Anyone knows of a shop in Riga that sells folk instruments.. I'm going there soon and would like to buy a kokle.

I found about this store called UPE (Vägnera 5), and I'll go there for sure, but does anyone have other pointers ? This UPE place is more of a tourist shop.

I actually don't know of any shops that would sell kokles, and a quick google search didn't yield any results either. It looks like kokles are mostly (only?) custom made on individual orders. While it may be the most popular Latvian folk instrument, they are actually still rather rare. But you can try asking in the Upe record store, maybe they can give you some pointers.

There were some pretty impressive ones in Upe, all handmade, with wooden keys. I bought an 11 string one.

While I was there, a girl walked in asking for the last Metallica album. There's another Upe store selling only music CDs and LPs, this one only sold souvenirs, music instruments and folk music CDs. She was redirected.
