Just throwing this out there, but does anyone think the re-releases of Ozzy Osbourne's first two albums should count as separate releases from the originals, due to the fact that the bass, drums, and keyboards are re-recorded? They definitely sound different and even though the songs are the same, both the band lineups and the actual music on the albums are different which seems like it would warrant separate entries. This would also make it easier to write reviews since you could separate which reviews are for the originals and which are for the new releases.

Thoughts?

If we did this for every re-recorded/remixed/remastered album that was re-released, it'd be quite the circus.

"No, Lair...but that's a pretty damn good name too!".

They did it with one of the Nadja rerecordings. It seems to be case by case.

Actually, re-recorded albums are ok. There aren't many of those around. Remixed sometimes are ok too, but remastered albums are completely forbidden.

Then the reissue of this release: http://www.metal-archives.com/release.php?id=8436
should definitively have it's own page. Different name, different cover, different mix and with the complete track listing...

I believe there should be different treatment for re-recorded albums that are marketed as a new release (First Strike Till Deadly, Stormblast 2005) and rerecordings intended to mask or eliminate imperfections, override copyrights or censorship, etc. Otherwise every time a live album gets a studio overdub, we'll have to accept it as a new entry.

Remixes are also completely useless IMO, unless we're talking about those techno DJs' remixes that distort the music beyond recognition.

How about boxset re-releases of some albums, like these:

http://www.metal-archives.com/release.php?id=135996
http://www.metal-archives.com/release.php?id=88464

Half of these kind of re-releases are added seperate, while the others are added to the additional notes of the original albums. The info on both these boxsets are added to their own additional notes anyway...

I agree with MMisantropo. If the album is marketed as a new one and re-recorded, it's ok to add it.

I'm also sympathetic to allow remixed or remastered albums with new name, artwork and so on, but this is probably more controversial.
