I wouldn't give them 100%, but those two AFI albums are indeed really, really good. As a guy who was introduced to them through the awful, awful Sing the Sorrow, imagine how hard my mind blew the first time I heard Black Sails in the Sunset. I had no idea they used to be good.

Black Sails is the only thing I really like by AFI, because it reminds me of a certain time in my life, but I'll tip my cap to that album as well. I wouldn't say it's a 100% by any stretch, but a damned good pop album.

Mentioned Herbie Hancock's Headhunters album in the free for all thread, which made me remind myself I need to add Sextant to my 100% list.

Having read the last few comments I went and listened to the album - I think if I'd heard this album as a 13-year-old I'd consider it a classic, but as it stands, it reminds me of a second-rate version of Offspring's Smash album (which I heard when I was about 8, and probably only consider classic for that reason)...

Smash is fun as hell. Sometimes I love the Offspring. Ixnay on the Hombre is a great album, too.

I grew up on The Offspring, and they're probably the only band I loved when I was 8 that I still love now. Splinter doesn't get nearly enough love, it has some great songs on it. Also their newest album has my new favorite Offspring track.

At least you were introduced to AFI by something that wasn't total shit. The first AFI song I heard was Miss Murder. Now that sucks.

The Offspring are interesting. Their last two albums had some real gems but overall they were quite weak in my opinion. Before that though, from their debut to Splinter, they were the best band out of a sorry pop-punk group.

Another few albums:
Bad Religion - Suffer
Fugazi - 13 Songs
The Ramones - Rocket to Russia
The Clash - London Calling
Blondie - Parallel Lines
The Misfits - Walk Among Us
The Misfits - Earth A.D.
The Misfits - Collection
The Misfits - Collection II
The Misfits - Famous Monsters
Actually the entire Misfits discography minus American Psycho and The Devil's Rain. Amazing band! If you don't know them, well listen to them! They're great.

Always thought "Very Proud of Ya" was AFI's best... couldn't really stomach anything after that.

From music of that ilk that I was listening to at that time in my life I'd say Propaghandi's "How to Clean Everything" probably deserves 100%.

Rise and Fall is a weird anomaly because usually their singles suck and the rest of the songs are good ("The Kids Aren't Alright" seems to be the previous exception) but it was reversed on that album. The only non-single that I liked was "Stuff is Messed Up", and even then they released a video for it still. The new album is also kind of weird because all the bad songs sound like bad Offspring songs ("OC Guns" and "California" can burn in hell for all I care, and "I Want a Secret Family with You" sounds like Katy Perry), but all the good songs sound like good Rise Against songs. So I guess they're adapting, but it's kinda sad to see them ripping off a band they inspired.

Compare:
Secrets from the Underground
Prayer of the Refugee

The songs are constructed the same way and the chorus is practically identical.

I see what you mean! Never thought of it like that. Then again that may be because I don't really follow Rise Against.

Frank Zappa - Hot Rats

This album has everything I love about Zappa on one album. Mad scientist jazz, hilarity, mean guitar chops and a theory know-how second to none.

Well, there's no denying that Hot Rats is phenomenal. But I hardly think it deserves a perfect score. It depends on the mood you're listening to it. But it's clearly Zappa's best album, alongside with Joe's Garage Acts.

It's an absolute 100% for me.

I can take or leave Joe's Garage. Waka/Jawaka gets me moist, though.

Head on the Door is an interesting pick. What sets that apart from the rest of their catalogue for you? I like that one quite a bit myself. If I had to pick a favorite Cure album it would probably have to be Disintegration, though. They really perfected their craft on that one.

In their own way, Faith and Pornography are perfect albums too.

Head On the Door is that perfect transitional point in their career that has some of the best sounds of their older stuff and hinted at what to follow. Perfect flow to the album, and the non-single tracks are the ones that really make it special, like "Blood", "The Baby Screams", and "Kyoto Song". No two songs sound alike on this album. Favorite song on there for me is "Push", and it saddens me that there's all these people who love Disintegration but have never heard "Sinking". The Cure is probably my favorite band of all time right along with Iron Maiden.

Some more albums I'd add to my list:

Can- Tago mago, ege bamyasi, future days
One of the most inventive and unique bands ever, they were on a roll with 3 experimental psychedelic rock masterpieces in a row, each one sounding different then the previous one.

