I was up there about ten years or so ago, hiking along that trail above the lake. It is a TRIP how devastated it is, with the trees knocked down like matchsticks and piled at the end of the lake. They said some guy named Truman lived on the shore of the lake and refused to evacuate when they warned him the mountain was gonna go, and that he and his cabin ended up getting buried by ten feet thick burning ash.

I was gonna say, and have before that your pictures totally remind me of this place, only with considerably more sagebrush.

Whoooah, fucking trippy!! That's the DAYTIME?

These first two were shot right here in town, just a couple weeks ago, and hopefully give an idea of why I like it here. Sometimes I wonder what the rest of the country thinks of where I live, if all they know is blue football fields and potato farms. It can be a really fun place if you like to get outdoors.

Image

Fall colors in the city; the trees have since lost their leaves. Novembers here can be kind of grim, but this was late October and the weather was still nice.

Image

This is kind of neat; at Penny Springs, geothermal seeps along the south fork of the Salmon River (130 miles north of Boise) produce these smoking steaming cliffs. Sometimes people build pools by the base of the cliff for hot mineral baths.

You live down the road from a mountain? How awesome is that! Can't wait to see the views from the top

EDIT; Is that Mt Ruapehu?
Climbers and trampers have been told to avoid Mt Ruapehu's summit zone after scientists warned the mountain could erupt without warning

The town I live is anything but, though luckily I'm close to Bournemouth, The New Forest and Dorset coast (UK). All these other places, people photograph look amazing to me

no that's mount egmont...yeah about 20 mins to the mountain and 10 mins to the sea,its pretty cool.Don't know if i'm ready to climb it just yet its a steep mountain.
yeah ya can see ruapehu from some points down the coast, would kinda be cool if it erupt's,but i shouldn't really say that as it might fuck some people up.

Coprinopsis atramentaria, this will make you sick if consumed within a few days of alcohol, it contains Coprine which causes a condition similar to disulfiram, a unpleasant hypersensitivity to alcohol. Otherwise edible before it turns into an inky mass of spores.
Image

Patellaria atrata, this was identified by others at AscoFrance. I was told it is quite common and grows on many surfaces, including rope. Its really tiny so easily overlooked, I only saw it cause I stopped to photograph something else.

As per Dread's request:

I enhanced this one a lot for effect
Image
It was a crazy storm.. torrential rail, hail and tornadoes. Wind gusts up to 100km/hr!
Driving home from the cabin, I got stuck in this monster storm. Going into this fucker with Finsterforst's "zum.." was quite an experience!
I'm quite sure I narrowly missed driving into a tornado.. the wind went from 50km to 150km/hr in a split second, it was so bad I had to park next to the grain elevator in my previous picture :o

what lake was the "Ancient Claw of Doom" taken at? The lake looks familiar, but it was AGES and ages and ages ago since I was up in British Columbia; it might not be the same place... All the pictures are awesome, too.

I haven't been out in a long enough time to have any really great pics, but the most prized of mine is this one where I get the sunlight shining on the grass in this perfect light. Doesn't come close to some of the other pictures here. Them storm clouds man...

Anyways,

Love this thread, thought I'd give back and share some photos of my home state of Vermont. Mid-November, so the leaves are off the trees but no snow yet. Quality varies, taken with my phone.

First set are from the land around our house.

Yeah, I'm glad I got to grow up around all that, I don't live there now but I like to visit as much as I can. I've always wanted to visit New Zealand too, the varying terrain intrigues me. Really enjoy all the pictures on here.
