Why is the "official" artwork for the album the alternate cover with the band instead of the kids shooting toy guns in the graveyard?

Seems to be just oversight. It's not been purposely censored.

Just to add to what Kjetter said, this is likely just a consequence of the way albums used to work.

Prior to including other versions, there was only a single version of an album permitted on a band's page. This version technically was supposed to be the original version, but it wasn't unusual for people to edit it to represent the most popular version or the version they knew best. When other versions were introduced, these versions by default became the parent versions. They remain that way unless someone goes in and manually changes which version is the parent. Also, by default, other versions made of a parent version retain the properties of the parent (eg. song titles, album art, recording info, etc.) unless manually changed.

Taken together, I suspect that a long time ago - before other versions were launched as a feature - someone edited the "Taken by Force" album to have the alternative cover art. Once we had other versions, some people might have added versions without changing the cover art, assuming that the cover art of the parent was correct for their child version, too. Please feel free to go ahead and submit a report about this, or to make the changes yourself. This situation was a product of happenstance, not malicious or purposeful intent.
