So, as you might tell from my rank, I am relatively new to the Encyclopedia. I've made a couple reviews and am working on a couple band submissions, and in the process of doing so and reading the rules for the first time, I was very glad to see that you reject all bands that are simply labeled as metal but are actually core trash/nu metal/whatever. However, I was surprised to see that you had blacklisted Rammstein, even going so far as to putting a description under industrial metal: "If it sounds like Rammstein or Nine Inch Nails, forget it." As a Rammstein fan, I was actually rather offended by this. I mean, it sounds like you are implying that Rammstein is one of those pussy Breaking Benjamin-like bands that edgy teens listen to. I, for one, think that Rammstein DOES qualify as metal. I like to think of Neue Deutsche Harte as "industrial groove metal", not like metalcore or alt-metal, like it seems like you may be doing. I am not saying I want to submit Rammstein as a band. If you have it set in stone that Neue Deutsche Harte is not an acceptable subgenre, then I will accept that. I just want to know why you would call them out specifically and thus imply that they're mallcore trash (like everything else you say doesn't fly). Because they're at the front of Neue Deutsche Harte (which many refer to as industrial metal), maybe? Nine Inch Nails was never an industrial metal band. I always classified them as more industrial rock/EBM. It makes total sense why their kind of music wouldn't be allowed. But Rammstein? Really? They are by all definitions an actual metal band. Yes, they have predictable song structures and generic chugging that's characteristic of bands like 5FDP (thank you for not allowing them on here) but they don't specifically try and appeal to edgy teens by dumbing stuff down and using edgy/emo lyric themes. They just have a style. Again, I'm not saying I want to submit them as a band (although I might ask you to remove the word "Rammstein" from your rules list), I just want to know why you'd call them out specifically.

Oh boy, where to start? First off, thinking your approach to its unavoidable conclusion, bands like ACDC or artists like Elvis are Core crap because they are not acceptable to our database? Keep in mind that we don't exclude mallcore because it's mallcore, but because they don't have metal riffs and while Rammstein (an NDH in general) is nothing like Mallcore/core, they do have one thing in comon: Most of the bands in both fields are usually not predominantly based in metal and that's exactly the case with Rammstein. While they do have some spare metal riffing spreadout throughout their discography, the majority is heavy Industrial Rock (with alt rock influences) at best. The band was chosen as an example of unacceptable "industrial metal" because they are well known all over the world and are a really good example for "industrial metal" that isn't actually metal.
It's nice of you to think that NDH is more like Industrial Groove metal than Mallcore/Alt Rock, but looking at the genre's origins, that's not quite the case. It evolved from actual Industrial Metal (Ministy and the likes) mixed with "groove metal" (which is often used to label heavier mallcore) and Alt Rock. As for entrance to the archives, the genre tends to lean more towards groovy alt-rock in a heavy/industrial setting, really. Anyway, Rammstein have been discussed billions of times. Get over it. We're just a website...

Okay, thanks for the reply. Admittedly, I overused the word “core” and now get that if a band is even slightly influenced by anything other than metal it should go out. Cheers.

Why is The Human Abstract blacklisted? Their album “Digital Veil” is a lot more metal than core, even pulling some elements from thrash and prog at times. Perhaps their older stuff was more core, but... you obviously have zero tolerance for anything that remotely resembles anything else than plain metal. So... when was the band first submitted? Because the latest album (2012) might change a few minds.

I’d imagine that Aethere is mainly blacklisted for their earlier core efforts, featuring some very djenty parts. Their new album has less breakdowns and is kind of a Technical/Melodic Deathcore style, implementing plenty of tremolo picking and blasts beats, with the track “Bloom” being a good example of this stylistic change.

What say you?

Not on the blacklist. Rejected because it was too amateurish/raw for a digital-only entry. Resubmit with CD proof, since the queue is for judging bands.

Ehm, there is already a duplicate post of Silenced Minstrel pending in the queue. This is the first of the duo, with links to four full albums on Youtube reported by me: https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Si ... 3540448849
This is not the only current double submission, the bands Hope Deffered and Eversoul are even already listed in the Archives, while the bm band Zorn was submitted twice with a two week pause between the entries.

Why is he asking about a band that's in the queue more than often enough... *Sigh* people are weird
Also those Cvlminis CDs aren't out yet...

Cvlminis release on CD was only today, so as the proof of the physical edition I wanted to publish band (but I see that the group really is already twice added).
It is not strangeness... One post in general without albums and other info.. another was without proof CD (as early submission)..

Well, yeah, but the first submission was from the label who released it on tape... Linked in the submission notes you can't see ;) Please check if the band you bring up is blacklisted before posting in this thread....and checking if the band's in the queue or on the site already is never a bad idea ;)

Thanks.

Blacklisted for being "Mostly punk-based grind and skits". If the new album proves to be more metal, you can bring them up again once it's released.

