Yes, you should. I watched it too as a kid, and I must say it is overall one pretty awesome show when I rewatched the actual unedited version of it.

I tried watching Ergo Proxy because of this thread, and I must say I feel the exact same way.

After I gave up on it I began to re-watch Cowboy Bebop, and I must say that I absolutely love that show. Fuck Evangelion and all those stupid shows that people claim are the best animes, Cowboy Bebop is really where it's at! Not too pretentious and over-the-top as a lot of these animes are; just pure bad-assery with great characters and great animation that's just dark and gritty. What adds more to my enjoyment of the show is the fact that Spike reminds me of myself sometimes, especially with his apathetic, nihilistic views and how notoriously laid back he is. Something I love but at the same time I detest about him. Just a great fucking show!

Let me ask you, do you like FLCL? Despite the fact that I said earlier that I disliked a lot of animes because of how over-the-top and pretentious they are, FLCL is one of the exceptions for me. Loved the animation, the music, and characters. I tell you, playing energetic pop-punk during those really intense action sequences really did the job for me. And though the story was a bit incoherent and barely made sense, I still enjoyed it (Trust me, it's there. I've seen the series many times, and though it took me a while, it's there, and I think its great! Though it is hard to understand it.)

I see most of you like Gundam, Berserk and Cowboy Bebop, but where's the love for One Piece, Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood is much better than the original) and Bleach? No matter how many anime I have seen, a few can compare to those 3. Especially the War Of The Best Ark in One Piece and the Arrancar Saga in Bleach.
Anyway, except those 3, I really like Devil May Cry, Fairytail, Kuroshitsuji (only the first season) and Death Note. Lately I started watching D.Gray-man, but it's kinda boring until now (20th episode).

I'm watching the Hokuto no Ken OVA, called (translation from the Italian version, dunno what it's called elsewhere) ''Ken: the legend of Raoul the dominator of the sky'', focusing on Ken's brother Raoul and his quest for absolute power. Amazing animation and detail, lots of blood and gruesome death (the original series was censored here, people exploded in blue sparks). Raoul is extremely badass, and I'm enjoying the series very much, though the storyline is extremely simple as you should expect from such combat based stuff.

That was freaking awesome! I'm very picky with my anime like you. I prefer beautifully crafted characters and atmosphere to large-eyed, whiny anime chicks with stupid hairdos and blank personalities. Don't get me wrong I never ditch a series because of the artistic style I don't like. It's just that most anime released nowadays is way too cliché-ridden, doesn't even try to be original nor it has any kind of defining feeling in it.

They're already making fun of it

Just finished watching Cowboy Bebop again, after some 9 years since the last time I saw it. Really excellent anime, indeed, with a superb soundtrack.

However, I think the series is way too short. IMO, many plot-lines should have been further developed, specially in the cases of Vicious and Spike.

But good things come in small packages, I guess.

Yeah, forgot to mention that one XD I´ve already watched it like 10 or so... and I still don´t quite get it haha. Bu hey... one can´t argue with an anime that uses guitars as weapons of awesome power lol. Also an awesome choice is Baccano, pretty god story and characters, but also a bit confusing

I really hated FLCL to be honest. Same with Diebuster (what a horrible sequel to Gunbuster). I just can't stand that style of art/animation, the only exception to me has been Gurren Lagann.

I'd like to rewatch Cowboy Bebop in Japanese someday, turns out one of my favorite voice actors plays Faye in Japanese (Megumi Hayashibara).

Speaking of Outlaw Star I rewatched all of that a few weeks back in Japanese as well. I gotta say it was nice seeing it uncensored and all that. The first 10 episodes and all that were pretty damn solid, but after that it got really episodic until the last three episodes or so, and it was just kind of randomness. Overall though it was fun. Another season or so would have been nice probably. Gotta love late 90's cel drawn anime as well, the show looked gorgeous to me. Now among Bebop I'd like to rewatch Trigun in Japanese as well eventually, and Big O is one I need to hit up, I never caught much of that back in the day on Toonami.

Big One Piece fan myself, the latest arc was fucking mindblowing. I'm never touching Bleach though, sounds like the show is 80% filler and all my friends that have been following it for years have all come to hate it honestly. Speaking of Fairy Tail though I just started that one up recently and I'm digging it so far, definitely feels like One Piece which is cool with me.

FLCL is a 'coming of age' story. Don't try to read too much into it, it's all about the brat transitioning from a kid to a man. However, there are differences between the manga and the anime that make it less obvious in the anime.

