Hey folks, kinda new-ish here. Been here for a little while but not made a 'hey, im new' thread. I like most genres of metal, the only style I can't really get into is extremely harsh black metal ala Darkthrone etc. It just bores me a little. Anyways, so yeh, i'm Colum, and glad to be here.

Oh, I'm sorry, I just assumed you were a woman, still clinging to a venomous love for 80's glam. ;)

Nah. Personally I think hair metal is underrated. Sure, there's plenty of awful, awful spewage but the best hair metal is comparable to the best of most other subgenres.

What´s up, guys!?
Hm, I got into metal 4 years ago, but to be honest, it was long a fateful encounter with some elitist bitch at some Forum (hey Thorgrim) that made me turn to real metal music. Hm here a little excerpt:

Agalloch
Dark Age
Dark Tranquillity
Death
Kreator
Sepultura (old of course)
Blind Guardian (prefer the older speedy stuff)
Arcturus
Emperor
Dark Moor

hm there is really a whole lot more but just to give a brief insight...
Raise your horns!

Well, I suppose I should introduce myself.
My name would be Alex. I'm 17, and live in that not so sunny state of Florida. I play the drums, and have a very open mind when it comes to music (in other words, metal is not the only thing for me). Somehow I feel that will work against me on this here site though.

Favorites in the metal genre:
3 Inches of Blood
Shadows Fall
Lamb of God
Necrophagist
The Black Dahlia Murder
Opeth
Sonata Arctica
Dragonforce
Nile
Extol
Into Eternity
Wintersun
Ensiferum
Dark tranquility
Nevermore
Cryptopsy

Non-metal favorites:
Johnny Cash
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Against Me
Avenged Sevenfold
Bad Religion
Billy Joel
Rise Against
Haste the Day
Lords of Acid
The Mars Volta
Fall Out Boy
Motion City Soundtrack
Lynard Skynard
Pink Floyd
Kanye West

Yeah...those turned out to be longer than intended, but they should give you a general idea of my broad musical tastes. (I'm gonna get flamed badly once I start in on any other topics, arent I?)

Hi, I've been using this site for a while now and have finally decided to join the forum. My names Nick and I'm 23 and still excavating the metal underground from the safety of my laptop. Cynical and Nightgaunt might remember me from the sadly-defunct Sonicdeath boards, hello to everyone else here..

As for my favourite bands, here is a shortlist of my Metal favourites:
Black Sabbath
Morbid Angel
Mayhem
Slayer
Burzum
Blut Aus Nord
Immolation
Suffocation
Gorguts
.. and about 20 or so others, mostly Black/Death and also some Doom.

Other stuff:
My Bloody Valentine
Iggy and the Stooges
Neurosis
Slint

Hello, Fractal. Good to "see" you again. You are, unfortunately, one of a few, although perhaps that's for the best.

Greetings to all of the other new users, as well. Take your introduction slow and steady. That usually seems to work out better than other approaches, for one reason or another.

Hi Nightgaunt, I've had a bit of a look around and noted that this is something of a tight ship. The banhammer thread in particular is at first intimidating but is pretty funny. I will behave accordingly and keep this place for serious posting (free-for-all threads aside?).

ps Any idea what happened to Ippocalyptica? It would be a shame to lose touch with him completely.

It's not so much that the ship is tight as that the crew is loose. You shouldn't have any problem at all, though, once you get used to the notion that the general degree of civility is lower, and so long as you have it in you to be at least a bit (or more than a bit, as in my case) of a bastard on occassion. ;)

I've got no idea what happened to Ippo, either, unfortunately. The only two places I can imagine him immediately turning to would be here and Blastwave...well, he's obviously not here, and I can't imagine him wanting anything more to do with Blastwave than I do...so, I dunno. Metal Rules, possibly? Perhaps ANUS? Maybe something not even music-related at all?

