My brain cannot fathom the fact that Senjutsu already has 24 reviews and it hasn't even been out for a month. I get that it's a new Maiden record and everybody wants to share their thoughts on it, but it took their last album (The Book of Souls) 6 years to get the amount of reviews Senjutsu got in less than a month!

I think this one had more varying or controversial opinions than BOS.

Thanks for the Gasoline Guns review, Lane. It put a smile on my face!

(Also gobsmacked by sheer volume of Senjutsu write-ups, as well as their scoring range...man, somebody gave it a 10%?!)

I think it's their best in years, no-how!

Thank you CHAIR.

So does your well-oiled verbal whimsicalities on GG (not Allin) review. :)

Props to RapeTheDead for their exploration of Nile's discography. I've always found the band rather spotty myself so it's cool to see such a nuanced take on their peaks and valleys.

ayyyyyy

I did think it was mildly amusing that someone also put up a discography binge at the exact same time I did.

Was going through Bayern's review for Sentenced's Down - it's a good one, but I couldn't help but notice one comical mistake.

Truly a first rate review for this great piece of music. It's the right kind of descriptive and just talks frankly about everything, never seeming overly effusive or clinical.

I'm bummed that Alina Zia never posted another review after dropping that bomb of a Jute Gyte one.
https://www.metal-archives.com/reviews/ ... ce/782675/
It would've been fun to see what obscure words she could've dug up out of mothballs for subsequent musical analyses.

Quite an entrance, but never followed up.

I think she short-circuited while submitting that one.

Thanks for that! Those other two should sate me for awhile. Goddamn the opening paragraph of that Impermanence review gave me a rush...orgasmic even.

Empyreal, love the Handful of Rain review!! You nailed it! That's an album that gets a lot of hate from the "Savatage is Jon Oliva only...Zak sucks" crowd. One of my favorite Savatage albums.

They had good stuff in both eras. Thanks. I've really known this band for ages so these reviews have been easier than I thought. Next I will be trying 'Streets' again so we'll see how that goes...

Luna's 0% review on KK's Priest...

Well, it's not a good record for that matter, but it's not the worst thing I've heard either. It's more of a 45-50% for me.

Very solid and truthful review of the KK's Priest album there, I think.

That album has no redeeming qualities in the slightest. Absolute garbage. The review was spot on!

To Robotiq:
I loved reading the Deceased reviews you did a while ago. Is there any reason you didn't do Ghostly White though? I think that's my favourite album of theirs and I would love it if you did a review of it eventually. Cheers

Thanks!
I think the reason I stopped was because Deceased are quite a 'heavy' band in terms of the amount of detail they put into their music. This means they require quite a lot of concerted listening to do them justice (more than most bands). After 11 Deceased records I just needed to listen to someone else. But sure, I will get back to them (since you have asked). I notice that they have done another two covers compilations recently too.

I think about revisiting my reviews regarding 1000 Funerals. I am listening to the music currently and I am not bothered by the stuff as I was all those years ago. While it is still no masterpiece, a slightly better review should be possible.

Deceased's records do have insane amounts of detail, and I can see why reviewing them would take forever, I'm still finding things about Ghostly White.

I have yet to listen to Narcotic Wasteland. I like the new review, but I think the writer makes it seem as if Dallas Toler-Wade had already left Nile when the first album was released, which is incorrect.

With the last review of Burnt Offerings and his comment about how much better Matt Barlow is as a singer it got me thinking.... Am I the only one who likes Gene Adam's voice more? His chaotic and raspy tone makes him much more interesting that Barlow to me

I liked Gene Adam and John Greely a lot more. But that says way more about how I disliked Barlow's timbre anyway.
When I heard him sing 'Melancholy Holy Martyr' I pretty much lost the little interest I still had up until that point.
It's all personal preference anyway. I'm sure Barlow was technically a 'better' singer than Adam but I don't really care.

we hope you die adding that little disclaimer on the percentages at the end of Exsul made me giggle because relatable. Also, you have great taste m8. I plan on getting one for that and Conjureth out soon.

I will just say that if you're going to bomb a 60% for something like Hypocrisy's Final Chapter, you'd better come up with some good arguments for doing so. Meanwhile this thing provides only broken English, a bunch of sweeping statements and a lot of nonsense ("Somewhere death vocals have returned"? Get the hell out of here). Calling this text subpar would be generous.

There are indeed some sub-par reviews floating around. If you think the review is suitable for deletion, you can also post it in this thread for review by moderators:

I mentioned Hames_Jetfield some time ago in the Reviewers to avoid thread, and he seems to have made no improvements since then. I'm pretty sure his syntax is a result of literal/automatic translation (his originals are in Polish), and apparently he can't conceive the idea of writing a review about an album without covering the rest of that band's discography as well. Two things that aren't that encouraging...

Agree with Colin's take on "Terrible Certainty", that might be my 'go to' Kreator album even if it isn't as pure/classic as its predecessor.

Not sure I agree with this. Discography runs are more challenging than picking off individual records from around the site. I wish more people would include demos in their discog reviews though, rather than considering demos an irrelevance.

 I can't help but think that it's a bit of an underrated / overlooked album - seems like most Kreator fans prefer Pleasure to Kill or Coma of Souls. I'm in a thrash metal mood now, so you can expect more thrash metal reviews of me in the time ahead...some which will include some less-talked-about albums, too.

That's true and also that's what I implied (probably not expressing myself in the best way): being more challenging means also that not everybody can pull it off, and sooner or later you come across somebody writing a mediocre review for an album he probably doesn't even want to review, but has to because he now started the series, and it shows through the reading. And if we're talking about a rather subpar writer, that becomes really not encouraging (at least in my eyes). Hope I've put it out more clearly now.

Totally agree on the demos matter though. I'm also guilty of overlooking them and it's nice to see somebody giving them some praise.