Miles davis- in a silent way
Classic jazz fusion album, every second is perfect, great chill out album.

Frank zappa- Freak out, we're only in it for the money, hot rats, the grand wazoo, overnite sensation, apostrophe, one size fits all, lather.
There are a few other zappa albums that come close to being 100% as well.

The chameleons- script of the bridge, what does everything mean basically, strange times. 3 classic post punk albums in a row, well strange times doesn't sound nearly as post punkish but is equally amazing.

R.E.M.- Murmur, Automatic for the people, Reckoning
Maybe would add life's rich pageant to this list as well, but needs a few more listens first.

Love- forever changes
One of the most amazing psychedelic rock albums ever, the songwriting on this release is just impeccable.

Really need some more Can and Rudimentary Peni in my life.

Non metal albums of greatness:

The Undead - Dawn of The Undead
The Dickies - Dawn of The Dickies
Captain Beefheart - Safe As Milk (Trout Mask Replica, why in the fuck is that first album people steer others towards? Beefheart has many phases, his first more punkish/garagey/psychedelic blues album the best one)
Roky Erickson & The Aliens - The Evil One
Jerusalem - Self Titled
Flag of Democracy - Shatter Your Day
Devo - Hardcore Vol.2
Subhumans (canada) - Death Was Too Kind
The Eat - It's Not The Humidity, It's The Eat
The Coasters - any decent best of with all their songs on it
Hubble Bubble - self titled
Ween - The Pod
Moistboyz - I & II
Wire - Pink Flag

If there was anything I'd like to get more into its Italian prog and the music of Ennio Morricone

Cro-Mags - The Age of Quarrel (it's often considered "crossover thrash" but it's still NYHC at it's core.
FEAR - The Record
Mr. Bungle - California

@Fallen Soldier - +50 internets for The Joshua Tree. Running to Stand Still is probably the highlight of their career.

Probably my main one:

Electric Light Orchestra - Strange Magic: The Best of Electric Light Orchestra
This might be cheating, but given how rarely it is that I find a greatest hits compilation that actually does a band/artist justice, I gotta tip my hat to this one. Pretty much flawlessly combines all of the bands best work into 2 CD's. CD's that are routinely on my musical rotation, mind you.

More to come as I remember them.

Maybe not 100%, but SaM is a really good and catchy album. I think only Grown So Ugly is the weaker track among the awesome classics like Zig-zag Wanderer, Dropout Boogie and Autumn's Child. It's kinda weird, that such a fella does so beautiful music at times. Anyways, so far it remains my favourite Beefheart album. Suits for many occasions.

Holy, good question.

I think my favorite non-metal album might be Genesis - Selling England by The Pound. Perfect in every conceivable way. Music straight from the heart and soul.

Abso-fucking-lutely. Perfectly composed, and incredible melodies. On a side note, I think a heavy/power metal version of "Dancing with the Moonlit Knight" would be cool.

Other 100% albums:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennae to Heaven. Perfect atmosphere and soundscapes. Of the four epic tracks on this album I cannot possibly choose a favorite. Whenever I want to spend 80 minutes listening to this, it's an incredible journey where it's joyous and uplifting, dark and cynical, depressing, and angry until the last track lets go of every strong emotion with a melancholic and content drone. Perfect.

Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn. I never got the hype for Tubular Bells, which was pretty much an experiment that is cool to listen to probably twice. This album is drenched in smooth soundscapes and incredible guitar playing. I probably listened to this album 10 times just sunk in the mystical, folky atmospheres before I realized how virtuoistic the guitar playing was as well. Definitely a masterpiece.

Dead can Dance - Within the Realm of a Dying Sun. The incredibly dark vibe on this album is unlike any other album I've heard. "Xavier" "Summoning of the Muse" and "Cantara" all are great examples of how DCD present a very ominous vibe.

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here. I probably don't need to add anything else on this album.

