Hi, I am a fan of metal music. I primarily listen to death metal and some technical metal too, but I sometimes like black metal, thrash, and every now and then some power metal. I play guitar so I like shred. My favorites off the top of my head are:

Yngwie
Children Of Bodom
Cannibal Corpse
Death
Deicide
Belphegor

:D

Hey,

My name is Luke, I'm from Ireland. I'm a death metal fan, a web developer (PHP, MySQL & ReactJS) and I play guitar, and some bass...although I have let my practice slip a lot lately so who knows if I could back that up with a guitar in my hands at the moment.

PM me if you wanna chat about web dev, death metal or anything else really.

Bands I like:
Opeth, Bloodbath, Lamb of God, Amon Amarth, Bolt Thrower, Obituary, Beyond Creation, Necrophagist...probably someone huge I've forgotten...just I pretend I said them.

Currently listening to:
Nightmare Logic by Power Trip

Upcoming Gigs I'm going to:
Corrosion of Conformity (Tonight)
Slayer, Lamb of God, Obituary & Anthrax (Nov 1st) what a lineup!

Looking forward to contributing to Metal Archives!

Hey guys! Kind of new, here. Been a metalhead for about a decade now, and just wanted to stop and say hi! I kind of listen to anything as long as it's catchy to my ear. The current ones I've been listening to a lot being Newsted, Freedom Call and Man Must Die. (My all time favorite has to be Quo Vadis, though.)

I'm also a student studying folklore and I kind of selected the metal community as my research, so I hope it's okay if I post a thread regarding that.

Hi!

Really happy to have found this page. I listened to metal for about a decade now and I love statistics and archiving stuff. I learned to do distorted vocals from a street musician after I gave him like 50 cents and he became my teacher after a talk. I am in a band for about 6 months now and we are about to drop our next EP soon and I am really hyped. I liked Death Metal, Melodic Death Metal, Tech Death Metal, Blackened Death Metal, but most of all Black Metal, DSBM & Atmospheric Black Metal. My favorite bands would be Blessmon, Marduk, Diabolica Hymnis, Gorgoroth, Belphegor, Waldgeflüster, DAYUM, Sugar For Lucy, Thormesis, Slipknot and Korn.

Other then metal I enjoy going to the gym, languages, skateboarding, playing games & journalling. Dislikes would be ideologies that directly promote hatred for no apparent reason, like national socialism.

Always happy to have new friends online and I love the oldschool design of this archive/forum

Hello, to everyone and thanks for being cool enough to let me be a part of your informative and important website!

Been listening to Metal the better part of my life ( South of Heaven was Slayer's latest album was when I was in High School ).

I have been, for many years, enjoying the resources here. Everything from the album titles and details to the reviews has been invaluable to me, and I finally wish to become a part of it... if for no other reason to simply post this very post in most supreme thanks for the years of knowledge you have provided and added to my love for Metal, as well as creating an avenue I may continue to follow to enjoy the Metal life and culture.

I have already listed much of my beloved collection for anyone to admire, and plan to continue to list more as I have time. I am a version-specific collector, so I do my best to add the necessary specifics to all of my additions. I mainly collect and enjoy CDs for their easy-to-rip ability because I actually rip all to 320 kbps MP3 quickly after purchase to preserve everything and make them portable. I do have many cassettes at the moment, but I keep my most treasured releases on CD.

My interest ranges mostly in the 1980s-1990s area with focus on Thrash and Death Metal titles.

I hope I could someday contribute here but honestly this site is fortified with knowledge... maybe someday I can indeed contribute back to this site.

I am also on Facebook and Instagram and am looking for those who like the occasional pic, song, album, or just my uniquely dark personality!

Greetings boys and girls from -not so sunny- Athens.

Been a metalhead since I can remember myself and though its cliche, I can honestly say that I enjoy every aspect of our beloved musical genre. From Thin Lizzy to Motorhead and from Therion to Carcass you name it! If the music is good I'm up for the ride. Well except Black Metal. Ok scratch that, Venom, Bathory and Emperor are a part of my collection so what can I say? I'm also a CD aficionado (yup no vinyl for me) and regretfully an avid smoker. I believe in no gods except Lemmy and Popoff's book ''Top 500 Heavy Metal Albums'' is my bible and constant reminder of how I little do know regarding Heavy Metal despite listening for 12 fuckin' years. Happy to be around you guys. Keep the faith alive!

