Hi,
Seems like they're starting to move:
https://www.facebook.com/ToolMusic/posts/1680714355322360

Quote:
TOOL RECORDING NEWS!

Who’s ready for some major breaking news? Brace yourself; get ready… okay, here we go. We are very excited to announce what is sure to be welcome news for both fans of TOOL and prog-metal enthusiasts in general. After all the years of writing and arranging (and re-arranging) at the band’s loft, I can at this time officially report that the guys have moved into a major studio where the recording process for the next album is about to begin in earnest. For the past few days the band members have been getting sonically adjusted to their new surroundings - dialing in the equipment settings and restaurant catering choices - in preparation for Danny to begin his tracking any time now – perhaps by the time that you read this!

I am also excited to announce that ‘evil’ JOE BARRESI will once again have his capable fingers at the engineering controls for what will certainly be another masterful TOOL offering by the talented team. Pinch yourself if you want, but I have been told that all systems are GO at this point for the upcoming sessions.

I will be posting periodic bits and pieces on the progress of the tracking once the guys get deeper into the recording process, and hope that all of you will keep checking back to the official website for these updates. In the meantime, be sure to also visit the individual band members’ sites and socials (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) for more inside glimpses as TOOL prepares for the next stage in their musical odyssey.

I was confused when I read this a few weeks ago, because they've all been talking as if everything has been written and recorded for a while now and that they were just waiting on Maynard to come record vocals. But they're just now about to start doing everything?!

"New Tool Album: 2033" 10,000 Days later...

About gahdamn time. Though frankly, I think they've waited too long on this one and created too much anticipation. Hope I'm proven wrong.

I was a fan of them in the 90's. I can't imagine caring about this band anymore.

I know what you mean and agree. I will definitely be checking this out when it comes out because I love tool, but goddamn so much conflicting information and pointless updates! It's as if Maynard doesn't even talk to the rest of the band, or he just likes to troll everyone. And I have seen multiple articles in which other metal/rock musicians have gone to see them play new stuff at their studio and swear that it was like seeing god's penis or something. I'd rather them just wait until they have something to show everyone before doing all these press releases.

I have to admit, this looked like an elaborate April Fools joke that would lead up to a fake release announcement.

But their official page keeps giving out little tidbits about actual tracking taking place. Of course, they seem to be in no hurry whatsoever, so who knows is we'll see the album any time this year.

Well, more specifically, their weakest album, which came out over 10 years ago. Is this a band still under contract or something? Gotta try harder if you're gonna try and impress with a "teaser".

I was about to say Undertow was FAR from their weakest album before I caught myself. Dear GOD do I feel old.

It's the music clinic video. I just realised that it maybe wasn't necessarily intended to be a teaser for any new material for the band, so I may have been a bit harsh with my judgement.

I look forward to this. I don't expect it to be better than 10,000 days but it should definitely be at least "good." I don't think their sound has tired out but probably will be after this album. Most likely their swan song. I love the fact that each song is going to be over 10 minutes. One or two songs should have a radio cut version sent out to radio stations since they're a mainstream band.

Hah, wow, Danny and Adam got fat.

Anyway, I'm simultaneously excited and not at all for this album. I was a pretty hardcore Tool fan after Aenima and the anticipation for Lateralus was fucking huge, then that album dropped and was goddamn amazing and life-changing for teenage me. But, by the time they got around to 10,000 Days, I had kinda cooled off on the band a bit so didn't really give it much time when it came out, but it really is pretty weak. I don't think the political/social lyrics really worked for Tool at all, and a lot of tracks from that album that seem lauded by others don't really do anything for me. "Right In Two" is boring, "Rosetta Stoned" is sort of a lame parody that I like far less than the much more serious "Third Eye" (the obvious point of comparison), and the filler here truly felt like filler. I mean, "Jambi" rips but even those lyrics were a little too direct/touchy-feely for me.

So yeah, who knows. It's been a long fucking time, so if they've really been working on the music for a very long time and it still feels very "Tool" then musically hopefully it will be good. If Maynard's lyrics turn back toward the more inward-looking or esoteric, I'd love that, too. But I've been pretty unexcited by recent APC stuff, so I'm not crossing my fingers there, either. Setting my expectations low, so maybe it will surprise me.

I'm with you. I listened to that APC album from last year and it was really underwhelming for me, despite the good reviews. I don't remember a single second from it. There was not one memorable riff or vocal melody on the entire album for me.