I'd also submit "The Grand Wazoo" as far as Zappa goes.

my top 5

Van Morrison - Moondance (this album is insane, folk rock jazz rnb soul in one EP..classic)
The Strokes - Is This It (one of the best rock albums of the '00s, i listened to a lot of The Strokes when i was a younger)
Radiohead - Kid A (one of my fav albums of all time..and to a lot of ppl as well (?)
My Bloody Valentine - This is Your Bloody Valentine (THE best shoegaze band ever)
Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil (one of my fav non-metal bands, technically, this is a great album, the guitar work on each track is sick)

The first four albums by Pearl Jam are perfection, Eddie´s voice was just magic and their compositions were so deep
one of the greatest rock bands i had the pleasure to listen.

Animals by Pink Floyd, always a favourite of mine along with WYWH and TDSOTM. The lyrics are just unmatchable, the whole concept of the album is genius and of course the musical aspect is 10 out of 10, Gilmour/Waters at their peak.

Dunno why but i love Favourite Worst Nightmare by Arctic Monekeys, always brings me good vibes and shit...
its one of those guilty pleasures of mine.

Despedazado en Mil Partes by the argentinean band La Renga its an all time rock and roll classic
all the songs are anthemic and full of rage, Chizzo´s voice is pure rock.

In The Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson...do i have to sa something about this record? a progressive rock
masterpice from the begining to the end, Epitaph its one of the greates ballads ever.

Neil Young´s Harvest...the master with his harmonica and the legendary acustic guitar.

I'm sure there are plenty more but here are the ones off the top of my head.

Fever Ray - Fever Ray. Every single fucking track is not only perfect, but ingeniously unique. I wouldn't even know how to categorize this album but I suppose atmospheric-doom-ambient-electronica-avant-triphop comes close enough. Such vivid soundscapes encompass this album. For some intangible reason the album paints the craziest imagery in my head. More so than any other music I have ever heard. It certainly is a magical release if there ever was one.

Pink Floyd - Meddle, Darkside of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall. Not much to say about these that has not already been said, but all are equally deserving of a perfect score in my mind, with DSotM and Animals being my personal favorites.

Slint - Spiderland. The end of Good Morning Captain. The rest is phenomenal as well but.... damn. The last minute of Good Morning Captain. Thats all that needs to be said. (I always feel like the album is a 37 minute build up for 1 minute of music. It's perfect though, as strange as that sounds.)

A few I'm just going to throw out there without going into detail:
System of a Down - Toxicity
Cage - Movies for the Blind
Warren Zevon - Excitable Boy
Wu Tang Clan - 36 Chambers
Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against Machine

That's an excellent pick. Are you familiar with her main project The Knife? If not, I'd check out their album "Silent Shout". If you like what you're hearing on Karin's solo release, then you'll like this.

Marillion: Everything with Fish, Clutching at Straws being the 105 % album. Phenomenal stuff all the way.

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible. the everyone's hipsterband. People tell me Funeral is easily their best, I think it's straight out boring compared to this fucking awesome album.

Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce Committee Part Two & Check Your Head. I have all the Beastie-albums, but these are the most frequently played. Kill€r$hit.

D.A.D. - Riskin' It All. The god damn ultimate feelgood rock-anthem-blast.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery. The reason, Karn motherfucking Evil 9. Possibly the best song of all times. The rest hold their own.

Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon, duh.

Ulver - Perdition City & Shadows of the Sun. Perfect stuff for midnite chill.

Neil Young - After the Gold Rush. Superb song material, slightly better than Harvest (99 %).

I have given the Knife a few listens but not enough to really dig in. I will definitely be giving "Silent Shout" a listen. Fever Ray has been one of those albums I can just throw on and be satisfied with when I don't know what I'm in the mood to listen to.

Drone isn't all they do, either. I enjoy all of their rock songs and plunderphonics/mashups, those are always hilarious. They've covered a lot of ground already, and there's still more to come. Honestly, if I could only listen to one band for the rest of my life, it'd be them, since they've already have most bases covered (they still don't have any death/grind tracks yet, but they've already said they'll do that).

I'd say a lot of similar things about Njiqahdda. They have some non-metel releases I'd give 100% to.

But I did not know Bull of Heaven was such a diverse group. I always knew them (like most others) as the drone band with ridiculously long songs. What would you recommend for Bull of Heaven albums?

There are quite a few strong contenders, but The Cure's Disintegration is a beautiful monster of an album I can listen to anytime, without reservations. What a production.

The Flashbulb - Arboreal

It's just a perfect electronic album imo. Supremely relaxing, and each of the songs is quite unique.