Hey all, I am JURM and I am from Australia, Sydney in fact, so Utopia records is my home store.

I listen to lots of different types of music but metal has always been a favourite, and after recently receiving a gift of about 60 albums (I am a record collector) I decided I needed to expand my listening choices through following discussions and suggestions here, where I have been a casual lurker of the Encyclopaedia. I figured if I were going to find out who is the best of the best of any metal subgenres, I'd find them here.

I also love horror movies, comics and video games.

Thanks.

Yeah, Utopia's a fav, but the record trail starts there and ends at Newton, so its Utopia, Redeye, Egg etc etc before a few quiet lagers at the Courthouse. The perfect day.

That's an excellent day! :) I find that Red Eye rarely has anything I'm looking for, but it's always worth a look. Also worth going into Haigh's at QVB, haha.

Hello. I 've been on this website for a few years or so. Not really a fan of extreme metal music. Mostly traditional stuff? I guess is what it is called. And thrash the big four. Not the big four losers ha ha. The winners ho ho merry Christmas.

Hi everyone, I'm from London, UK. Originally from Italy, moved to the Kingdom 12 year ago.

The first time that I heard a Heavy Metal song was in 1984. Iron Maiden "Flash Of The Blade" was part of the Dario Argento horror movie "Phenomena" and I friend of mine had a cassette with the music score...I loved that song straight away!
I've start to buy album only from 1986/1987, when I was 11/12 years old: Bon Jovi "Slippery When Wet" and Guns'N'Roses "Appetite For Destruction" followed then by Iron Maiden "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son", Metallica "...And Justice For All", Anthrax "State Of Euphoria", Slayer "South Of Heaven"...then so on from then.

I like Old School Metal, or probably better say every genre of Metal with Old School attitude, influences and sound. Mostly Traditional, Speed, Thrash, U.S. Power and Black Metal but also Hard and Occult Rock. I'm not a big fun of Glam, Power, Doom, Death, Grind, Symphonic , Progressive or Gothic Metal with few exceptions.

I'm off course following with a lot of interest the "New Wave Of Traditional Heavy Metal": A lot of great bands are bringing the sound that I love back!
I'm a fervour supporter of the underground scene, in primis the British and Italian one. Are now years that I'm getting less and less interested in the mainstream scene.

My favourite bands? It's change with my mood. Recently I'm into In Solitude, Attic, Portrait, Years Of The Goat, Visigoth, Metal Church, Bullet, Screamer, Satan, Seven Sisters, Stallion, Watain...

I still buy music, vinyl mostly and magazines (Iron Fist recently)...I just cannot enjoy 100% to listen music without a physical format.

I'm an atheist Satanist...No, I don't worship any entity and I don't think about it as a religion but I'm a stronger "supporter" of the 7 Fundamental Tenets as a life philosophy.

At last but not least I would like to thanks everyone involved in the website: I've been using and abusing the site to search for bands and infos for years now and has been a great and really helpful

Hey all, Chicago area.

Grew up on Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, and Metallica. Started playing bass when I was 14 after discovering Iron Maiden.

I love metal, and the metal underground, but lately I've found myself gravitating towards more atmospheric, meditative music. Aside from metal, I mostly listen to dark ambient and jazz.

I'm not exactly new here, but I haven't been at all active, and this is a sort of new profile, so I might as well do an intro. California metalhead. metal's been a part of my life pretty much as long as I can remember. started with of all things, a NASCAR compilation in 2001. Metallica was on it, as well as some others. from that day on I was hooked. I have a youtube show called Swine Brothers, and am looking to start up a metal podcast. love black, death, speed, thrash, traditional above all else. aside from metal, I'm a huge hardcore punk fan, ambient is a genre i've dabbled in.

Only took a few password resets but I just logged in for the first time in 9 years.

Saw a metal-archives post pop up on my fb for the album of the year thread and remembered I used to have some fun on these forums.

Hello everyone,

It's been a long time ago that i'm browsing the Metal-Archives. First time logging in since high school maybe, I don't really know. Metal has been there for all my life but now i'm listening some other stuff like New Wave, Post-Punk, Synthwave, Progressive Rock, etc... Just wanted to write some stuff to fight my loneliness and melancholy. I'm from Quebec, Canada and open to any sort of discussion !

Cheers !

Hey guys. I've lurked here on and off since I was a kid. It's helped me find some of the bands that would go on to be my favorites. My two favorites are Type O Negative. I also love a lot of plain old classic rock like Led Zeppelin and that sort of thing.

