One of the best bedroom recordings of all time.

Good question & one that should make for some interesting listening.

Bodkin perhaps given they're from a time/scene that fits neatly with the heavy psych and related music that is in the Archives (Lucifer's Friend, Bang, Flower Travellin' Band, Night Sun, Sir Lord Baltimore, Scorpions' first two albums etc.). I like that Bodkin's album pretty much stomps all the way through, unlike finding say 1 or 2 heavy songs on a Uriah Heep or Led Zeppelin album.

I think I've gotta go with Van Halen. In my mind, Eddie Van Halen basically invented heavy metal lead guitar playing.

kruzenshtern i parahod. An Israeli band combining traditional Eastern European Jewish kleyzmer music with metal and some grindcore.
Check them out.

TOOL because when they play heavy, they do it better than just about anybody.

Alice Cooper. The Coop is probably my favourite artist, so it would be nice to have him on the archives. Plus I believe Raise Your Fist and Yell is metal enough for inclusion (though I know the submission team disagree). I imagine a distinction would be made between band and solo artist though, so it'd be the solo years that I'd vote for (as that's where Raise Your Fist... would be included).

Shitloads of the first couple Van Halen albums are basically metal in everything but attitude and songwriting - the riffs are fuckin molten. I'll say them.

Tool should be on the Archives anyway because Lateralus is a metal album. The fact that Faith No More are on the Archives but not Tool is frankly bizarre.

I'll second Alice Cooper. Hard rock and not metal but pretty influential on the genre still.

Also, as I've mentioned before, Blue Oyster Cult as they are a key inspiration for heavy metal in terms of vibe and ambience. Their influence is particularly evident with bands like Ghost and Saint Vitus. They should be included under the same 'special influence' category as Rush are.

Pretty sure that Slipknot might be OK for qualification nowadays.

Lateralus isn't a metal album. Not even close. Undertow absolutely is, though, and Tool should be on here just for that one. It's not dissimilar at all from, say, Soundgarden around that time. But...

...mmm... no. They were definitely on par with the best of their day, though.

How is this not a metal song?

And apart from the last few tracks, the album is full of riffage like that.

There's too much emphasis on guitarless/riffless softer sections and non-metal hard rock guitar playing, and that tips the balance away from metal. But if you think it's metal, go right ahead.

Listen to Ticks and Leeches and tell me it's not heavy as fuck. I used to crank the mid part late at night just to piss my neighbors off. "Suck me dry!!!"

Slipknot definitely should be on the archives. I don't know what series of mental gymnastic circle jerking led to them being excluded but the fact that a band like Alice in Chains can be on the archives but not them is just downright ridiculous.

I too am perplexed that Faith No More are somehow on the site but not Tool. I'll never understand that one.

And I'll never be convinced of Rush being a metal band either.

I actually reluctantly approved this thread from the new user because I thought "hey, at least this is just a light-hearted poll and not actual whining"

Lord, how could I have been so naive? Of course it was going to turn into the same pitiful, tiresome mewling we've been hearing for the last two fucking decades.

It took only about 10 replies, too. But I take the blame for not seeing this coming a mile away. My fault, really.