I hope that album wasn't a foreshadowing of a serious decline in Maynard's singing, but I wouldn't be too surprised. He hasn't recorded a Tool song (other than maybe this new one) for 13 years. That's a long time, and his singing was getting stretched a bit even then on his high end range.

I'm more of a fan of 10,000 Days though. The first two songs are absolute rippers, really great stuff. If we even get 2 more like that on this album, I'll be happy. I'm certainly not expecting a Lateralus though.

I agree about the lyrics too. I really hope he goes back to the more introspective ambiguity of songs like "Lateralus" or "Schism". Those songs have some really great lyrics to them.

A release date has officially been announced! The album will come out August 30th, they announced it at their show last night. So far, no details like track listing, artwork, etc., but they've been playing some new songs from the album live on this tour.

Listened to "Invincible" but not the other track...normally I'd avoid teasers or early live versions or whatever, but man, it's been so damn long...

This track felt a little half-baked, but that could be due to a lack of experience playing it live, the live audio, etc. The actual recorded song could be really good. I like the plodding hypnotic riff in the second half that's super heavy - it actually kinda gives me some vibes of something like Jambi devolving into a more primal, sludgy, Aenima-esque sound or something like that. Bated breath and all.

Edit: Ok I gave in and listened to "Descending" as well...fuck, that was great. Loved the whole back half to be honest. I think I already like these tracks more than the batting average of 10,000 Days...

This is going to turn out perfectly okay. Tool fans will hail this as either the second coming or the worst atrocity known to man when it'll just be fine.

This. Was listening to this while coding and that kicked in, keystrokes stopped, and thought 'whoa'. Also, Justin Chancellor is something else on bass.

TOOL Teases New Album
July 21, 2019

TOOL has released a short teaser for the band's long-awaited new album. The clip, which can be seen below, gives the first glimpse of what is appears to be the new TOOL logo.

TOOL's follow-up to 2006's "10,000 Days" is due on August 30. The disc is expected to include the songs "Descending" and "Invincible", which the band has performed live at its recent concerts.

TOOL's new album was reportedly produced by Joe Barresi, and mastered by Bob Ludwig, who previously worked on "10,000 Days". Recording commenced in March 2018, with drummer Danny Carey laying down his tracks first and bassist Justin Chancellor recording his parts next.

Singer Maynard James Keenan attempted to explain the long gap between TOOL albums in a 2017 interview with "The Joe Rogan Experience". Speaking about his bandmates, the singer said: "Their writing process is so drawn out. And I'm sure there's a lot of reasons why the delay has been long. Their process is very analytical, and I think, at some point, maybe because so much time has gone by from the last album, there has to be a little bit of fear in here. [You think to yourself] 'Is this record gonna be as good as the last one?' The anticipation now is… Now the pressure is huge, so I'm sure there's some of that [that] goes into play."

Last week, TOOL's legendary 1991 demo tape, titled "72826", surfaced on YouTube, Apple Music, Google Play and Pandora. It marked the first time a TOOL release had been available to stream online.

The demo contains six songs, all of which eventually surfaced on the band's 1992 debut EP, "Opiate", and its first full-length album, 1993's "Undertow", including "Sober", "Crawl Away" and "Hush".

Back in 2017, it was reported that TOOL planned to make its back catalog available on streaming platforms ahead of the release of its new album.

Fans are speculating that the release of the demo is just the start, with TOOL potentially planning to share its entire catalog via streaming ahead of the new LP's arrival.

According to the band's social media, we now have a title: Fear Inoculum.

I like it. Fits in with the previous album titles but also feels different. The discography is going digital + on streaming this Friday. Possibly a new song then?

Tool is prog music for people who only listen to top 40 drivel but lament that "no one makes good music anymore" because they're too lazy to look out music that suits their tastes. That's their fanbase.

No wonder I never liked Tool very much. I don't want to listen to the music of anyone who "does music for a living" rather than out of passion. The guy in this interview looks utterly uninspired about everything except his winemaking and martial arts.

Tool is prog music for people who only listen to top 40 drivel but lament that "no one makes good music anymore" because they're too lazy to look out music that suits their tastes. That's their fanbase.

Jesus, 2004 just called, they want their overused hot-takes back.

Yeah, I'm very much looking forward to this album. Saw them in Prague in June and it was a great, energetic show with incredible production value. The two new songs were pretty brooding and almost post-rock in terms of songwriting. Hope the new album comes with a disturbing music video as well.
