Hello,

To the point: why are War of Ages not featured on metal archives?

I did use the search field and came up with a comment that it is cringeworthy but other than personal taste why are they not on the page? They play metalcore very à la As I Lay Dying or Killswitch Engage. Plenty of solos, tons of melodeath touches here and there. These dudes don't even use clean vocals unlike other metalcore bands that are featured!

Basically, I would like to know why they are not featured. I'm curious.

Thanks all and keep up the great work!

D.

There's no reason listed in the blacklist entry. Can you provide us with sufficient samples so we can give it a spin?

Looks like Witcher beat me to it.

A new album called Void will drop on September 13th, but for now, here's their entire discography from latest to oldest:

For completion's sake, here's War of Ages:

I am not a huge fan but for instance Arise and Conquer is just a metal album in my book. No question about it.

Anyway thanks for your time and I hope you consider them!

I have heard a couple War of Ages songs and to me they sounded a lot like Demon Hunter. The songs had metal moments but there was a lot of breakdowns and hardcore moments imo. It was probably blacklisted for that reason. I actually was gonna make a thread for this band as well but like I said, I found it to be too borderline/leaning a bit toward hardcore.

Also this band does have some songs with clean vocals btw.

I've listened to the entire discography and that one you're mentioning seems to be the only one close to metal.

On its own, I don't think it makes the cut, the main reason being it's more on the unacceptable side of metalcore (even if it has a considerable amount of riffs and metal-oriented songs).

I'm sightly leaning 'no'.

Btw, -in terms of metalness- this is pretty far away from As I Lay Dying or even Killswitch Engage.

album => Arise & Conquer

Okay guys thank you for at least considering them. I disagree as I obviously think they are metal but hey what can you do huh?

I do think they're close to AILD... actually Tim Lambesis produced most of their albums! I know, that shouldn't make a difference though. I do think they are a lot more metal than say Demon Hunter or downright crappy metalcore bands (sadly too many to mention). The guitar riffing is pretty melodeath and the drums are standard melodeath too when they're not doing breakdowns.

Anyhows I thought I would raise the issue. They lean on hardcore a bit cause of the shouted, almost Sick Of It All vocals but the predominant melodeath bits really do it for me. Furthermore, they act metal, sport metal shirts and tour with metal bands. Anyways, my two pence worth guys.

A final decision hasn’t been made, man.
More mods are welcome to share their opinion here.

I don't know if this will help at all but I remember asking about this band (or at least commenting on it in the old thread) back in 2012. Derigin replied that they were more -core than metal. That seems to be the last time this band was even brought up, so maybe one of the albums released after that point would possibly make the cut? As in anything released before Derigin's "nope" was judged back then as not being metal enough.

Mmmh I don't think so cause their most metal album is Arise and Conquer so if that one isn't metal enough for you folks then don't bother with the rest. They are definitely a metalcore band but I thought they would be metal enough for Metal Archives that's all :-)

Hey I'll still listen to them haha so no problem and congrats on the great job guys.

Fair enough, Gourock. -and thanks- Nice that at least we could both agree that the Arise & Conquer album was the one to re-evaluate.
I'll keep my judgment; even if it has it's moments, it's much heavier on the -core side.

I'm pretty confident other mods would find it unacceptable aswell. Let's keep the blacklist.

Will this band be reevaluated based on their upcoming album coming out on the 13th? I heard a song from this album on YouTube and it might be acceptable but idk.

Sorry, but this is clearly more on the hardcore side when it comes to MA's view on things. Blacklisting stays.
