I didn't find a post about this band... Hmm, could it be re-evualuated based on this release?

https://keygenchurch.bandcamp.com/album/-

I know that unreal guitars will not make the cut, but I think that the guitars are real on this one, distorted as fuck creating the illusion of synths, but maybe this is my impression because I'm not into this genre, I'm not going to compare, but recently I have found a band with the same mood so I gave it a shot hm..

Cheers :)

Without commenting on this band, synthetic guitars aren't a problem as long as the riffs are metal.

The blacklisting was made in 2018 with the following note: "Unlike MBR this doesn't seem predominantly metal, more piano/organ-driven." While the new release appears to have more guitars, I must admit I don't really hear metal riffs there. Just sounds like distorted synth guitars over more of the same piano/organ-driven music. Sorry, ᴎostalgiʞK, I think the blacklisting here will stay for now. Neat music, but not particularly metal music as we define it.

For the record, and just to add to PaganiusI's point, while our basic definition of what constitutes a metal riff relies on guitars - and for most metal bands that is more than sufficient for a definition - by its nature that definition also implies that any stringed instrument, including synthetic versions of said instrument, can be sufficient for that definition so long as the band is able to produce metal riffs from that instrument. There's some tricky grey area here, because not all stringed instruments even under the best hands are totally capable of achieving that, and arguably there will be some people - even among the staff here - who scoff at the idea of synthetic instruments being at all comparable to regular instruments, but from a truly hypothetical perspective that's perfectly fine for us. Granted, all this seems like academic conjecture, and perhaps even obsessively analytical, but after over 100,000 bands it has surprisingly become an important thing to consider for at least a handful of them. This band is riding that line, but I can see that one day, maybe, the artist could cross that line into acceptability. Keep an eye on this band and let us know of any changes.

Wow Deri thanks for your response my friend! (Thanks to Pag too for clearing it up from the start)

As you said, some people scoff at this idea, I remember some threads where the principal reason of rejection were "unreal" or synths guitars or something like this.

I'll keep an eye on this band, good thing having this attention to the matter. Cheers :)

New album released today called ░█░█░░█░█░█░, and it sounds more riff driven to me than the previous two.

https://keygenchurch.bandcamp.com/album/--2

There's still the common piano driven passages in each song, but now with healthier does of electronic metal thrown in IMO.

Hrm, whitelisted for a closer look.
Still pretty organ-driven, but the riffs are there.
