I have tasted the Breakfast Stout a while ago at a concert, it was for sure great, but it was really cold and served in a simple plastic glass.
Looking forward to taste it at home.

Got home from my England trip a few days ago and brought some stuff with me:

Some Buxton, Omnipollo, Evil Twin, Cloudwater, Northern Monk, Left Handed Giant, Verdant.
Even a norwegian beer you can't get here in Norway ( Messed up alcohol politics here)

Drinking the '' Even More Pecan Pie Jesus '' now.
Heavy one, but tasty!
Lots of pecan taste for sure, and sweet.
But with a nice bitterness also.

Pouring myself a Bourbon in addition was maybe to much, ha, oh well.

Tomorrow I'll be in Malaysia, which sucks for beer (unless I can find some decent duty free in Langkawi), but in a couple of weeks I'll be in Vietnam. Can anyone recommend anything there? I'm aware of Pasteur Street.

Hehe.
The only place that can sell beer over 4,7% is called ''Vinmonopolet''
So if they dont take it into their system, well good luck getting it....
They have release of new beers every second month, thats when new stuff can get avilable.
It's a government-owned alcohol store/system.

The brewery can't even sell their own beer over 4,7%.

Wondering what goodies I should crack open tonight, not that I really celebrate New Year's Eve anyway, but one can always hope the world ends!

Never tried the red Chimay, maybe I should.
Not that into dubbels though.
Triples are my favorite when it comes to Belgian beer.

Just cracked my bottle of ''Death From Above'' from Garage Ptoject now.
Good beer, to bad it's a little old now.
Can't even get this one anymore here now.

I'm currently drinking a Paulaner Münchner Hell, classic lager from Germany. Good lager, very enjoyable.

It was completely off the market for a while due to a cotroversy over the name. It's back now under the name DFA, so maybe you'll see it again soon.

Yes I read about that stuff, glad they still make the beer!
Hopefully I will get it again one day.

I have these GP beers in my basement now:

Verbotene Früchte
Sauvin Nouveau 2018
Triple Day Of The Dead
Hellbender (2016 or 2017)
Aro Noir

I am the kind of guy that drink cheap beer. Everytime I go to the grocery store, I'm looking between Old Milwaukee Dry, Pabst Blue Ribbon and Rolling Rock (they are the same price for a twelve pack in my city). Rolling Rock is always the winner because I am always fascinated about how it's one of the cheapest beer now (before it wasn't) and it's the Angry Video Game Nerd favorite beer. I kind of like playing some old school games and drinking Rolling Rock. For the fancy ones, I like Hoegaarden, Leffe and Unibroue.

I think my new favorite beer is Madtree Luna Lux White IPA. Kinda sucks that it comes in cans and not bottles but I can forgive that. It's a 6% ABV which is perfect for what I can typically handle. I'm sure it's a seasonal though so I'll have to find something else after the winter.

Currently drinking Terrapin Up-Hi IPA. It's pretty good. Pretty comparable to New Belgium's Citradellic though not quite as great as that one.

I went to a city closeby with my wife last night . I had a Lagunitas IPA (always delicious) and at the second bar there was a tap takeover from Fortnight from the United States. I had a Fortnight Pendragon porter and lastly a Gulpener Winter IJsbock.

And the meats and cheeses were amazing too.

Anyone ever had Westvleteren? I had all three of those and they're really great! They are not supposed to be sold anywhere else but from the monastery in Belgium. Though you can get it from any liquor store around here. I suppose it's hard to get though when you're not really near Belgium.

I did read some articles recently about supermarkets selling this quite expensive and "breaking" the selling politics of the monastery:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/mar/13/beer-brewing-belgian-monks-accuse-retailer-ethical-breach-westvleteren

Woutjinho wrote:
Yeah I know, it's not a big deal actually. Like I said, pretty much every liquor store sells it for that price or even higher. This is just the first time they somehow noticed. But it's a pain in the ass to call the monks, you have a few hours per day to make an appointment and you to spend days to make a schedule and then drive there. If they don't want it to be sold for 10 euros, they shouldn't make it almost impossible to get. Crazy Christians.

I was offered this yerterday for 15€ / bottle.

We got a small load of the Westvleteren here in Norway last year, I bought one bottle.
Price was about 20 Euro :P

Not sure when I will crack it open though.

That's insane because it's not that expensive at the Abbey in Belgium. A colleague of mine actually goes there from time to time. His license plate is registered because you're only allowed to visit once every 6 or 9 months when you have an appointment. Which is terrible to get because there's only one line and one monk answering the phone.

Right, which means that bottles that you don't buy directly from them or their limited authorized sellers (I think only certain cafes affiliated with the abbey?) are technically grey market, so of course there's going to be an absurd upcharge considering the reputation of the beer, the limited supply and the rules about selling it. I paid like $50/bottle for a few bottles of it here in Korea...worth it for the experience since I have no idea if I'd ever find it again.

St Bernardus Abt 12, also from an Abbey in Belgium. This quadrupel is more widely available because it doesn't have these rules. This is not a trappist though which doesn't mean anything. You should try this one as well.

He, I have a 0,33 and 0,75 bottle of this one in my basement.
Should crack one of them soon.

For those of you who aren't connected on Untappd (it's in my sig), Vietnam beer is no joke. On my short visit, I was pretty satisfied with what I was able to try. Of course the fancier stuff is way more expensive compared to macro lagers, but compared to what I pay in NZ it's pretty reasonable. Some nice beers had at 7 Bridges brew bar with the magnificent view of the Dragon Bridge from their rooftop.

Nice! When I was in Vietnam, quality beer wasn't even on my radar really. I just wanted to eat tons and therefore drank a whole lot of cheap Vietnamese macro lager (often with ice in it!).

Another trip to Japan, another round of good beer drinking. Found a lot to like about the relatively new Kyoto Beer Lab. Other than that, I had a few other Japanese craft brews (mostly from Kyoto Brewing) as well as some great western imports.

Oh, so that's you on Untappd  I know it's someone from MA, but I forget who exactly.

I wouldn't normally pay $6 NZD for a single can, but today decided to hold my nose and stump up the money to try the famous Sculpin' Grapefruit IPA. No regrets.

Trying the Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen for the first time, which I've been looking forward to for ages. Really strong bacon flavour on this one, gotta have it with a meal for sure. I recommend but the smoked beer flavour might not be for everyone, I guess. Really like this though.

Really smokey rauchbiers are a weird thing for me. I can take a sip and say, "oh, that's very good, I like this" but then I can almost never finish one and get sick of it after a few sips. Definitely something to share. Or cook with.

Tried Vimy Red Ale last weekend. It was great! Sort of like Newcastle Brown, but smoother and a little thicker. And it’s locally brewed here in Ottawa by two former military servicemen, so that’s cool too.

If there are any Ontarians out there or to be more precise Torontonians. I havent been drinking for the past 2 years and came back. My thing was mainly beer and scotch. I noticed a slight change in the selection of beer at our stores. The middle range beer is gone. Its either cheap crap like Budweiser (price wise not cheap at all) or all these craft beers that cost almost twice as much as the cheap beer per can that are way too flavorful and IPA infested and you cant have 2-3 of those because they are heavy. So currently i'm a Guinness drinker because that taste is exactly where I left it off.

My question - did you notice a different trend it your hometown selection of beers compared to a few years back.