Also, seconding Baccano. I didn't find it really all that confusing, though. At least not past the first four or five episodes, at that point one should be able to follow all the timelines, no matter how mixed they are. But yeah, the first few episodes tend to make the viewer go "OMGWTFLOLWUT?".

Well, the only one anime that I know is Pokemon. The first time I've seen it on TV in 2001. I became a Pokemon fan and start to collect cards, caps and had a t-shirt. But russian company which translated Pokemon into Russian and put it on TV end it after 110+ first episodes. So from 2002 to 2008 I almost forgot about Pokemon. But in 2008 I decided to watch episodes again and 350+ episodes was downloaded from torrents and watched. After that I was tired of watching them and stop it. But it seems to be watching them again soon :) It's a part of my childhood and I don't care that I'm 20 years old. I'm still in love with those strange creatures and no matter how stupid is this anime. I like it! And I have no interest to watch other anime. Pokemon, only Pokemon!
My favorite one is Wobbuffet. Because it's like me. It never strikes first.

Pokémon forever
I like that shit, the first couple of seasons at least...
Just finished watching Pet Shop of Horrors, pretty intense actually, I liked it. Though there are only 4 episodes, there could be more stories developed for anime, and not just the manga.

I'm wacthing BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, and it is also interesting... I didn't like the first 2 or 3 episodes, but after that the thing is just great, lots of rock, and the cultural references are magnificent. One of my latest favorites, I gotta say.

Next thing will be Kuroshitsuji.

old school Pokemon are the only real Pokemon. generation 3 and 4 are the equivalent of deathcore.

I didn't read through this, 7 pages is a lot to catch up on.

I'm bringing this bitch back from the dead, basically so we can all jack-off over the greatest anime series ever.

Bokusatsu tenshi Dokuro-chan (2005) (AKA Club-to-Death Angel Dokuro-chan, AKA Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan).

Man, the art is wow. I mean it takes the insane fast style of FLCL and just pumps it full of crack and steroids.

Jeez man, really, it's fucking, holy shit, holy holy fucking shit.

Anyone else a fan?

Aye. It's not the be all end all of anime, but I found both seasons funny. It probably helps that it's short, too. And ridiculous, I like ridiculous humour.

I'm currently watching Sayonara Zetsoubo Sensei (or whatever it's spelled like), by a friend's recommendation.

While it's good, with lot of comedic values and sometimes quite intriguing art, the amount of inane, nonsensical stuff going on every episode makes it somewhat difficult to watch non-stop. I'm currently at episode 9, and I watch one or two episodes every other day, as the crazyness or odd/out of place segments amd pseudo-mini-plots are sometimes just too much.

Anyway, it's fun to watch, and I recommend it to anyone who liked they're anime insane and oddball weird.

Nope, but I do watch that other one by the same people who made CCS, I can't remember the name of it though.

Most of the anime I watch and my favorites are more along the lines of Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll.

Then moving a little away from the badassery toward like, Trigun and Wolf's Rain...

Oh, but back onto cute stuff... FRUITS BASKET! OMFG! MOMIJI IS SO FUCKING FUNNY AND CUTE! Especially when he does is fake crying shit, "waahh, Kyo hit me, wahhh, wahhh wahhh." >_<

THEN FOLLOW IT UP WITH VULGARITY! FLCL and Bokusatsu tenshi Dokuro-chan! YES!

I'm a bit eclectic I guess?

OH well there are others I like that I didn't even list, that's just some of what I like.

Aside from that, I've seen a ton that I just didn't really care for all that much, Bible Black, Appleseed, yak yak yak.

Oh, I loved Akira too, that's one I forgot to mention that's in an even more different vein than all the stuff I already listed.

Also how does 200+ gigs on anime automatically make you eccentric in a different way? Also, when I said that earlier, I meant eclectic, aha ha ha.

Oh other anime I saw that I didn't like that I just remembered, anything Dragon Ball/DBZ/DBGT etc, I love FMA:B, really tried and wanted to like Trinity Blood and though the concept was really cool, but the execution was weak and didn't really fit. Like how they made the Cruschek's (sp?) weapons out of CG and that's the only thing, while everything else in animated. That just made it look really stupid and out of place. Then for what it was, I think it should have had a more mature animation style to it like Cowboy Bebop or Vampire Hunter D or Akira something and be less cartoony.

I can keep going when I have the time to sit down and think of all the stuff I've seen and I can list what did and didn't like.

I love the Claymore manga, though lately it is getting a little ridiculous since Clare is ???? but the anime of it was pretty cool, could have been better though considering what it entails.

