. Plus he's a free agent after this season.

I thought I felt a slight shaking this afternoon. I was on my bed and wondered if a spring broke but it was a faint aftershock from the Pacific rim quake today. I guess Tom Warrior was playing his riffs again.

It's funny that you american football guys complain about the Sport thread, then consequently post sports stuff here. Particularly since the sport thread is quiet too.

Yea that is the truth. I've been a Lions fan all my life, so watching them win two games this year was wonderful. However, that does not change the fact they still went 2-14 overall. :grumble:

It is funny to think that Jason Hanson (K) puts up more points than any other team member every year though.

They at least have competent management and coaching now. Who knows, perhaps William Clay Ford will die and the curse will be lifted.

Yea I've been hoping. They still kept that idiot Matt Million as their General Manager long after he should have been canned. The Lions have had so many problems within their management along with poor coaching that the program is basically shot, but I can always hope for a rejuvenation.

Employment or education-wise?

I'm graduating with degrees in both music (focused in ethnomusicology) and physics (condensed matter). I want to go to grad school for ethno, but I need to become proficient in Spanish first, so I'm looking for a job that will cover me while I take some classes for that. Problem is, there aren't many jobs that require a music degree that offer health insurance, so I'm mostly looking at physics-related things.

But really, I'll take just about anything that can pay my bills. And due to family history, health insurance is pretty much a must-have.

If you happen to know of any such openings for someone fresh out of college with research and engineering experience, drop me a line!

Hello. Lions will not be good, but will show improvement. 4-6 wins, subject to change after the draft. I also hope they get to be good soon, though.

Redskins got a hell of a deal, in my opinion, and will have one of the best offenses in the country. I don't mind them giving up picks for McNabb, who has probably 3-5 years left. Redskins have a decent receiver corps and a great tight-end in Cooley. They signed Larry Johnson and Willie Parker when they already have Clinton Portis--possibly the best bunch of RBs in the league (not that Portis and Parker aren't really on their way out, but Portis certainly has some left in the tank and doesn't have to get beaten up and worn down all season now).

I was about to use that ol' standby "so, how about that local sports team?" subject-changing line, but that's exactly the subject I wanted the conversation to move away from.

So we'll move on to plan B: Epidemic of Violence is amazing and heavymetalbackwards is a very silly person.

shoulda brought your ipod. were you dragged into it? don't worry, it happened to me many times and i'm sure plenty of other people on here. i used to be promised that we'd get to go eat afterward if i went to church. Ronald McDonald was my true messiah. the real reason why i hate God is because i only got to go eat one out of every five times after church.

Iron Maiden should write a song about this.

Donovan came, from across the field
He brought us fame, and Super Bowl Rings
He killed our vibe, he killed our team
Took our fans, for his own greed...

.....Run to the Endzone!! Run for your coach!!

I honestly don't have one. I had a 16 gig nano 2 years ago, but it was stolen.

EDIT: For those familiar, the church is associated with "The Secret".

Goodness Gracious! Really, that tripe? Why did you go/ still in the position to be forced to go? Since you clearly weren't there of your own will.

speaking of crazy, how popular are the Scientology buildings in LA? i've been there once, and i saw one in Hollywood and one huge building off of a highway. i have no idea how many more there are, but i can't help but think Tom Cruise and Issac Hayes are responsible for them.
