If there's such a thread already, please let me know.

There are a few songs which have been covered abundantly by Metal bands, but the attribution of the 'original' band who recorded them is not consistent.

A blatant case would be I Surrender, written by Russ Ballard, and popularized in 1981 by Rainbow.

As far as I know, Ballard never recorded / released the song. Head East is the first band that seems to have recorded it, in 1980 (https://www.discogs.com/fr/release/2242 ... -East-US-1).

On the site, the Rainbow versions (1981 onward, 36 occurences on albums, compilations, live albums), are called Russ Ballard covers, and 10 versions by other bands are called Rainbow covers, whereas only two more versions are called Head East covers.

Shouldn't they all be Head East covers ? Or at least the Rainbow ones be Head East covers ?
