Hi everyone a newbie here with a question:
I was listening some video game music when i found a pretty nice sounding song from Final Fantasy X.
It's called Braska's Final Aeon. Now I was wondering, which metal category would this song fall in? And if possible, are there any bands out there that sound even remotely like this?

I'd classify it as some sort of hybrid between hard rock and heavy/groove metal.

I would also venture to say that the setting, soundtrack, and battle system were the only good things about Final Fantasy X.

I'd say it's groove metal.

if you like that, you should basically run to the shops and get white zombie's astro-creep 2000 album. here's a sample:

I remember that song from the beginning of FFX, yup if anything it is a groove/heavy variant. It never fit that game's atmosphere IMO.

True that, I always kind of cringed when it came on.

Sweat/spit metal, mostly because of the vocals... http://youtu.be/enJJeOqHbqE?t=2m17s

I think it sounds like nu metal, or maybe even 90's "alternative metal", even though that's an umbrella term.

And I think mainly because of the vocals, if the singer was a high-pitched screamer it would be another genre entirely.

When I first played this game in 2003, that was my thought, too. Like the kind of groove / nu MTV was playing a few years around 2000.

FFX is one of my favorite games with one of my favorite soundtracks ever but I'll agree that this song felt so out of place when it came on.

I don't know if this is helpful but I think video games should come out with a sub-genre of metal entirely of their own. But to still answer your question this sounds like either nu-metal or lighter version to death metal. I kind of see Nathan Explosion singing in a side band when I hear this. I hope I was of help and have a good day.
