I have always thought of myself as a happy intermedium between those two.

Don't know how many of you are familiar with this but here goes...

EXERCISE CAUTION. THE FOLLOWING MAY BE OFFENSIVE OR EVEN DISTURBING TO SOME.

Without further ado I give you... djent-step... (skip to 2:26 for the climax of the horror)

That's great! I really liked the first one.

News about Cameron's porn ban:
Quote:
As well as pornography, users may automatically be opted in to blocks on "violent material", "extremist related content", "anorexia and eating disorder websites" and "suicide related websites", "alcohol" and "smoking". But the list doesn't stop there. It even extends to blocking "web forums" and "esoteric material", whatever that is. "Web blocking circumvention tools" is also included, of course.

Not a tool of oppression at all.

Sweet! I haven't checked out a fraction of the 2013 releases I've been wanting to either, but the new Gorguts alone... New Triptykon on top of it would just about make my year (if it comes out in 2013 anyway).

That was so fucking inevitable, but it doesn't make the music any more horrifying. God, that was fucking awful.

For a moment I thought you were saying that Jesus was as bad as djent-step. I was confused.

Edit: I'm having a hard time restraining myself from responding to Detinos' idiocy in that Deiphago thread.

Whether he is a member of Deiphago or not, there's something off about a lot of 'bestial war metal' fans, so nothing new to see there really.

It sure is sad, in a pathetic way, to see someone pimping their band like that, if Detinos really is from Deiphago that is.

Not sure if this is the right place to post about this, but I didn't feel like making a whole thread in the Metal Discussion just to have my question answered right away. Anyway, on Coroner's page (http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Coroner/117) their status is "Active." They havn't released anything since 1996. That's 17 years. They did play a show in December of last year, but I don't think they have any new plans to record any new music or to go on tour. Would RULE if these guys did reunite officially, but I havn't heard anything about it. Maybe I'm missing something here though. Anyone know of anything?

Listening to Brocas Helm's Defenders of the Crown. It probably wins most the "Most energetic music made by old people" award. It also wins the "Most cluttered and confusing non-brain drill music" award by a mile too. I'm giving it two more listens to impress and otherwise it's getting a 50% metal-for-dads-and-accountants review.

I think you'll find that's pretty much the point of the term, it's not intended as a serious descriptor!

That Brocas Helm album rules.

I'm also looking forward to the Triptykon album, but with several servings of caution. When I first heard Monotheist I was utterly blown away by it, but the more I listened the more I realized that it was really pretty shallow stuff with just a few bits of brilliance peeking through. This opinion started to form right when the Triptykon debut was about to come out, so hearing that really hammered it home that Tom's hasn't quite honed songwriting chops to go along with this new goth/doom/whatever aesthetic that has other elements (the atmosphere, the wonderful production) all worked out quite well. IF, by some miracle, the new album really fulfills the sonic promises the previous two have been making but breaking, then we might have something really neat. Fingers crossed, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I don't entirely agree, but I can see where you're coming from. I thought that Monotheist was brilliant, but Triptykon's debut did seem to rely a bit too much on the atmosphere, and some of the songwriting was definitely lacking in places. It's funny though, because when that debut came out I absolutely loved it - even more than Monotheist, but it didn't have the same staying power. Skip forward to today and I still listen to Monotheist on a somewhat regular basis, but I haven't spun the Triptykon debut in god knows how long. I'm still really looking forward to a new album from them though, as despite it's faults the debut was a highly enjoyable listen for while and was a good (but perhaps not brilliant) album in its own right.

I liked Eparistera Daimones quite a bit. The first cut; A Thousand Lies had me hooked and led me to believe that I was in store for something fast so a slight initial disappointment but it grew on me quickly and the overall atmosphere and progression drew me in. The same can't be said for the EP which I found had very little staying power.

I felt the need to share this, it sounds like a mixture of Savatage, Judas Priest, with a pinch of Celtic Frost thrown in for good measure.

That wasn't bad at all. It's got a good 80s heavy metal vibe. I'm not too fond of the band name though (and the logo too perhaps) :/

Regarding Triptykon, I've never attempted to get into them. That was probably because I got thrown away by the 'gothic/doom' label when Tom created this band few years ago. I'll sample some tracks on youtube and if I get even a semblance of the Monotheist vibe then I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

That song didn't really make me think of Celtic Frost (assuming you people are talking about the vocals) but rather Running Wild. Pretty okay stuff.

I've been revisiting early Celtic Frost lately. I really dig the combination of punky, thrashy riffs combined with such dreamy, occult-like atmosphere. ''Jewel Throne'' and ''Dawn of Meggido'' are my favourite tunes at the moment.

The gothic/doom label is a weird one, for me. Triptykon sounds nothing like the usual gothic/doom stuff, but at the same time the label kind of fits. It's very similar in sound to Monotheist (Monotheist era Celtic Frost has the gothic/doom label as well for what it's worth), so definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of that sound.
