I understand that there is a bit of hostility towards rec. threads in the Metal Discussion forum, but they are actually pretty useful, and I had this little idea. What could happen is they could become against the rules, but there would be a stickied thread with a list of rec. threads people can go to and use. People could post there with links and what the link takes you to.

Just something I thought of that might solve some problems.

This has been suggested before on numerous occasions. I personally think it is a good idea and have seen it work on another board.

I haven't seen any hostility towards rec. threads... people answered mine very politely and gave me excellent suggestions.

I do think a unified rec. thread, or at least for different genres, would be a good idea however. I have seen it work in other places.

There is already a broad list of recommendations in the Official Newbie Introduction Thread in the general discussion. It is very basic however, and could certainly use some updating, but it's there.

There are some people who will respectfully post on them, but there are also some, who I agree with, who see too many a day. Each week almost, we see the same one's over and over again. They are normally by new posters such as yourself, no offense. I think if people won't use the search feature, we could bring the search feature to them, in a way.

I don't think it would be a bad idea (atleast for the more basic requests), but it probably wont suffice people who ask for obscure "black pagan tolkienesque suicidal 1995 metal with a similar style to so-and-so band" recommendations.

I completely agree with you there, but I just think the "Old School Death Metal Rec. Thread"s and the "Extreme 80s Death Metal"s are just too frequent.

What about a small script that takes you to the search page every time you try to write a title with "recommend"?