I've been really trying to find new music lately though. I took a break from music and listened to a lot of podcasts because I was just in a place in life where metal lost its joy for me I guess. I've been trying to genuinely try some classic bands I never gave the time of day when I way younger like David Bowie and The Beatles. But I am also still up for new metal.

Besides music I am obsessed with history. Mostly the world wars and Rome but I'll read or watch just about anything having to do with history. I like horror movies, true crime. basically anything morbid.

Hey everybody! I’ve used this website as a resource for metal info for a long time. Always was too intimitated to join the discussion board fray until now. I like all kinds of metal but my favorite band undisputedly is deinitley Bal-Sagoth. I also play guitars and keys in a band :)

Alright, I’m back. I introduced myself two years ago, and then disappeared. This forum is already well-developed and was a little overwhelming to me back then. On top of that, I was (and still am) a member of The Metal Crypt, a nice metal form that has lately gone very dry, and also I’m a member of another forum which is active but full of people who don’t like real metal. Now I’m going to make a more dedicated leap into this forum.

My tastes have changed slightly since I first joined this forum in 2017. I am still a big fan of old school death and thrash metal as my username suggests, but I am also now big on more classical heavy metal and NWOBHM. I’m starting to appreciate doom metal a bit more than before, and I also really like most other types of metal. I liked black metal 10 years ago or more, but now that might be the only genre I don’t quite care for anymore. Slayer and Death are my bread and butter, but I now also love and seek bands in the vein of Manilla Road, Satan, Candlemass, and more varieties.

Also, I was in the US when I joined the forum. I moved to the Shanghai area in China in August 2018 to begin a new career as an international school music teacher. I’m a professional violinist and perform in a symphony in Shanghai in addition to teaching for the school. Music is my life quite literally, and hope that I can contribute to this site even remotely a fraction as much as this site has contributed to my interest in metal.

Heh, I used to write for them like a decade ago. I wasn't a very good fit for the community because I was 19 at the time and didn't really gel with Michel and Sargon's personalities all that well (but mostly I was just young and arrogant and thought I was "above" short reviews and it kinda showed that I was looking down on the site at times), but it was the site I frequented the most before MA so I still have some nostalgia for the place.

Good to have you here, mate.

That’s fun. I bet I read some of your reviews. I discovered that site probably back in 2001 or so and it opened the world of metal to me. I spent tons of hours on there, as I have also done with this site more recently.
Well, let’s be honest, Sargon is a bit hot-headed. But I also find that he and the gang mostly have music taste I can agree with. I really gel well with Luxi on there, but sadly the community just got too small and inactive. I’m making an effort to be active here again because I’m tired of educating a bunch of hardcore fans about metal on the other forum when it’s clear they don’t like it. Hahaha. Plus, this community is booming and looking great. Thanks for the welcome. Cheers!

Did you use the same username on MC for reviews?

Started an account in 2011 (or earlier) been too lazy to introduce myself, recently started using MA again so figured I might as well.
Favorite genre is black metal. Some personal favorites are Taake, Burzum, Gorgoroth, Enslaved, Noenum, Batushka.
Also a big fan of thrash metal, hardcore punk, crust punk, jazz, acoustic, and some hip-hop.
Aside from music, I'm really into movies and literature, thoroughly enjoy writing fiction and movie reviews.
Looking forward to discovering new music through this forum.

Ok well, I've been using MA for a while, maybe it's time to post a bit ? That's a good start.

I'm pretty lazy so let's do it quick. I've been listening to metal since a few years (3 years I guess. shhh, that's a big regret) and I love discovering new shit.
I'm more into Death and Doom (and doom death, fuck yeah) and good old heavy.

Wtf could I say ? I'm Deborah, from Switzerland and I love sarcasm and cats. Oh and old movies, horror ones and all. I'm so original.

Hope I'll post more now and maybe meet awsome people and discover a lot ?

Hey hey people, Refurbished here. I've been a metal fan for most of my short life (2019-2001, quick make the math!)

Fav genres and bands include death metal (Drawn and Quartered, Intestine Baalism, Thousand Leaves, Veiyadra) black metal (Horna, Immortal, Sargeist, Sielunvihollinen) and some thrash (Hirax, Morbid Saint, Toxic Holocaust). Not very big on other subgenres, but hopefully you'll change that! Other than metal, I'm into all sorts of degenerate stuff such as anime and being lonely.

