A little late on the cooking topic, but here is something good for people who don't know how to cook:
LA CUISINE HUMAINE How to cook like a human being by Norman Spinrad

And today's entry for "ridiculously named/photo'ed black metal bands..."

http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Gru ... 3540334093

That name just makes me think of some 90's kid going "cool, dude!"

Gruweldood is a normal dutch word, so it isn't that ridiculous. I wouldn't translate it to "horror death" either. It's more like "horrible death".

That's a pretty ridiculous photo alright.

So Demon Hunter contacted them saying they could use their music for torture? They are a christian band, how typical.....

I don't see why that's typical.

Are Demon Hunter any good? I didn't find them on the archives.

I've updated the note and inverted the photo. :P

Not that it helped much regarding ridiculousness.

Well, maybe I used the word "typical" wrong.... But aren't christians supposed to be kind and forgiving? Supporting torture is not part of being kind and forgiving. But what am I talking about? The whole GOP is christian, and I don't see them adhering to christian virtues either. :-P

EDIT Good job Azmodes! That's my first non-direct edit!

While that may be true for part of the flock, consistency is not required to call yourself christian and the vatican has always shown how to be corrupt and scummy by example...

Who gives a fuck? These guys murder innocent people for a living; they deserve what they get. None of their victims got any mercy from them. None of the women and children they killed (including their own people, I might add) got any forgiveness from them. Why the fuck should I feel sorry for these assholes?

Wow, slow down there. Every human has some rights, you know. Not being tortured is one of them. They should be punished, yes. But not tortured.

One of the cornerstones of Christian morality is to abandon eye-for-an-eye punishment system. Therefore, condoning the torture of anyone, regardless of what monster they are, is hypocritical from a christian.

Then again, Christianity is also one of the biggest (if not the biggest) breeding grounds for hypocrisy, so whatever its doctrines say should be taken with an industrial sized sodium tablet. And just in case anyone is stupid enough to ask, I'm NOT saying that torture is okay. I just wanted to point that out.

So here's I theory about the pope's resignation that I just heard:

Around Christmas they gave the Vatican mole amnesty. Charity probably wasn't the reason for that.
A blog I read says there could still be unreleased documents missing that could become very problematic for Benedetto XVI.

I read that article a few minutes ago. My first reaction was "that's pretty metal." "Hearing the sound of Satan," wow. I can only imagine the terror!

On an unrelated note, I read this in the liner notes to Omen's Battle Cry today: "Prevent child abuse. If you are a child in crisis, please call Children of the Night at 1-800-551-1300." Anyone know the significance behind this?

Apparently Kraftwerk played a show on Saturday. I did not know this and found out out only today from possibly the most surprising source - The Economist. Here's what they wrote:

There was a huge fire at a church at the other side of town today... My first thoughts were that it's certainly been an interesting day for the Christian community in general.

On the subject of "Xians suck boo-hoo": I wish people would keep in mind that it's not just all about "Christianity", but Abrahamic religions in general.
No, I'm not sticking up for Christianity, I'm just trying to be all-inclusive in distrusting and disliking the rest equally. ;)

And don't even get me started on these so-called Pagans... Ooooh!

Faith, magic and the supernatural are an emotional crutch for people who can't accept their own cosmic insignificance. :panda:

I think they have been black-listed for not being metal enough but I could be wrong. As far as them being any good, I like 'em and I own all their releases. They are pretty much in the metalcore spectrum but they do have some heavier stuff as well. My favorite song of theirs would definitely be this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qi_SFEiFvME

raytownian, awesome post. Pretty disappointed with Demon Hunter there. Missed out on godspeed you black emperor AND dead can dance in a space of three days, a li'l bit annoyed. It's 40C for the third day in a row. Thus concludes the caspian update.

Depressive Illusions Records is a label with a very strong reputation for quality. Unfortunately, it's poor quality.

My favorite terrible picture is this black metal clown makeup: http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Ran ... 3540336448

It's a volunteer/charity organization that helps runaway children, kids who end up in prostitution, etc. Notably, it used to be endorsed by Ronnie James Dio, methinks, which might be the origin or a parallel of the connection here.

We were talking about Christianity in particular, but yes, all Abrahamic religions are abhorrent. Especially Islam.

From my own personal experience, I understand that they mostly keep their beliefs to themselves. No problem with that. I only have a problem with people who believe that I have the obligation to listen to their crap.

It's funny that all caspian does these days is insult random users. Marriage has turned him into a grumpy old man.

seems like it huh. It's not what I really intended to do upon coming back here, but I swear the FFA's gotten way dumber. I'm aware that my "contributions" aren't even all that worthwhile, but I can't stop myself! aaaargh

As much as it can sometimes be a bummer seeing caspian take his little potshots at people...he's not wrong in this case (and a few others I'm sure). Xxixixi has been on a serious mission to prove "Hey, I'm very mature for my age!" And it's just fucking teeeeeedious.

In unrelated "me desperately trying to prove I don't whinge alll the time" news, one cool thing about being a broke ass hobo is that you end up revisiting your old cds instead of just buying a shitload of new ones. I've got all these cool cds that I probs have never really listened too, and a lot of old favourites I've revisited. Feels good man. Currently on "Total Monster Armageddon" by Kaiju, and album I've owned for ages and never actually played...

You think I say that for attention? I say it because it's what I seriously think. I have no need to "couch in amusing terms" whatever critical comentary I might say. In fact, I was supporting what Ray said. I honestly don't see what the problem with that might be.

So, I can't give a serious (if caustic, I'll admit that much) opinion on an also serious subject without being called a tween try hard? Because that's what I'm getting from this.

I always have this weird guilt about listening to new stuff and my favorites over the huge amount of releases I bought but never took the time to really familiarize myself with. I perpetually make it a point to give spins to the stacks of once listened to black metal cds in my room, and by about the third Urgehal song I've switched over to Bad Religion.
