Why is this band blacklisted? I tried to search in past forum to see the reason but I found literally nothing.

Anyway

This band has a new album out.

Would consider re-evaluation based on this new release?

Okay, first of all, I am not a mod, but this band has been discussed many times before. Did you try using quotation marks in your search?

Second of all, I actually asked a mod personally about this
new album, and he said it was barely (if at all) metal. And this mod is a fan of the band too, so I'm very certain all the other mods would give a hard "no."

I am asking about this new album because it is a progressive metal album. This band hasnt been mathcore/metalcore in ages.

But if the mods think otherwise then its fine. I just asked because my search function didnt work.

If you use quotation marks, it works. I don't know if the new album has been evaluated (I personally haven't heard it yet), but all of the other albums have been discussed in depth, as you'll see in the link below.

I also considered asking submitting them for an appeal based on this new album but I didn't because I assumed they'd get rejected.

I've been a pretty big fan of Protest as far back as Kezia, so believe me when I say that I'm coming at this with no negative bias, but this still doesn't qualify as metal by MA's guidelines. The influence is there, no doubt, it always has been, but their Watchtower-isms have never been the primary influence and they still aren't on Palimpsest. I think boiling it down to "mathcore" also kinda misses the point since they're more generally "technical" than "math-y", but that's just me. The reason given for their exclusion well over a decade ago was something along the lines of "a general mishmash of several different styles, of which metal is not the dominant one", and I'd agree that still holds. Several mods weighed in and the closest judgment to acceptability was "borderline, leaning no", so for now they're gonna stay blacklisted.

Here's to hoping they can pull off an unambiguously metal release before Rody completely destroys his voice.

I actually do recall this band being talked about on the old forum.

I was also gonna weigh in with another comment someone else on this thread mentioned but I just get bitched the fuck out in this subforum whenever I make any sort of comments that other users are freely allowed to so I usually just don’t bother with this subforum at all – at least not on other people’s threads. But let’s just say; yes I do agree the later stuff isn’t mathcore. I ultimately think they’re BL’d for sort of the same reason that BTBAM is.

Can we just end the discussion? Everything has been said already.

And this goes to everyone, not just you, Guard ;)