Hello everyone!

I'm a Finnish consumer of black metal, and I am to move to the Grey City of Aberdeen this Autumn. Stuff I'm interested ranges from mathematics to art and stuff, so it is not completely impossible that my nick will pop up here and there all around this forum every now and then, so try not to get too annoyed by me! I just realised I'm horrible at introducing myself.

Hello. I am Nick, a 41 year old on Seattle.
I am new to the forum but not to metal. Have been listening since my sister's boyfriend introduced me to Possessed, Venom, Iron Maiden etc. when I was in grade school.
Grew up on death metal and thrash and later crust, grind etc.. Did a couple small run fanzines as a teen.

Some of the newer bands I am loving are Bell Witch, Vastum, Necrot, Cerebral Rot, Mortiferum

Besides drinking too much strong ale I play WoW and other RPG video games as well as table top games.

Well hello everyone, my name is Ann, and I'm from the netherlands. My favorite bands are Mgla, Vektor and Porcupine Tree (please don't lynch me for that) My hobbies are playing bass guitar (and I suck, but at least I have some fun), painting and making diy patches. I'm kinda new to the genre so forgive me for any stupidities, I try my best to learn as much as possible. Most of my time here is spent clicking random band over and over, but I figured I'd give the forum a try, and if I get the courage I might write some reviews in the future.

I don't know about the others, but I personally won't lynch you for listening to PT. They are an awesome band and lately I've been on Signify listening spree. Welcome to the forum, and welcome to all the new fresh blood!

Hi, I´m Scuttlegoat and explaining my name leads deep into obscure internet culture. Please don´t ask.

I´m into shitty movies, great movies, horror movies. Movies in general. Video Games are also dank. I´m a social worker who enjoys a good beer and loves making movies.

And I love Goats. Goats are the future.

I just realized I never wrote some presentation words, even if I joined in 2011, lol...

I listen metal by 15 years (more or less), mainly black and doom in many forms, so I'm not an all-around expert.
I'm a collector but my collections don't last for along, at some point I feel the need to change. For example recently I decided to sell everything, as you can see by my signature and in the marketplace section.
I'm mainly interested to those bands that try to do something different, breaking traditions, genre boundaries, etc.
I'm back after years, as far as I remember the forum isn't changed (or at least not much), honestly it looks dated to me, I saw better ones, anyway I see some interesting discussions so I'll try again.

Well I think it's enough, see you around

You know, I don't think I've ever said anything here despite being a member for years now. Anyway, my name is an obvious reference to Osmium, my favourite element, due to numerous odd and unique properties.

I am an inspiring scientist and am studying astrophysics. I study all sorts of topics though, including climate, geology, chemistry, and engineering history, particularly steam locomotives. I don't draw as much as I used to, but I still slowly produce some very complicated drawings here and there. The CHM Top Gear was the best television show of all time and I spend much time watching it.

When it comes to metal I am a very large fan of 70's metal, hard rock, and prog and it is what I listen to most. Old school doom I am a large fan of. Thrash metal is another fancy of mine, particularly the hardcore/crossover side, and I like some old school DM. Best record ever is Mercyful Fate's Melissa.

The only music I really listened to before being introduced to the first Sabbath several years ago were old progressive electronic records (Vangelis, early Kraftwerk, Larry Fast, etc.) and some very brief hardcore. Black Flag, that kind of thing.

Hi everyone! I have been a frequent visitor of Encyclopedia Metallum for a while (actually, quite some years!) and always found it a very important source for anything metal. So I finally decided to join.

A little quick about me: I currently live in Sweden, where I was also born, but I grew up in Italy. I started to listen to metal in my childhood and later teens, first "passively" through my older cousin and later on by my own choice. I used to study languages and historical linguistics at university, specialised in Scandinavian/Nordic languages (yeah, sounds kind of nerdy). Luckily I met quite a few metalhead in my field!

Regarding metal, for many years I stuck mainly to trash and classic metal, than I started to explore the Metal universe discovering new genres, bands and styles. I still like trash and classic of course, having added doom (especially death/doom and funeral doom) and death to my favourite genres. Recently I have started to descend the dark path into the abyss.....i.e. I gave black metal a serious shot (so far, so good!). Favourite bands include (early) Metallica, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Grand Magus, Motörhead, Candlemass, Enslaved, Behemoth, Rotting Christ, Opeth, Arkona etc.

I know I will enjoy here, so...bye and Stay metal!!
