There really really should be one. If this site wants to be serious about metal, the lyrics of major bands at least should really be correct.

Now take this example:

Crucifier, spitting fire
See your middle empty prayers
This empire growing higher
To this spider I swear
Shot on service like a raiser
Swimming in a sea of rage
Thin decades, masquerades
All the worth must stage

Ahem... middle empty prayers? Shot on service like a raiser? Thin decades? WTF???

And this comes from the lyrics for Symphony X's The Serpent's Kiss, which isn't exactly something obscure. I wanted to check them out on the metal archives since I thought this was a serious site, but I found the same nonsense here that I found on a lot of other sites. I actually had to use some correct lyrics in the search to find the right thing:

Crucifier - spitting fire
say your little empty prayers
This empire - growing higher
To this spite I swear

Sharp tongue severs - like a razor
swimming in a sea of rage
Vindicators - masqueraders
all the world's my stage

Makes a bit more sense now, huh? And yes, I've actually listened to the song more than a dozen times, and I can tell you the lyrics currently on metal archives are completely worthless.

I found the correct version here, btw:

I guess now you can fix these at least, but how many more bad lyrics are there on M.A.? So seriously, consider having some sort of review system for the lyrics; don't just grab every piece of junk off the net and post it here. I like this site.

Tell that to the users who submit such nonsense. We have enough to do with reports and band submissions and I canot imagine something like lyrics queue in the future. How should we validate them?? Not all lyrics are available on the net nor do we own every Cd, LP, or tape in existence.

I hope you are aware that the lyrics are added usually by users and not by moderators and owners???

We have the report function, which everybody can use to report mistakes in lyrics. Pleae, use it in the future. The lyrics are secondary info anyway, they are a nice add -on, but not a part of the main encyclopedical info about the band. That does not mean that they should contain mistakes, though.

Veterans have the privileges to edit lyrics, right? Because that'd probably be the only thing I'd edit on a large scale when I reach 500 points.

Yes veterans can edit lyrics.

Hooray. I'll form a "lyrics deathsquad" once the time is right. There are so many fucked-up lyrics that I won't bother reporting each one.

Like I said, I realize that it would be a mammoth of a task to try and make sure that *ALL* lyrics are correct. But there are a lot of obviously wrong lyrics even for major bands. Correcting 10% of the lyrics would mean 90% of the lyrics read would be correct. Maybe even up to 1% - 99%.

Now, since I'm really not interested in at least 99.99% of the bands on this site - how many tens of thousands were there again? - I don't care about their lyrics, but I would like to see the correct lyrics for, say, Symphony X songs. And what I'm saying is that a lot of other users probably feel the same - they would like to be able to find the lyrics to a few bands they mostly listen to, when a new album from those bands comes out and they get it.

So what if there were a lyrics subscription system and those users could get the lyrics posted for their favourite bands sent to them via e-mail or such? Maybe people would be a lot quicker to report obvious bull like that in Paradise Lost's lyrics, and *maybe*, just maybe they would even give you the correct lyrics which veterans could simply validate and replace the old lyrics with. Heck, you don't even need the song in some cases and a simple sanity check is enough to tell.

That subscription thing probably wouldn't be worth the trouble of implementing it, it would be probably vastly underused and it doesn't deal with already present mistakes.

It's more practical to fix errors as they are spotted. You say you've seen a lot of them, and I believe you; but see, they'd be all gone by now had you reported them.
Perhaps there could be some place to report an album whose lyrics look fishy. Even if the person doesn't have the ways to correct himself, he could ask for help to someone who might own the album.