Album was released a month ago digitally (https://erniatheband.bandcamp.com/) and on CD through Absolute Contempt Records (https://absolutecontemptrecords.bandcam ... lbum/ernia). No skits on this one.

There's no Livpest on the blacklist anymore though....idk...the warning doesn't show for me, maybe it just says the queue is full?

CCV being blacklisted here is really shady. Mind Cemeteries was metal, and Thoughts from a Stone is metal. It baffles me, sometimes, the decisions made here.

I totally agree and was dumbfounded when I saw they were blacklisted. This is extremely metal and I can't fathom anything else to categorize it as. In my mind, I don't hear any "core" at all, just avant-garde, technical death metal.

Yeah I just found out about this band and I was amazed they weren't on the site and blacklisted. A search doesn't yield any clarification from mods on why they aren't considered metal, either.

May Blosse (Canada) please be up for re-evaluation? New album released today, and I would love to add it, if it can go through? I think Blosse was Blacklisted last year sometime, as I think in it being more "noise" or something"... but, this album sounds vastly different, or at least to me it does...

Thank you for anyone that would take a look at this for a minute :)

Hi guys, I'm new here too and I also have a bit of a problem. I want to add some Deathcore and Metalcore bands on here, since there is Death--and Metalcore on here. Now I'm wondering why I can't add any new bands to these genres, while there are bands that are the exact same genre. For example Within Destruction and Shadow of Intent; they are the exact same style of music and they both use breakdowns. Can someone tell me why I can't add any new Death--and Metalcore bands on MA if there are already?

Well, there is Metalcore and Deathcore that is more influenced by Metal (acceptable) and there is Core that is more influenced by Hardcore/punk or other non-metal stuff (unacceptable). With borderline genres like that (and Industrial Metal for example) it really depends on the individual band and the sound of the individual band. We are an archive for metal bands so we include Core bands that have a very dominant metal influence that outweighs the core influences while we exclude those who are more on the core/punk side of things.

A couple years ago I brought up Blue Cheer in this forum based on some of their later albums, but never received a response. Upon searching, I understand 2007's What Doesn't Kill You... wouldn't be considered acceptable according to AZ. But how about 1990's Dining with the Sharks? Here's the full album...

Hey,

my submission for Othuum was just rejected. I entered a link to Spotify as proof of release and did not realize that you do not accept streaming services. Didn't really get that from the rules. My bad. Before I re-submit, I would like to make sure that I am doing everything right this time. The album is available for purchase on Itunes, for instance. If I post a link to iTunes (where it is available for both streaming and full purchase), that will be sufficient? Also, I assume you do not buy the album then. Are the two songs on Youtube I provided enough for an assessment of the music? Or do you need the full album as download?

Thanks in advance!

1) stream-only is not accepted, but purchasable downloads (iTunes, Google Play, Bandcamp, Amazon....) and free downloads that don't require signing up (bandcamp is fine, Soundcloud isn't) are, just make sure there really is a download and not just a placeholder page for let's say Amazon Music or Apple Music...streming services. Downloads are usually indicated by a price tag ;)
2)No, we usually don't buy iTunes releases...that would be a fair bit too expensive in the long run, so we only get the samples they provide.
3) 2 songs might be sufficient, depending on how borderline it is and how many songs there are in total, but the more we can listen to the better. We don't need a full download to judge the music, it's just mandatory for a digital-only thing to fulfill the "valid release" rule.

Hey, can we add solo projects? Like, one-man bands? If we can, I know of about a zillion metal acts out on Bandcamp that deserve to be added to this archive.

Sure...as long as they are metal and have a valid release (by our standards of course), why not? Otherwise Burzum wouldn't be here, lol.

Alright, will re-submit with iTunes link and more evidence. Thanks a lot!

Hello. Several years ago, I attempted to submit the band Chaos Temple, from the United States, onto metal-archives. Each time I submitted, it was rejected, for reasons that I, in hindsight, perfectly understand. It's part of the learning process is all.

However, I have made no submissions for Chaos Temple since roughly 2011 or 2012. I have had two provable, tangible releases since then (both are EPs, links below). But I encountered something I did not expect: the band is blacklisted for submission.

The times I submitted earlier, they did not fit the metal-archives criteria to exact specifications (i.e. I did not fulfill my burden of proof for releases), and I have no complaints about that. But I do believe that Chaos Temple fits the guidelines now, as both recent EPs are not only digitally available, but I have pressed 100 CD copies for each release.

Therefore, in light of recent developments, I intend to submit the band again, but need an additional greenlight to do so. Any help is appreciated; thanks.

Was blacklisted for being Drone/Noise in 2015 and stays blacklisted for the same reason. There's no metal in this or at least not enough...

Interesting. I maintain that the two releases above have much greater metal elements to it than the previous three (which are not available online), but I also acknowledge that I have various influences in my music that are non-metal.

I respect your decision. But upon the next release, I will inquire again. Best wishes.