Yeah I can do inventive flame-wars, all out arrogant fucker and patronising tosser all quite well when it comes down to it. In fact I quite like eviscerating trolls/flamers. I seem to remember savaging a troll verbally on SD and he disappeared never to re-appear. Quite handy, especially since no-one ever moderated the bloody place haha.

Shame that Ippo has disappeared. He did actually register at Blastwave but hasn't posted once. I post there now, it's a very relaxed atmosphere though they are rather tight-knit. You would definitely consider it overly frivolous. Tao of Now, Bringeroftorture and Chrysalysed post there occasionally as well now. It's still a real shame about Sonicdeath, it was an interesting little community. I got the impression the new admin had moved on from metal a little and stopped caring..

I chat with Ippo on MSN from time to time; he doesn't post on any forums that I know of at the moment, though. Sure as hell not Blastwave. He tends to scorn most members here (not that I can blame him), so I doubt he'll be showing up any time soon.

I know of at least one other music forum ippo posted on, but I know neither how often he posted nor it's name at the moment. I remember him saying (either on SD or slsk) that he was trying to convince some people from another forum to migrate to SD.

Something tells me it was either Metal Rules or Digital Metal.

I joined last year, but I only visit in short bursts, anyhow. I'm Matt, I listen to a lot of Melodic Death Metal and Power Metal.

Ravensfjord here - I live in the South Bay part of the S.F. Bay Area and have been listening to hard rock/metal for a looong time - since '78 or so. Tho' I'm not one of those people would says "oh...yeah the very second I was born I had memorized the entire catalogs of Black Sabbath and Judas Priest frontwards & backwards". There's still stuff from the 70's & 80's I'm still clueless about. I really like a lot of contemporary bands as well.

Older Bands: Acid (Belgium), Accept, Bathory, Black Sabbath, Celtic Frost + Hellhammer, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Dio, Exodus, Heathen, Iron Maiden, Kreator, Mercyful Fate, Metal Church, Metallica (up 'til "Master"), Motorhead, Napalm Death, Running Wild, Scorpions (mostly the Uli-era), axon, Sodom, Running Wild, Slayer (up until "Seasons"), Venom, Voi Vod

90's-now:
Agalloch, Baroness, Carcass, Darkthrone, Doomsword, Draguar, Eikenskaden, Enslaved, The Fucking Champs, Impaled, Kalmex & The Riffmerchants, Kylesa, Lair of the Minotaur, Leviathan, Morbid Angel, Neurosis, Nootgrush, Nortt, Om, Skepticism, Sleep, Slough Feg, Minotauri, Grey, Until Death Overtakes Me, My Dying Bride, Skyclad, Solstafir, Solstice (UK), Warhammer, Xasthur

Non-Metal:

TONS of hardcore/punk (the real shit, not much into 'metal-core') - Angelic Upstars, The Business, Buzzcocks, The Damned, DRI, MDC, Skitsystem, "Bloodstains Across..." and "Killed By Death" comps., Born/Dead, Wolfbrigade, Aus-Rotten, Voetsek, Behind Enemy Lines, Deadfall, Godstomper, Really Red, DKs, Black Flag, Adolescents, World Burns To Death,

+ Proto-metal/heavy psych, noise/industrial, dark ambient, classical, blues, jazz, old-ass country, prog-rock, some non-mainstream hip-hop, international, gabber techno, ambient, experimental, sample art.

Well, I've already made a dozen or so posts before seeing this, but what the hell. Greetings, I'm Rob. I live in the surprisingly metal city of Cleveland, Ohio. I play bass for Embalmer and Scarvers Calling and guitar for Gutrot. I've also played in such bands as NunSlaughter, Dislimb, Necrotic Disgorgement, Corpulate and Thoushaltnot, among others... including one band who I refuse to mention because of the mind boggling levels of poserdom they have displayed since my departure. I enjoy a somewhat wide variety of music ranging from all styles of death metal (brutal, old school, tech, slam, etc.), black metal, thrash, grind and traditional metal to hardcore, punk, classic rock, classical music, blues, jazz and even a few "radio" bands such as Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. A short list of some of my favorite bands: Immolation, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Dissection, Suffocation, Gorgasm, Mutilated, Hemdale, Intense Hammer Rage, Possessed, Destruction, Vision of Disorder, Uncurbed, Dead Kennedys, Soulless, Acid Bath, Scattered Remnants, Jethro Tull, Miles Davis, older Sepultura (from Chaos A.D. back), Cryptopsy, Manticore, Impetigo, etc etc...