So, I finished watching the English sub of the first two seasons of Hetalia: Axis Powers (why doesn't Funimation dub everything???). It's pretty amazing. It's basically what you'd get if you went to a history class, and the teacher said, "Okay class, today we're going to learn about world history through this Yaoi!" which is basically a dream come true. The narrator is amazing as well, and the show is basically one of the most witty yet adorable things I've ever seen.

I've been watching some Ep's from SS with my gf. The series gets better with each season.

I showed her Monster. She found it incredible excepting for the final.

To the emotional guy who watches Sailor Moon too, check Kanon 2006 and Clannad. You'll cry a river, especially with the former. Clannad is - at first - pretty cheerful but the second season is really miserable. Still, you'll have a good laugh from time to time.

Maybe you're into the Magic Knight Reyearth? The 'mechas' are awesome.

Well I mean, to make me cry a river, I don't know.

I've watched the entire Cowboy Bebop series about 30 times now and every single time, on the very end of the very last episode, I cried, EVERY SINGLE TIME! >_<

Its a good series, I could see Berserk fans liking it, I would think the best Korean one I know.

As for Berserk, I got only one more chapter to go before I am caught up, then will come the painful waiting... :(

200 gigs and aprox 200+ hours of anime. downloaded and watched all in the past 2 months Oh yeah you might like http://myanimelist.net/ for having a good compiled list.

Because Funimation Sucks pretty hard. The only good English dubs I have heard in my 10 years of watching anime have been Haruhi Suzumiya No yuutsu (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) (which i'm pretty sure isn't done my Funimation, Sekirei, Shuffle!, and like two others which escape me at the moment.

Well imo FUNimation is getting better. They just recently picked up Rosario+Vampire and Sora no Otoshimono (which are two of my personal favs) and the actors seem good. The R+V cast is basically 95% of sekirei so it will be good. Well, practice makes perfect.

Is the ending of Death Note specifically designed to be the most frustrating, unsatisfying thing in the universe? If so, by god they succeeded.

Naaaah, you're overreacting... It was cruel indeed, but kind of cool also...

Oh my god, it's so fucking infuriating. Really, that's how it fucking ends? Light gets defeated by a fucking 10 year old who switches out the notebooks? Are you fucking joking? All the characterization goes to fucking shit, Mikami goes completely insane and irrational when before he did everything flawlessly, and the same goes for Light. Seriously, you do Light in like that? A guy who through the entire series has perfect control over what's happening, shows an insane force of will, and completely dominates the story suddenly turns into a pathetic bitch in the last episode who does nothing right? Oh my god, so much bullshit. I really loved the series and thought it was incredibly cool (I'd avoided watching it for a long time because its fanbase sucks so badly) and then the last episode happens and it cocks up the entire story. 36 episodes getting us to love Light and root for him as one of the coolest protagonists in any modern anime and they fuck it up in the last moment. So disappointing.

BTW FUCK Near. If L had gotten him I would have been way less disappointed, but fucking for real, Light gets taken out by a kid who spends most of the series playing with legos. Fuck that.

I haven't watched the Death Note anime, but the ending for the manga nearly ruined the rest of the series for me. Frustrating and unsatisfying sums it up perfectly.

I've been looking up the differences and they seem basically the same. I wasn't a big L fan or anything, but Near and Mello are such transparently lame replacements for him it defies description, and to have THEM take out Light is ridiculous. Honestly, if it had ended after the first season, with L's death and Light gearing up to take over the world, it would have been just about perfect. It seems that it really shits the bed in the second season in general, where everything becomes way less believable and interesting and all the intensity is sort of sapped in addition to the weird yo-yo characterization. Misa's one of the worst cases- she literally just does whatever the writers feel like having her do at any given moment, regardless of whether it makes sense or not. Which sucks because I loved Misa.

On another note, I just finished watching Claymore the other day, which is the total antithesis to the above as it's probably the most satisfied I've ever been with an anime series. Great, consistent characterization, cool action, a gripping story with tons of surprises, and no cheap deus ex machina plot devices.

I don't know man, I liked the ending a lot. As I said, kind of cruel... But cool. That's how it works...
Playing with legos...

And also... L's death was one of the best moments, the more dramatic one at least, just followed by the end.

You know, I probably could have even tolerated it if Light became a Shinigami for using the death note. But no. Just oblivion. I'm totally inappropriately raging about this shit.

I have noticed that... Oblivion is what you deserve when you want to become a fucking god with a twisted sense of justice. Period.
