I think the third example is used on MA.

is this just for band names?

or are we talking album titles as well?

if so, I prefer the 7th example listed there, but I know it probably isnt the most popular one

These two examples are most common for "properly" capitalizing titles:

The Vitamins Are in My Fresh Brussels Sprouts
capitalization of all words, except for internal articles, prepositions and conjunctions
The Vitamins are in My Fresh Brussels Sprouts
capitalization of all words, except for internal articles, prepositions, conjunctions and forms of to be

It's for album and song titles as well, but I don't go as far as to verify every single one. On band names I guarantee 99% follow the standard.

Anyway, this is what the guidelines say:
Quote:
And please don't enter the names/titles all in caps, or all in lowercase (unless the song was originally spelled that way)!
Tip: band names and song/album titles generally have the first letter of each word capitalized (except for acronyms obviously), except for small words like "the" and "of" (unless of course they start the title). So it's "Cradle of Filth", "Council of the Fallen", not "Cradle Of Filth" or "Council Of The Fallen".

It's not explicit whether small pronouns and verbs count as "small words" (3rd vs. 5th example of the wikipedia page). On my interpretation, they don't. Also, I typically also capitalize the first and last words, prepositions that are part of phrasal verbs, and most conjunctions other than "and"/"or", specially when they connect whole sentences instead of two words (as in "Trick or Treat", "Fire and Water").

You should not follow that example. Nouns should always be capitalized here!

We also need to take into account that different languages follow different rules.

OK - I have seen a few here and there, so if I notice them again I will point them out

Should such spelling also be applied for German?

When I have to see spellings like there
http://www.metal-archives.com/release.php?id=25966
I am close to vomiting.

Reaper43 and myself were discussing this a while ago. It would be great if version 2 had an "auto-cap" system, so words like "and" are automatically de-capped, while others are automatically capitalised. This would also help those annoying as hell ALL CAPITAL LETTERS submissions.

It certainly shouldn't look like that. It certainly doesn't follow the norm, as described here http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Großschreibung

I think we can use that one for German titles.

That's a great thing to have but programming it would be a bitch and a half. The amount of checking and testing for each song title, album title and band title would be huge, not to mention what if a band wants all their songs to be capitalized? Or wants each word to begin with an uppercase (or lowercase) letter?

Yes when i spoke of that auto-cap or de-cap idea I meant in relation to instrumentation. Song titles would be extremely hard to program, however instruments could be more cut and dry. As in either capitalized or not, depending on the preference of Morri and Hellblazer.

I think the most logical thing to do would be to write it as it's on the album cover/official site ...

I've already suggested that one or two years ago. Maybe in v2?