I enjoy imported beer (the only American beer that I like is PBR for some odd reason), top shelf whiskey, Camel cigarettes, b-grade horror movies, the literary masterpieces of JRR Tolkein, BC Rich basses, Jackson Guitars, Peavy amps, Italian women, perky c-cup breasts, shaved female genitals, violent video games, firearms, baseball and watching people get into long winded, drawn out arguments on the internet, and sometimes engaging in them if I have absolutely nothing better to do at the time.

I dislike numetal, misguided metal elitism (ok, you like obscure bands. I like a few obscure bands myself. Do you want an award?), drugs as far as my body is concerned... I've haven't so much as smoked pot in over a year but I don't care what anyone else does with theirs. I DESPISE bad drivers, emo scenester kids and their gay fucking fashion show bullshit, millitant straightedge/vegan people, HxC dancing thug-core moshpit ninjas, the adolescent drama that so many females seem to thrive upon, religious fundamentalists, the United States Government, bad drivers, rap/hiphop, country music and people who are content with being stupid and/or ignorant.

I now await my obligatory newbie-bashing.

Wow, the forum finally has a professional metal musician here since Shadow Of Death. By a poserdom band you mean Chimaira?

Actually, the vocalist for Demilich has posted here once or twice on occassion. At least he went by his name. Assuming this is true or not is yet to be proven.

Hi, My name's Mike. I'm a 22 year old grad student in Materials Science at MIT. I've been addicted to metal for a couple of years now and still expanding my knowledge base.

I do like the lack of Avatars, it makes everything cleaner and more compact.

Hahaha... yeah, them unfortunately. When I joined that band they played excellent hardcore with slight metal aspects but in the 8 months I was with them, they slowly began drifting towards numetal, which was one of the reasons why I left. Now all the sudden they're "metal as fvkk"???

There are still a couple members and ex members of the band whom I like as people, but I have zero respect for the bands ethic.

What is that supposed to mean? Many of the users here play in professional bands.

Really? I didnt knew that.

Well it depends on your outlook of pofessional. It's hard to say that playing in a band can be a person's one and only profession, unless you happen to play in Iron Maiden or something. I personally play in multiple bands that could be considered professional. We may not be uber popular but we have recorded material and released it, played shows, even opened for a few more popular bands(Goatwhore and Dying Fetus in New Orleans 2 years ago).

Hey.

My name is Christian Juntunen. I'm 16 years old and have been listening metal since my 11th or 12th. My favorite genres are Grindcore, Black Metal and Death Metal. I like other musical genres too, though. Like dance music (Daft Punk, Air, Cassius etc.) and the more technical electronical music (Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards Of Canada etc.) or ambient/darkwave/industrial (Wongraven, Wumpscut, Kreuzweg Ost etc.) and I even like some rap/hiphop like Public Enemy.

My favorite (metal) bands at this moment are:
Nargaroth,
Birdflesh,
1349,
Arcturus,
Eisregen and
Blind Guardian.

Hi, my name's Matt, I'm from the US :(.

I'm really into melodic death metal and power metal, though I listen to a lot of avant garde, prog, and folk, I also have some guilty pleasures, like Underoath's new stuff, Unearth, Avenged Sevenfold, and Killswitch Engage, I dunno, I like a little bit of everything.

I'd also like to say I'm really into oldschool 80's hardcore like Minor Threat and the Circle Jerks, so it kinda pisses me off when people call garbage like Trivium and As I Lay Dying hardcore.

My favorite bands:

Lilitu
Opeth
In Flames
Kalmah
Moonsorrow
